Re: O'Gara's Development - 164 Snelling Ave N

That stretch of Fairview has been closed for several months, and most of the time there’s no visible work going on. Then for a while they decided to close down Prior for a while too. Sigh.

Re: Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis - General Topics

MSPBJ has some more context. https://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2019/08/29/after-closing-its-original-northeast-location-new.html The reason I thought of this is because I just saw New Bohemia is closing the Lake Street location too, although that's under the guise of "an offer we couldn't ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

I wish more people treated it as one city that just happens to have two downtowns. Maybe it's because I've lived near the border since 2009, but this is always how I've experienced it. There are things in both, and they're really not all that different. I think a lot of it just comes to where you l...

Re: Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis - General Topics

I heard the New Bohemia at Hennepin and University closed. Has anyone heard much about why, or if anything new is expected to replace it soon?

So I suppose we should get started on converting south Minneapolis back into wetlands too then?

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Not speaking specifically to the downtown, but I think it’s easy for west metro/Minneapolis people to equate St. Paul being smaller with St. Paul being irrelevant, when really St. Paul and the east metro in general have their own smaller but similar ecosystem. Like for me there was a long time when ...

What’s the alternative? Asking earnestly.

Buying them out and forcing these houses off your tax rolls seems no cheaper/better.

Re: Ayd Mill Road

Making this a two lane road would essentially turn it into a parkway, which is fine, but also maybe not quite enough to address the problem here. The bigger issue is that Ayd Mill is the most direct passage from 35E to 94, and it likely still would be. So in addition to ripping out two lanes, the ro...

The Dunn Bros in Metro Lofts adjacent to the Westgate LRT station closed under kind of random circumstances last year too. As far as I know it’s still empty.

Re: Minneapolis Density and Population Growth (500k, etc)

The population comparisons from PLGTMD are interesting, though I think focusing on total population numbers kind of misses the essence of the discussion being had here. The metropolitan area surrounding Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo has roughly 4x more population than the Twin Cities ...

A big reason Cleveland and Cincinnati have better visibility than Columbus is because the Indians, Red, Browns and Bengals. The baseball teams have been around basically as long as the sport has, and the Browns pre-date the Super Bowl. Columbus, from afar, is easy to mistake for a peer to cities lik...

Them moving to Midway also would have generated an interesting discussion surrounding the massive parking ramp they inevitably would have had to build.
