Re: MSP Airport
Delta would have to give up the Haneda slot if they stopped flying it. They can't just switch it to another US origin. This points to it being likely to continue.

Re: Art and Architecture Building Redevelopment - 3338 University Ave SE - 17 Stories / 195'
The revision of the PPA bylaws a couple of years ago replaced the former standing committees with defined membership with the city-recommended practice that any resident, business owner, can attend and vote in a committee. Typically the Land Use committee does not get 102 people, normally 10-20. But...

Large meeting of the PPA land use committee voted something like 67-35 to approve the MOU with Vermillion, and therefore add the neighborhood's support to the project when it goes to Planning Commission. You'd never have predicted this result if you read the local neighborhood email list.

There was a fire engine call out to the demolition site this morning. From a distance it looked like lots of smoke rising from it. But the fire engine left quickly, and I think that what happened was someone called the fire trucks to respond to a cloud of dust rising from the demolition.

Re: Art and Architecture Building Redevelopment - 3338 University Ave SE - 17 Stories / 195'
I guess I put the analogy poorly. I think there is a bit of a status quo bias in the idea circulating that one shouldn't detract from the view of the tower, or take something away from it by being taller. If the high point there existed without the tower, and someone proposed a tower on the natural ...

Re: The Link at Prospect Park - 2929 University Ave SE
I wouldn't want to teach a kid to do it, but given that you can hear the train squeaking around the corner, and it's coming very slowly at that point, if you are able bodied enough to consider jumping down onto the tracks to save 50 metres of walking, you'll probably be fine. No need for a fence. Th...

Re: Art and Architecture Building Redevelopment - 3338 University Ave SE - 17 Stories / 195'
It's interesting the status quo bias at work here. If There was no water tower, and someone came along and proposed building a big structure like it in the middle of the park, there would be outrage.

Re: Art and Architecture Building Redevelopment - 3338 University Ave SE - 17 Stories / 195'
Coming west along University tonight I was interested to note that you basically don't see the tower until you're nearly perpendicular to it, because the existing Art and Architecture building blocks it from view if you're at street level. And yes, the renderings do show that it would barely impact ...

Re: Art and Architecture Building Redevelopment - 3338 University Ave SE - 17 Stories / 195'
Since Prospect Park neighborhood discussions happen on a wide-circulation, but basically closed, email list rather than NextDoor or E-Democracy, I will just report that some people are concerned that the 17 story tower will detract from the visual prominence of the witches hat tower. Other people ar...

Re: Art and Architecture Building Redevelopment - 3338 University Ave SE - 17 Stories / 195'
I agree that some people will be opposed to a building that tall, but there’s an influential faction in the neighborhood that wanted to see something dramatically different here, a signature development to welcome people to Minneapolis. And really the contrast with St Paul port authority low rise cr...

2510 Riverside Avenue Apartments - 80 units / 6 stories

We're at the stage of this development where the Heritage Preservation Commission would prefer a heritage parking lot to an actual building. http://www.mndaily.com/article/2017/10/heritage-preservation-commission-denies-apartment-pitched-for-marcy-holmes The interesting thing is that the staff repor...

It's Minnesota so Lake Lakeson Anderslake is more likely.I expect putting a large list up for vote will result in Lake McLake Lakieface.
If voting is opened to Minnesotans outside Minneapolis then Lake Murderapolis has a high chance.

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)
For better or worse one of the appeals of the sales tax route is that it is collected in very small increments that are barely noticeable, rather than arriving in a big envelope with colored paper and a bill for a large sum. Even if that large sum is then spread across monthly mortgage payments, or ...

Re: 38th Street Corridor & 38th St Station Development
Ideally the courtyard parking is pretty visible to the residents around the courtyard, so there are eyes on the place even if not from the street, but from the buildings. Lighting etc makes a big difference, as well as multiple ways in and out. Benefits to the public realm of not having big parking ...
