Re: 2020 Presidential Election

Of course a lot can change, but I'd think Amy would be a shoo-in for governor when Walz is done. I also think ending an esteemed political career as a governor would be more appealing than being a cabinet official or senator in gridlocked Washington, though I realize others could reasonably disagree...

Does this put Amy back in the drivers seat to succeed Walz?

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath

As I understood it from the reporting Friday night, didn’t they say they had the numbers but they were just initially deployed to the wrong places? One of the tricky parts about the TV coverage was that it was sometimes hard to get a sense of what was going on outside the two or three spots where th...

I’m not 100 percent, but I’m pretty sure that space has always been fenced off and not used as a parking lot.

George Floyd murder and aftermath

This is being discussed in a handful of threads but it feels worthy of having a dedicated space for more general discussion. So here we go. Something I've been thinking about these last few days, as things continue to play out, is whether we might eventually look back at the local response last week...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

Probably time to split this off into it's own thread? Anecdotally, the Walgreens at 31st Avenue was hit hard on Wednesday night, boarded up and broken into again on Thursday, and then destroyed by fire overnight Thursday. Definitely the hardest hit of anything in the vicinity. Not sure if there's an...

Re: Prospect Park - General Topics

A "short" blog, eh? Maybe veering a little off your central point, but in addition to all of the new development you mentioned I'd consider the Hampton Inn & Suites and 44 North to be part of the same transformation around Prospect Park Station. And now that I think about it, technically M Flats mig...

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

I actually think Amy would be a pretty solid pick among a field where nobody is really perfect. Amy's biggest attribute is that she's competent to the point of being kind of lame, which after four years of Donald Trump might actually be an ideal quality right now. It also doesn't hurt that she's dem...

2020 Presidential Election

Looks like we don’t have a thread on this yet. So let’s start with a hypothetical:

If Amy were to get the VP nomination, who would replace her in the senate?

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board

I hate to keep piling on here, but they really did make the worst possible choice here and I can't understand why. The bike is already tight in normal times. Putting them on the road is such an obvious decision, but even just making the road mixed traffic would have been better. I haven't seen an ex...

The dream scenario would be redeveloping the parking ramp. Besides it being a parking ramp, this one is particularly ugly while also on a particularly promising corner.

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board

The current system feels like a pretty fair compromise. In my experience people generally have enough space to spread out, even at the busiest times, and nobody seems to be choking on fumes from the occasional car that still uses the single lane.

Re: Ayd Mill Road

So are they keeping the current roadways and just modifying them to add a bike lane? Or are they tearing everything up and building a new road and a new bike lane in the space?

Re: Allianz Field and Snelling-Midway Development

I agree parking worked fine last year, though I think this year would have provided better insights into what the needs will be long term. The fact that there weren't major issues makes me wonder if more people will risk it and try to park in the neighborhoods instead of the fairgrounds, for example...

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board

Some direction was needed to avoid everything becoming a total mess; they just provided the wrong direction. In the existing system you already have bikes on the outside, pedestrians on the inside, sticking to the right. Moving bikes to the road would have kept that alignment while also providing th...

The loop from downtown through St. Anthony Main via the Stone Arch Bridge and Hennepin Avenue bridge is just sitting there waiting for somebody to realize its potential.
