Re: Upper Harbor Terminal

Red Rocks has about 9,500 seats; this venue is designed to have 10,000. Pretty comparable, although this capacity appears to be based on standing in GA.

Re: Avenues- Replace Numbers With Names

34th could be Humphrey Ave, right?

Maybe Wenonah Ave for 28th? Or is there already a street somewhere with that name?

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

Just a random thing: the number of voters for all candidates in Cook County is approximately equal to the number of Hennepin County voters who supported Ole Savior.

And DFL voters on the Range went pretty hard for Swanson, so I'm not sure how you can draw any particular conclusions from that.

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

I guess I'm just not convinced that Republicans have to kowtow to Trump to get elected, especially when Trumpism is so unnatural to the candidate. But again, probably just wishful thinking. Depends on the slice of electorate you're trying to snag, presumably. Watch Paulsen -- he's going to be runni...

Re: West Elm Hotel & Condos - 102-120 1st Street N

Yeah, not that they should repeat themselves, but I think the Spoonriver building that they show in the packet, designed by the same firm, has a more appropriate material palette for this location. The simple massing and austere detailing doesn't bother me -- as noted above, that's much better that ...

Re: Nicollet Mall

Also, people always always always underestimate how much space an ADA compliant ramp takes up. If the surface of the Greenway is 15' above the La Salle elevation, you need 300' of ramp to get up to it. That's basically a full downtown block.

Re: Nicollet Mall

Providing access from LaSalle up to the Greenway is a good idea. Forcing all pedestrians to ramp up to the Greenway is not a good idea.

Re: Malcolm Yards Phase One (food hall, apartment buildings, grocery store)

Well, it's going to have a roof, obviously.

From the renderings, it appears that they'll be installing a new roof at what would have been the floor line between the first and second floors of the space?

I just think it looks very awkward and would have been better with the original roofline.

Re: Malcolm Yards Phase One (food hall, apartment buildings, grocery store)

It bugs me that they're not going to put a roof back on the food hall. It's one thing for the Mill City Museum to occupy a burned out ruin, but here it would be worlds better to restore the old roofline and have the foodhall in an airy, vaulted space.

Re: Nicollet Mall

The US Bancorp Center is just the worst in this regard. I'm not sure that the building itself is that bad -- there's nothing to say, for example, that the McCormick's and Schmick's space couldn't be subdivided into six distinct retail spaces, if that's what the landlord was interested in doing. And...

My guess is that Bull's Horn is scratch cooking their food, while most other places are getting it straight from the Sysco truck. I like a short, focused menu. And having a cheap tap beer is an option that I always appreciate.

Re: Southside - General Topics

I'd be happier if the Sunrise Inn / Bull's Horn building had gone that route. It's sad, but Venn Brewing + random food truck is more attractive than ever going to Bull's Horn again. Not my neighborhood, but I've been to Bull's Horn several times and thought it was pretty great. What's your issue wi...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

I see that the Strib finally picked this up, but unfortunately I'm really not sure that this story is going to move the needle enough to impact the primary.

I'm still hopeful that the few voters that this peels off from Swanson will be enough to put Walz over the top.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

My understanding is that's not quite correct -- they're still paying for their share of the full transit system (all of the transit money goes into the same pot), but they now have control over how their slice of that money gets spent.

Oh, and they're also proposing to hang their balconies on 11th Avenue 100% into the public ROW. Solhem is a chronic offender on this one, and somehow the city keeps signing off on it. If you want your units to have balconies, design your building to accommodate them on the property you own. It's jus...

Re: OX-OP Gallery and Residences.

One test for any project ought to be, "Does this project make it reasonable for the neighboring property to build something comparable?" And the answer here is clearly "No." Just because you're the first out of the ground doesn't mean you get to own the air and view that's not on your property. You ...
