Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

Irt north east's hipsterdom. "Every other neighborhood in the country, give up." https://www.yahoo.com/travel/the-brooklyn-of-every-state-125773642747.html?soc_src=unv-sh&soc_trk=fb Hmm. I'm not sure I agree with Sioux Falls as being South Dakota's hipsterville. I was just in Rapid Ci...

Re: The Cameron - (756 North 4th Street)

I can't wait to see how this one turns out. I really love the stark, minimalistic industrial look of this building. Should make a nice contrast to the modern developments next door.

Re: Minneapolis Sculpture Garden & Walker Art Center

I'm definitely not in love with the new landscaping, particularly at the main entrance. It looks ruthlessly cheap and suburban. Berms? Ugh. Why. This corner is the most visible side of the museum and the gateway to one of the biggest attractions in the Twin Cities paired with the Sculpture Garden. W...

Re: Hampton Inn & Suites - (19 8th Street North)

The facade looks like it's made out of cardboard. Sure, it erased a surface lot, but how many more of these dirt-cheap, design-poor developments until our downtown looks like a Mexican boomtown?

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

Sometimes call center employees don't even need a high school education. Unfortunately, it's not at all surprising to me that an American citizen could fail at even the simplest of American geography. I hope you gently insinuated that she should be ashamed. I've run into a lot of people who se...

Re: Rumors: A Historical Record of Mystery

[boi=gay, hmmm as a 56yo gay man I've never heard that before. Maybe i should change my name. Well, you are over 50. ;) Seriously, that's not a knock on you; it's very much a generational thing. I understood the reference to "angry bois" as a vaguely derogatory swipe at the fact that a lo...

Re: Rumors: A Historical Record of Mystery

One if the first posts by TexasRE that was supposedly passed on from Ryan details how he checked this forum out and decided we were all childish angry hypocrites. It was the first post to mention "angry bois", I believe.. It seems strange to me that a white-bread, supposedly straight, dev...

This is fantastic. I'd suggest that you post this in the "Drama" thread over at SSC.

Re: Rumors!

Great discussion as always on this site. Someone on SSC mentioned John Titor, who I didn't know of but found to be a very interesting analogy to all of this. That was me. The really interesting thing about the John Titor story is, to this day, no one has been able to positively identify the real ho...

Re: Rumors!

I think it's really cute how I've been vilified over at SSC for having a healthy amount of skepticism about all of these grandiose development rumors flying around, yet the moment something is actually verified to be (probably) true with supposedly real renderings, we suddenly have to take a step ba...

Re: Farmers Market Soccer Stadium

I would prefer this be built near MOA instead of taking up downtown land that will soon be desirable due to its proximity to SWLRT and downtown. There is still so much developable land everywhere in downtown Minneapolis and this particular site is in such a nasty, decrepit area that I think it woul...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium

I was driving into town the other day on I-35W from the north, and I was shocked by how huge of a profile the skeleton of this thing already has! You can see this monster prominently soaring over Downtown East from miles away. It's going to be absolutely gargantuan. Love the design or hate it, this ...

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project

This is by far the most interesting tidbit from that story. A Mall (or, well, Mile) with only Streetcars would be a marvelous sight. If Nicollet Mall is to be the retail center of the city we want to bring people there! Cross streets cut through Nicollet Mall at every single block. The mall is serv...

Re: Water

I actually think xeriscaping makes a yard more appealing and visually interesting. Plant natives once, and then you'll never have to worry about your yard again (except for some minimal maintenance here and there). Natives make for some nice winter interest, too. Even xeriscaped Midwestern yards wil...

Much, MUCH better. So glad this turned out decently, even though I'm still a bit disappointed the panels aren't metallic or Cor-Ten.

Re: Minneapolis Sculpture Garden

WHAT. If it was widely known that this was actually happening, the public would be outraged.

The conservatory is one of the best things about the sculpture garden. Why does everything turn to sh*t in this city? A banquet facility!? Unbelievable.

Re: Velo Apartments - (103 Second Street North)

Honestly, anything with paneling that looks even remotely like plastic/vinyl looks cheap to me, e.g. almost every single infill development that's gone up in the last five years.

Re: Thresher Square

I feel like we're becoming so accustomed to mediocre (or even just downright poor) architectural design that nobody even cares that the apartments portion of this development is shamefully unimpressive. In any case, I'm enthralled this lot could finally see some actual development, even if it's anot...

Re: Target Field Station

I would like to some stores like that japanese one built under the i94 viaducts! That's actually an excellent idea — I think this is a vastly superior solution to filling up the dead space created by the 3rd/4th St. Viaducts than a dungeonesque "underpass park". If we can't get rid of the...
