Re: The Next Trendy Neighborhood of the Twin Cities

I had to look up where Glenwood Avenue is. Of these I actually think West Seventh has a ton of potential. There's already a lot there, and the location by the Xcel Energy Center already feels like a "destination." What this area really needs now is just a lot more people. Midway is an interesting ca...

Iconic Local News Commenters

If you're an intrepid local news watcher like Nick, MNdible and myself, you might have noticed that a few particularly active commenters tend to have an outsized influence on our discourse. Say, for example, the latest Eric Black Ink headline has you seething so you click into the MinnPost site for ...

Re: MPS Comprehensive District Design

My neighborhood will shift from South to Roosevelt even though we're much closer to South, and South has a better reputation. With a lot of this stuff, I feel like you don't really know anything until you know it. Like, I've tried researching schools in the past, but I don't know how you could ever...

Although:
The amended project was approved by the planning commission last month. Some neighbors plan to appeal the decision at the council’s zoning and planning committee meeting Thursday, Parritz said.

Re: Daymark Uptown (Sons of Norway site) - 3014 Holmes Ave S

I've said it before, but retail geared towards the daily needs of the many people who live in the area should do quite well. Like a Lunds, Cub, CVS and mini Target? Just looking at Google Maps the immediate area also has a large gym, library, liquor store, dry cleaners, car repair and FedEx store, ...

Re: Saint Paul - General Topics

Does anyone know what’s going on at the southwest corner of University and Hampton? It looks like they’re gutting something to rebuild but drove by fast and wasn’t sure.

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and Intercity Rail to Chicago

Not totally sure where to post this, but searching for keywords "St. Louis Chicago Rail" mostly pulled up this thread. A few weeks ago family from the St. Louis area mentioned that the upgrade to supposed high-speed rail to Chicago still wasn't finished. I was initially skeptical, because I know tha...

Re: White Bear Lake & Vadnais Heights - General Topics

I guess I'm not sure what you're getting at? My point was just that there are a lot of goofy things going on with this story, and "they're trying to lure a brewery into car-centric neighborhood" seems like kind of a random one to call out.

To be fair, a lot of breweries in Minneapolis are also in random spots without commercial neighbors or great walkability.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Not that it was an either/or situation, but adding the Green Line tracks did a lot to improve University Avenue overall, which to that point had been a really wide, ugly, industrial corridor.

The Snelling intersection, though, especially now with the stadium there, appears shortsighted.

Costco is the last store I want anywhere in St Paul, much less Midway.
Not having one in St. Paul doesn’t stop locals from shopping there. It just means people are spending their money in the suburbs instead of the city.

Re: Allianz Field and Snelling-Midway Development

I know we all want to get away from the big box stores and auto-centric layout but ... it might not be the worst thing if a place like Costco or Home Depot moved into one of these spaces, albeit with a more pedestrian friendly design. They're places we all go to anyway, but now you just have to driv...

Re: Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis - General Topics

Yeah, good point. I was in a hurry and not immediately sure where to put this question. I thought about the University of Minnesota topic, but that seems more for things specifically tied to the school. The northeast/southeast thread seemed like an adequate location as kind of the general discussion...
