Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
It really does hurt knowing that the overpromising and under delivering of this project will stymie further development of a regional rail system. We need a comprehensive plan, not the piecemeal approach that isn't working for us now. I only hope once this line opens, it is successful and reinvigor...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
2.7 billion was always an estimate, I think. 2.86 is disappointing, but I'm not concerned about finding that remaining funding. It's still among the cheaper LRT projects in the country, and it's still great bang for your buck. If this train had been built through a cut-and-cover tunnel Uptown and en...

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn
Losing the tricolor makes this look so bland, but I'm just happy they didn't go asymmetrical.
Everyone I spoke with wanted the tricolor version. I'm certainly less proud of the blank blue-on-blue design than I would be of the tricolor, but whatever. This isn't bad enough to get upset about.

Near West Bush Lake Road and 494, a vacant site along W. 78th St has a proposed 200 unit plus day care. https://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2023/12/15/bloomington-enclave-life-time-apartments-daycare.html In the sliver of Bloomington north of 494. I'm much more likely to make fun of Cybertruck not because it's objectively worse than other trucks, but because it looks like 14-year-old boy's idea of a cool car

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn
I can appreciate that Starflake isn't the perfect design, but it really should've moved on over that North Star Flag ripoff. I can't even begin to understand how the fifth-place finished was even a finalist. It's unbelievably ugly. I hope they pick the design with the swallowtail on the hoist side. ...

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
aBRT wouldn't need federal funding because it would be 1/5 the cost.
This should be aBRT. The East Side deserves transit investment; let's build three aBRT lines to east St. Paul for the price of one Purple Line.

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn
The number of people (including lawmakers!) who just want the new flag to be the loon seal on a blue background is shocking and disappointing.
So, so many people have no sense for design.

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
With the continued dwindling utility of this project, continued political unwillingness to piss locals off with both Riverview & Bonttineau and the cost overruns of SW I'm kinda at the point where they should just cancel any future rail projects here and just invest every penny possible into aB...

And to add a positive comment: the Kellogg alignment is a good idea, even if I question how it will make transfers with the Green Line more difficult. Anyone know if the new Kellogg Bridge to the east side is being built to accommodate LRT or streetcar? I like how this new alignment opens the possib...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
If it's not a fully dedicated LRT, I would rather this just be a bus. Let's not waste a billion dollars and immense amounts of political capital on a streetcar please. This project is also the evidence we need to prove that transit planning in the Twin Cities is woefully broken. The fact that the MO...

Re: University of Minnesota - News & General Topics
Personal pipe dream but I would love it if the new building, or nearby development, included enough office sq ft so that they could tear down the ugly University Office Plaza building on the north side of University and expand the park on the south side of the stadium all the way 23rd. They are pla...

Clarification: It's not just the Mix, it's the the Minnesota Innovation Exchange — aka "The MIX"! Seems like kind of a major project that kind of snuck past us here? According to the website there are three phrases that would redevelop three entire blocks in the heart of Stadium Village. ...

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn
Something interesting that came up in the committee's meeting about the seal was that they're considering different languages for the motto, L'Etoile du Nord, which is currently in French. I bet they'll keep it in French, or maybe make it English ("The Star of the North,") but they discuss...

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)
Huh, ridership shouldn't be a primary metric of a transit agency? The Red Line cost $115 million to build in 2013 dollars and now has fewer than 350 riders per day. There's got to be some connections to spending millions of dollars and the number of people who will ride the service. Maybe this regi...

Re: Red Line (Cedar Avenue BRT)
The Red Line had the second most ridership of any MVTA route in 2021. Oh, ok, then MVTA shouldn't exist. Agreed, but for other reasons. Ridership is not the primary metric for a transit agency. The Twin Cities have a sprawling metro that needs coverage. There are still transit dependent people, and...
