Anyone have a photo for those of us not in the neighborhood? Curious how this turned out.

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map

Others never seem to acknowledge that replacing SFHs lessens the supply of SFHs, driving up prices. People actually do like living in SFHs. Shocking, I know. I have said many times that I would welcome 13-or-more story infill buildings. That lessens the pressure on taking more SFHs. Other people do...

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map

ne of the 'long-time resident' board members, who was (and presumably still is) very active in the organization, pointed out that he had recently taken the 6 downtown and it "worked pretty good" for him. I definitely believe that attitude is common. I mean, it does work pretty good. I rarely have a...

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map

Is this really a common argument? That calming doesn't need to occur because the area is successful already? I don't think it would be expressed in that way, but sure: "don't fix what isn't broken." Sort of related: when I was on the ECCO board many years ago, there was a moment that really stuck w...

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map

Maybe this is the wrong thread but anyone ever think about calming traffic on Lake and Lagoon? Went to Lake and Irving restaurant last Saturday and I noticed how dangerous and unpleasant the traffic is there. Could easily be two lanes plus a bike facility. They're county roads, so the conventional ...

Re: 29th Street Reconstruction Project

Its ironic how some try to frame a Woonerf here some sort of risky radical urbanist pipe dream that could only appeal to Dutchophiles. That's right. The idea of a shared multimodal space that emphasizes comfort and safety for pedestrians and bicycle users is not really novel, and the Netherlands is...

Fjällräven is opening up in the former Everyday People space!!! Will open doors this Saturday. http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2015/09/16/fjallraven-opening-minneapolis-uptown-store.html Hopefully/maybe they'll advocate for getting rid of that stupid duplicative bus stop at Hennepin & La...

Re: Lake Calhoun

The Dakota were almost certainly not the first people to neighbor the lake. More likely five or six discrete peoples inhabited the area before the arrival of Europeans. Almost any name would be better Calhoun. That's a bit pedantic, and in any case, the Dakota were certainly there before the Europe...

Re: Lake Calhoun

I don't get why we would rename the lake for another politician. What does the lake have to do with any of them (besides a few being buried next door)? Monuments, buildings, etc., I get, but the lake is something bigger than any political leader. If the name will change, change it back to the origin...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Another great example of why this is a necessary transit option. I just helped a man who lives in the cedar riverside neighborhood get to a warehouse job that pays $13 an hour. There are good paying jobs like this in higher quantities in the suburbs because of the higher number of industrial busine...

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minneapolis

Are you sure about that? From what I hear, stoplights are either controlled by fiber or they are isolated to the local box. Maybe there's an older communication protocol that I'm unaware of. But if it's all the newer fiber connections to cabinets, it should be an easy move. Speaking of, hey mdcastl...

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minneapolis

There is some city or county traffic building next to the FM that they would have to acquire or raise to get the stadium bowl to fit. It is about equal with where the street at the North end of the FM borders. Every stoplight in Minneapolis is wired into that building, so I imagine they have done a...

Re: 3041 Holmes

I'm thinking more about the tired-looking one/two-story commercial buildings in the area. The apartment buildings aren't going anywhere. I'm not as familiar with the houses. I'll have to take a walk this weekend. :) On 31st, there aren't any commercial buildings west of Holmes. But that stretch, le...

Re: 3041 Holmes

I might be misunderstanding this, but apart from the Sons of Norway parking lot (and maybe the SW corner at Humboldt), I don't see what "upgrades" could be done west of Holmes on 31st. It's more or less fully built, and there are some very nice homes along the stretch. Hell, that's part of the appea...

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minneapolis

From what I hear, many on the council are displeased with how Frey has been "off on his own" negotiating on this. I'm sure Hodges shares that sentiment. Then perhaps Mayor Hodges should step forward. At this point the team is asking for almost nothing, and none of the asks are without precedent. As...

Re: Uptown Hotel Discussion

I believe that an increase in height requires a conditional use permit, which is much easier to grant than a variance. Correct, in this case. And probably an easy CUP in this case as well. "The height limitations of principal structures located in the commercial districts, except single and two-fam...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

As far as I know, legitimate questions about ridership forecasting methodologies were never answered by project staff or the consultants, at least not substantively. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Yes, they were. Multiple times. It's all in the DEIS. The same DEIS that included park-and-rides for ...
