Re: Allianz Field and Snelling-Midway Development

A small win for the urbanists? Allianz Field will have a team store open daily, year round, on the northwest corner.

Re: Shriners Hospital for sale

Yep, and the bridge itself is vertigo inducing. But kind of fun sometimes. And loud. It would be nice to have a more pleasant connection here, though.

Re: Shriners Hospital for sale

There's a crossing already at Seymour. I wouldn't turn one down at Cecil but don't know it'd do much.

Re: Interstate 94

Typically if 35W is backed up I've found city streets to be equally so. And you always think it'll be faster to take some back road, but then you wait 10 minutes to get through a stoplight or four-way stop. I hate sitting in stop and go freeway traffic, but it's really never faster to try to bypass ...

Re: Interstate 94

In my experience, getting off a congested interstate to try to save time on city streets is almost always a losing proposition.

Re: Midtown Corridor Rail & Lake Street aBRT (B Line)

Cool, thanks for the info. That's incredible that a station could cost $400,000. Where is all the money going? It's basically four poles, a few slabs of glass and a computer, right?

Re: Midtown Corridor Rail & Lake Street aBRT (B Line)

To those skilled in back of the napkin math, I'm curious how aBRT costs add up. I know they're dramatically cheaper than LRT, but still it's hard to figure out how these still cost so much. Like, what does a bus cost? I have no idea, but let's say $500K (which seems really high?). And let's say a th...

Minneapolis, Kansas

What do we know about this place? Has anyone been? Perhaps we set up a streets.mn bicycle journey. As a bonus, the road to Minneapolis goes through Wells! (essentially)

Re: Shoveling

Most egregious are the side sidewalks. So many corner houses fail to adequately clear their side sidewalk, which is bad because usually those are often major thoroughfares. The reason I started this thread was the south side of Franklin Avenue in Prospect Park, where several corner houses have their...

Re: Gateway Tower (RBC/Four Seasons) - 37 stories - 503'

What leverage does RBC actually have here in terms of the sign? The company has already put god knows how much time and money into the planning for this building. If it pulled the nuclear option and walked away entirely, RBC not only loses that investment but also the opportunity to occupy a brand n...

Re: Gateway Tower (RBC/Four Seasons) - 37 stories - 503'

I mean, do we really think RBC would put this much effort into this project only to cut bait because they can't have a sign that was never allowed to begin with?

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

Yeah, I was probably too explicit in my first post. This stretch of Hennepin just feels very close to a lot of things, but not part of anything. This restaurant is on the back side of City Center, which is pretty much the western edge of the main office population. Hennepin has a lot going on south ...

Sure, there are some hotels there now, but my overall point remains: who is going to this part of Hennepin Avenue for a pleasant dining experience?

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

Even though this is pretty close to some successful restaurants, this corner feels like kind of a no-man's land. Like, who is naturally around 6th and Hennepin? The location — kind of on the edge of the CBD and the entertainment district, but not far from the seedy bars and strip clubs at 5th and He...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

That WaHu continues to have significant retail vacancies makes me wonder if this market just isn't as strong for casual dining out. Or something. You'd think a Panera or one of a million other options could kill it there.

Re: Art and Architecture Building Development - 3338 University Ave SE - 14 Stories / 155'

I don't love the view *of* the tower being blocked, but it kind of is what it is. I get the sense that's where the Prospect Park community largely comes down on this too. That said, there are still great views of Minneapolis from the base of the tower, but the side facing the new development is alre...

Can someone confirm that this is the nutshell version of events? The Minneapolis 2040 plan will... * Allow for triplexes anywhere in the city * Allow for even more density on all of the major bus route roads People are concerned that... * Developers are going to start buying up single-family homes a...
