Re: Green Line LRT
Why are they closing down most of the Green Line in a couple weeks for a weekend?

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
I have a theory on this: Residents of Kenworth are still pissed about the light rail going in so they will do anything to make it look bad, also KSTP has been anti light rail since the green line went in (if not before) and like the residents of Kenworth, will do anything to make it look bad.. Combi...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
New Northstar Study has dropped. https://www.dot.state.mn.us/passengerrail/northstar/index.html 2036-2038 implementation is absolute BS Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk By that time it should be a full-fledged regional rail service on par with the likes of UTA's Frontrunner. With Minnesota's host...

Re: Transit Crime
... people that drive around the system in pairs of 2 doing clean up on a schedule of all the stops bus brt and light rail Oh the irony. you try bringing a bunch of cleaning equipment including a pressure washer and a big garbage can onto a bus or train that's full with only 2 people. there's a rea...

Re: Northern Lights Express
This tweet shows a proposed extension of the North Shore Scenic Railroad up to Biwabik . Has anybody seen anything about this before? While I could see at least some potential for a train connection up to Giant's Ridge, the track from Two Harbors up to the range is still in active freight use with ...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
If that was considered I'm guessing it was rejected because of visual blight of the bridge and the need for security fencing so people don't throw stuff onto the tracks or overhead wires. I attended the earliest public meetings where the options were shown including putting the bike trail on a brid...

Re: Suburban Malls and Associated Retail News
Wal-Mart also closed the University Ave store not terribly long ago. I wonder how the Robbinsdale Hyvee is doing? Maybe that will be the next store to close. Their prices are higher than the nearby Cub. Not to go off topic (kinda) but if you're talking about the one in St. Paul, it was small and ha...

Problem I see with the end of the line station is that they are doing exactly what they tried to do with the MOA station was first designed and the feds got involved and paid for the station that's there now. Yes it's slow but it's better than hiking through the parking ramp

Re: Amtrak: Empire Builder and Great River (TCMC)
I'm thinking SPUD, mainly because they have more room to put trains if need be and the Empire Builder doesn't have to back up a mile or so (which I'm sure would be a deal breaker for BNSF for Target Field).

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail
The point is there's nothing between Northfield and Minneapolis/St. Paul that merits regional rail service. A suburban park and ride station, if necessary, could go somewhere on either route and serve SOTR just fine. Track between those two destinations is a means to an end to get from one place to...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
I live about a mile south of University and remember they started from the U/junction with the blue line to Dale Street in St. Paul in 2012, and east of Dale to Union Depot the following year. All the construction contracts were awarded before construction began (except of the signals and communicat...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the Met Council award the systems contract until last year (why they waited so long, I have no clue), you'd think that they would have all the contracts awarded before construction started, I believe that pushed back the opening (along with the tunnel and wall).

Re: MSP Airport
Not just businesses. I don't think the MAC would even entertain talking about closing STP, let alone taking the steps to plan for that capacity to be absorbed at other airports. At the bare minimum, I think you'd need another east side airport to be expanded to at least the size of Flying Cloud, po...

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
They do like their own stations, but mostly for land development reasons. I could see two scenarios where they would be open to using existing infrastructure: - Union Depot gives them the space and means to create their own customer experience at the station, similar to airport lounges for preferre...

Re: MSP Airport
This may be a longshot but is there any chance of MAC building a second aircraft viewing area where the old Speedway is? Nothing against the current one but when planes are using 30L to take off, by the time most of them get to the viewing area, all you see is the bottoms of the planes.

IIRC 35W used to flood a couple times around Diamond Lake Road, but that was before they redid that interchange, I can't remember if it was a standalone project or if it was part of the 35W-62 project.

I can see them being used if there was a big crash or major disaster/demonstration. I've lived here since 2000 and don't remember any freeway in the metro ever being shut down for weather.
