Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Every delay costs money, so they're going to have to justify that the re-bidding will result in greater cost savings than the cost of the four-month delay.

Re: Pedestrian Safety and Infrastructure Improvements

Hmm, I don't have hard data, but it seems like Minneapolis is retrofitting intersections with bump-outs at a much higher rate city-wide than St. Paul these days.

Re: Cedar/Minnehaha/Franklin Intersection

Yeah that seems like a wholly unecessary diversion for what was once a straight shot if I wanted to head north into Cedar Riverside. Now to go North or West I have to go left through 22nd, and up Cedar to go straight or turn left. That and cutting off 20th so you can only turn right onto Franklin i...

The area is also sorely lacking in street-level businesses, even relative to the rest of downtown.

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

The cynical approach would be to join the unrealistic promises game that Republicans are sure to engage in, somehow manage to lock down the MN House/Senate/Governor by 2020, then attempt an aggressive redistricting process that better optimizes the expanding Dem base in the metro relative to the lar...

But, when these ice shelves break off and melt, sea level actually goes down slightly, not up. I don't see how people don't get this. Depends on if it's land ice or sea ice. Last time I checked, ice shelves are by definition over water not land. Oops, was thinking ice sheet/ice shelf could be used ...

Does anyone know if the Como/18th avenue signal removal is permanent? It felt pretty nice biking through there with a 4-way stop.

Why not aBRT now (it could be done within a year if we set our minds to it) and plans for LRT in the future (maybe in 10-ish years)?
Isn't ~10 years what we would be looking at for rail if we simply followed the current planning process? This isn't going to be done any time soon.

Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics

Definitely makes me feel less likely to vote for Reich. Unfortunately, as of the convention his only real opponent seems to have acquired absolutely zero knowledge of city planning or zoning. She could not name a single committee when asked in the Q&A session. It's too bad that Wefel never got more...

Re: 2017-18 MN Legislative Session & Budget (Djayton Unchained)

Can someone explain how this has made it in to the transportation budget bill? Is there something unique about Calhoun Isles, or this shady backroom dealing? To me, this almost reads like a backdoor mechanism to further delay SWLRT via statute-enabled litigation. https://www.revisor.mn.gov/bills/tex...

The recommended layout is up: http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/www/groups/public/@publicworks/documents/images/wcmsp-198111.pdf They went with 2A (bike lanes, east side parking) south of 31st and 1A (bike lanes, no on-street parking, raised mid-block crossing) north of 31st. The latter portion is goi...

I believe they can pass another resolution if they feel a deal can be made. The March 30th deadline was self-imposed.

I'll be emailing McLaughlin about getting this done. SWLRT just cannot keep getting delayed.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

A fair amount of vulnerable metro Republicans signed on to the FTA letter. I guess I'm not really understanding their political calculus. These are districts with existing transit service! Do they think that their constituents want them to spite other areas of MSP? Hopefully someone finds an effecti...
