Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

Thanks for the detailed analysis, mulad. I'm still in "ooh, look, a train!" mode when I see one, so I haven't really paying attention to how they operate. Part the goal of this testing phase has to be optimizing the light cycles to make sure trains run smoothly, right? I can't imagine anyt...

Re: Loveable Ugly Stuff

In a similar vein, I've always liked the Victory Ramp on the corner of 4th and Wabasha in St Paul -- it's even got 4 or 5 businesses at street level which helps immeasurably. But even without the businesses, it's kind of got a cool street presence. I like it.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

It's also thrilling to see so much money being spent on grade separation near the Golden Triangle... That's something that doesn't seem to get enough press. Seems like 3/4 of the stations on the line have an 800' viaduct before or after them, and a "future park and ride" providing a coupl...

This is the most central part of the central business district. If the canyon effect is appropriate anywhere, it's here. Keep building, I say.

I really like the base on this project. Doesn't try to do too much, but it is well-proportioned, clean, and very open at the street level. Really nice addition.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

The Kenilworth people almost certainly contribute generously to various politicians. That's the missing information.

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

I would imagine we saw the same test. I was standing at the corner of 6th and Cedar when it came by. I was too surprised to notice anything to do with the signals. Very exciting!

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

The Metropolitan Council is considering two options for the SWLRT, and they both include running the line right through the Kenilworth Corridor bike trail between Lake of the Isles and Cedar Lake. It is a pristine, wooded area and many people in the area, including the city of Minneapolis, oppose t...

Every time I go through skyway security, there's at least 200 people in line. And I think the TSA puts their trainee/least experienced people there, it's always complete chaos. :)

Re: Saint Paul Streetcars

I was assuming that we'd want to interline an Airport LRT with the Green LIne through DT St Paul. This would make it more accessible to the core and the majority of downtown residents.

The connection you describe would definitely be easier and less expensive.

Re: Saint Paul Streetcars

The old Ford plant line would be easy to build for 80% of its length, but it seems like it would be problematic/expensive to get it from Raymond Ave into downtown St Paul.

Re: The Vintage (Selby and Snelling)

I'm so glad to see Getten Credit go away, and can't wait for the gas station to bite the dust. This development will be a boon to the area. The city really should create a master plan for Snelling between University and Selby. Maybe one exists, I don't know. Either way, there are a lot of very under...

1.Sync the lights up counter commute so neighborhoods have an easy time going to the suburbs in the morning and coming back in the evening. Meanwhile suburbanites can stop for nearly every light on Lexington, Snelling and Ayd Mill. 2.Dedicate an officer to rotating through suburban commute routes f...

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha LRT)

Anecdotally, the 53 (which I ride daily) is often full to standing-room only capacity. That's probably a more-popular route for South Minneapolis-St Paul than going all the way in to Minneapolis and riding the 94.

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)

I think it will be years or decades before we'll know for sure whether the Green line is a success or not. And even then, we'll argue over the extent to which LRT is responsible for successes or failures in the neighborhood. I happen to look at University Ave and see a completely different picture f...

^^^ That's a really, really nice graphic.

I mean, the idea of deep-boring 94 and re-connecting the grid is good, but the graphic itself is much more clear/informative/better than the ones that accompany most real projects. Props.

Re: The Penfield - (101 10th Street East)

Have you seen it in person? Because in person it is....even uglier than these pictures.

Hopefully with the streetscaping and additional activity around the site, it will stick out less. But I totally agree that this building is a stinker.

Despite the naysayers, I predict this will be a beautiful structure and iconic landmark of the city. Can't wait fo construction to begin! I think I agree. The key is always in the execution of the concept, but the renderings we've seen so far show a unique and beautiful structure. I like it better ...

I can't stop laughing at that website. How did the neighbors approve of a building tall enough to offer views of both London and New Orleans.
