Alatus Development - 411-417 Lexington Pkwy (MNDOT Snowpile site)

Fun to start a new topic: Alatus is apparently working on a 250+ market rate unit development for the vacant lot currently used as a State Fair lot for a week in the summer, and a snow removal site in the winter that floods the sidewalk with disgusting snowmelt every April/May. There will be a publi...

Re: Ayd Mill Road

Either way, I live in Midway and it is my route to anywhere in Bloomington or southwestern suburbs This is going to veer off topic, and yeah, I know I'm a weirdo who avoids suburbs, but those places are way closer to me than they are to you and I like never go there. Do you make a lot of trips from...

Re: Ayd Mill Road

I doubt it is just Dakota County commuters that use Ayd Mill. Maybe the slice of Dakota County that isn’t convenient to Hwy 52 or 77 use it to get to Mpls. Either way, I live in Midway and it is my route to anywhere in Bloomington or southwestern suburbs

Re: Ford Site Redevelopment

Strib reports that Ryan will be asking for $107 million in public funding to make their proposal happen. 1. That is a lot of money. 2. Maybe I am a bit checked out, but it seems this is the first explicit discussion of public funding that has been had for this site. I think everyone assumed the deve...

Re: Transit Crime

I have noticed a lot more smoking on trains lately. It sucks. I don’t want the smokers to be thrown in jail for life or anything but some level of enforcement is welcome. Even if it is just pulling the offenders off the train and giving a warning. I suspect that the actual number of people that smok...

Re: Allianz Field and Snelling-Midway Development

There was an article in the Midway Monitor about proposed developments directly across Snelling that were presented to the Union Park neighborhood group. I read quickly this morning as my pre-schooler demanded attention, so I think I’m in the ballpark but numbers may not be exactly on. Development 1...

Re: Soccer Stadium and Snelling-Midway Development

A couple thoughts: this is in my neighborhood and I am relatively connected to the goings-on. 1. The stadium does feel extremely suburban at the moment. I’m a little disappointed in the skin - renderings showed as more translucent during the daytime, allowing the dramatic structure to show through. ...

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)

What is the projected ridership of the Gold Line? IIRC it is in the 5-7k range. A 2% increase in project budget that results in a 10-20% increase in ridership is a steal at twice the price. Why, exactly, wouldn’t we want to do this?

Am I the only one who hates off-street parking lots where you pull in, aren't guaranteed to find a spot, and have to turn around to pull back out?
No, you are not the only one. This parking plan is a swing and a miss.

The growth along the Green Line corridor is beginning to reach pretty impressive proportions. Hopefully it starts moving deeper into St Paul soon.

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor)

So I have been riding the Green Line daily in St Paul for nearly four years now. I know the ins and outs of the system. I can tell when there's an especially experienced operator who knows when to accelerate and how to brake without making the ride jerky. I have been unquestionably the most sober pe...

Re: Wabasha Center (Former Macy's) - Downtown St. Paul

I know this building is right in the middle of lease-up, so judgment may be premature, but I am extremely unimpressed with what I'm seeing out there: - Interior circulation is confusing, there isn't a great sense of how to move through the space, or your relationship with the outside world, or your ...

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

@mspbjhalter tweeted that MSP submitted 18 sites. What were our metro boosters thinking?! 🤦‍♂️ ...they wanted to come off as desperate, clingy, and versatile? They should have mailed it day before the deadline on the back of an Arby's Napkin and given only 1 site.. I'm sure they would have been more...

Given the awesome expansion possibilities on this line, it seems like a real mistake to build it out to operate in mixed traffic and only accommodate 1 car trains.

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

I don't think we will get selected, but I do sense MSP would make some kind of a short list because we have many of the qualities they seem to be after. If we were somehow to get it, without breaking the bank, then bully for us. I would be pumped. I do think if we want to have a chance then the site...

Re: St. Paul Office Market

That is an interesting report. I didn't know they already had such a presence in the Coco space down by Union Depot - 75 people is equivalent to a decent-sized company. I know there are other companies with suburban campuses that maintain office space downtown - Land O Lakes has their marketing grou...

Milwaukee

Surprised not to see a Milwaukee thread already. Spent a few days last week there, for the first time. See below for thoughts: The downtown area seems to reside somewhere between the downtowns of Minneapolis and St Paul in terms of density and vibrancy. It is interesting that the freeways, when buil...
