That particular development's frontage on Main Street is one the worst pieces of urban design in the city.
I always assumed that the retaining wall here predated the condo development, but I guess I'm not 100% sure about that. Can anybody confirm?

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Yep, exactly. I didn't mean to suggest that St. Paul is the same as Fergus Falls, but just to point out that there's a reason that the going rate for Class A in downtown Minneapolis is $33.57 and downtown St. Paul is $26.76. [source PDF]

Re: Alia Tower - 200 Central - 483' / 40 Stories

The Legacy shows that there remains strong demand in the $300k - $700k range. It makes sense that there's only so much demand for units above $1m. And as the article notes, it wasn't just Eleven moving forward in that price range -- there was also the Gateway project and (maybe) TMBR. It will be int...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Well, if you're ignoring amenities and adjacencies and just looking at a straight $/sf value, you'd get more bang for your buck in Downtown Fergus Falls.

Well, it worked, so some reason.
The legal wrangling definitely made things more difficult, but there was a good window for them to move on this project, and they clearly didn't have their ducks in a row and the window closed. [shrugs]

Re: Northside - General Topics

Suspected as much.

So, maybe it's time for the HRA to modify their master plan, if these shovel-ready lots have been sitting untouched through one of the largest housing construction booms Minneapolis has seen in decades?

Re: the Heritage Park / Sumner Field area, it seems like there are quite a few lots that were intended to be developed that have never been built out. Is there a reason that these lots are still sitting empty?

Looked to me like they're going to touch up paint the support structure and don't want to get overspray on the mirrored surfaces.

Delivered just in time for the snow plows to smack into them!

But seriously, this glad they're finally stepping up to add some additional color and interest.

Re: Future Cars: Electric and Autonomous Vehicles

I've been banging on this gong for a while, but using these AV's for collector shuttles that feed or distribute from our mainline transit service on short, predictable routes seems like a match made in heaven. Getting rid of the labor cost of the driver allows these vehicles to be smaller and still ...

Just for reference, even if you were to redevelop just the Walmart and its associated parking, that would be roughly equivalent to two St. Paul city blocks, or about 10 acres. That by itself is a huge site.

This may just be exposing my night owl bias, but I'd really have to expect that they'd do *way* more business in the 8-9pm hour than the 9-10am hour.

This hotel is decent enough, but it is surprising that, at least in the renders - and so far in the construction, it is almost impossible to tell that there is a major performance venue contained within the site. If this rendering is accurate, I think people will figure it out. http://mspmag.com/do...

Re: Uptown (and LynLake) Development & General Topics

I think the issue is that parks can be active or passive. The Mall has historically been a passive park, meaning that it doesn't have sports fields. Not every park needs to, or ought to, have sports activities.
