Re: Cray Plaza (née Galtier Plaza)
I hope those rumors are true. It's so eerily quiet in Cray Plaza now (Galtier Plaza?). Even so, sad to see Cray go.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
I'd use the 54 extension all the time. I hope it's not delayed again.

Re: St. Paul Restaurant News
@Vagueperson, where did you hear this news? Is there a developer that will redevelop the whole Station 4 block at once?

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
This would take a lot more thought, but yes, a full restructure of routes north and northeast of downtown is desperately needed. The lines on the map are far from intuitive, and there are vast swatches that aren't covered by any practical service. I live downtown St Paul, so I have an easier time th...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
Ooo I like silver; never thought of that! I think that's quite appropriate since this line will terminate in White Bear Lake. But I agree that a "fancy bus" doesn't deserve a color. a) Implement aBRT per Metro Transit's plan b) Initiate all-day express bus service on 265 (current frequenci...

I like it. Very intriguing and exciting. Payne Ave has a lot of progressive momentum.

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
Shit. As someone who lives in the project area, I was hoping the planners would eventually figure out that a "fancy" bus is not going to be worth it. It won't attract new riders or increase the current ridership, and access isn't really improved since it's just a parallel to route 64 (whic...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
Why can't parking on only one option of the street be an option? It seems all the concepts I've seen show parking on both sides of the street, or none at all.

Re: Saint Paul Union Depot
I was there and it was a lot of fun, even though I don't know that much about trains to be honest. Nice to walk a few blocks from home to see things like this. From the looks of the crowd, maybe I need to start thinking about having a kid to warrant my interest in these train-centric events in the f...

Re: Former Macy's Site - Downtown St. Paul
Looney Bin Brewery is tentatively moving into the space fronting Cedar, but they have also applied for a STAR grant/loan for the first floor retail space in the former Pioneer Press building (being converted to residential). Seems like they haven't quite decided where they're going to end up quite y...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
Yes, @Tiller. I agree with you 100%. I"m really heartened that this has actually pushed through as an option. I know I would a WBA LRT much more than a rail ROW route. I'd love to see it travel up E 7th and continue north on WBA, stop somewhere at the mall, and end in downtown WBL.

Re: St. Paul Restaurant News
The inside is coming along very nicely. They recently paved the alley/patio area as well. No word on an opening date yet though as far as I've heard.

Re: Possible demolition of West Publishing / old jail
I believe they are demolishing the buildings more from the inside out, and building the retaining wall along the bluff while the buildings come down. I don't think we'll see exterior major demolition until demolition is alms complete.

Yes, Gem Lake extends to 694 as well. I grew up in "North Maplewood" and its a completely different place than "South Maplewood," or the "southern leg."

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
I don't dislike this routing, but to be fair, there's already a stop at Regions (Robert St Station). A stop on the north or east of the hospital wouldn't serve the hospital; there's no access on those sides.

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
I guess one of my bigger points is that running LRT on most of the narrow Lowertown streets around SPUD doesn't seem feasible. Broadway in particular is already constrained, and the ROW is blocked off by farmers' trucks during the Farmer's Market. And foot traffic from CHS Field would make it danger...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
I'd much prefer Rush Line LRT to have its terminus on the SPUD concourse (alongside a Gold Line BRT station). Nothing else will activate the Depot quite like having transit riders INSIDE the Depot. Having eastbound lines terminate on the concourse (Rush, Red Rock, Gold Line, etc) and westbound lines...
