Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

I don't understand how the streetcar is going to run under the building, then out onto hennepin and make a turn, all with signalization needed for cars, peds, bicycles (new cycle track on Wash). That seems like a mess. Plus isn't it taking up a bunch of space, and key retail space kitty korner Whole...

Re: Minneapolis Skyway System

mullen is right. skyways just help workers walk an extra block without a coat for lunch on very cold days (and unfortunately on the most days of the year that are perfectly fine for outdoor walking). But really, if its really cold out, and you don't want to walk far -- then go to the lunch place in ...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

I get those points, but in this area, there is no connection currently to the library from 4th street and not sure who would pay for that connection, plus it is not reasonable to connect to the old fed building across the survivors park. So why would you connect the Nicollet block only to the librar...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

How about not putting in all these skyways that people are talking about? Whatever happened to the talk of not building more skyways? Now we want to build out the system all the way down to Whole Foods, and hack a hole through our Cesar Pelli library? Nice. This block will be better served, and this...

Re: Thresher Square

hopefully that would be the tipping point at 4Marq. But people seem to focus their attention on skyways way too much when regardless of whether you are building a skyway, the street is totally neglected. Yes, there looks to be some basic improvement with street trees on Chicago. But the 3rd street s...

Re: Thresher Square

So sad to see developers in minneapolis wasting money on a skyway. So much for the idea that the downtown doesn't need anymore skyways. More skyways connecting to more parking garages and no mention of what will be done to improve the streetscape, which is god awful in downtown and needs more invest...

Re: Downtown East Project (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo)

I don't understand all the displeasure with what's taking shape. The buildings seem above average in design for this type of setting and I'm actually still in awe that this whole area is going to be developed the way it is going. Especially the Ryan hotel/apartment, I think it looks great. The only ...

Re: Former Macy's Site

I agree with the comment that it is unlikely that 7th street can begin to be reopened here but I still think its worth exploring. The old 7th street is actually taken up by the World Trade Ctr but you could reconnect wabasha and cedar by moving the street over a bit and provide a pedestrian street. ...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

There are many parks that have closed roads that are like what this one will be like - Washington Square in NYC had a road going through it that was closed permanently without any impact. It seems to me what is happening here is that Ryan is not interested as much in the park as they are in their de...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

Regardless of whether the streets are kept open, the park will be a great asset to downtown. The land bridge could be very cool, but it would be cost prohibitive. Again, I kindly suggest that you can do a lot with some traffic calming that could make a nice connection, keep costs low and still keep ...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

The fact that they can't even to traffic calming on park and portland for one block is a total failure and weak. The city and especially the county should be encouraging this rather than just having a bunch of old county engineers knee-jerkingly reject anything people-friendly. Have they even consid...

Re: Opus Dinkytown Project - (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE

Just a couple points to add: -it is ironic that there are already national chains in buildings that are not the opus development. -what stops national chains from locating in a two story development on this site, presumably what would happen at some point. -as noted by others, many buildings have ve...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks

If this 36,000 sq. feet is actually within the two block section of the park this is a bad idea. It really isn't good to have office or residential buildings basically in the park midblock. It will diminish the character of the park and probably the property values. A park of this nature should be d...
