Re: United Properties / Four Seasons "Gateway" Project (Nicollet Hotel Block)
Anyone know how common/uncommon it is for a single tower to have a combination of hotel, office and condo? Certainly there are a lot of buildings with hotel and condos, but this just seems like they're throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks?

Re: North Loop Neighborhood
The park aside, am I the only one that thinks it's a joke that this neighborhood can't seem to get anything better than a generic, fairly ugly six story apartment building? Wasn't there some legislative changes made last year that were supposed to make things easier/more viable for condo development...

Re: Sons of Norway block redevelopment - 1455 Lake St W
seems like they've updated the design of the south building (if i recall the earlier plan correctly). The facade definitely seems random, in a bad way. I suspect it was intended to break up the massing but doesn't seem to work.

Its very underwhelming and a downgrade from what we previously had (imho).

The base looks fine, but, the tower is still fairly bland and uninspired
It kind of reminds me of some of those older Loring Park apartment and condo towers from the 80's.

Re: Sons of Norway block redevelopment - 1455 Lake St W
I wouldn't say i love it but definitely don't hate it. Its more original than all of the other recent 6 story buildings that have gone up in uptown. I do wish it felt more cohesive... it looks like its mixing architectural styles in an odd/random way. The actual materials used on this one will have ...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
I'm not surprised Coup is closing, it never seemed all that busy in there and the space is very large. That said, I will be sad to see it go. This definitely advances the perception/trend that the core of Uptown is nothing more than a place for recent college grads to party.

Re: Sons of Norway block redevelopment - 1455 Lake St W
One of the things I had hoped for was that lunds would move into the ground floor of some larger development, opening up that massive space for redevelopment. It seems more and more unlikely, but I'm still holding out hope!

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
The thing here is that the amount of locations tends to be negatively correlated with the cool/hip factor. Most people living in these locations want a unique experience vs. going to what amounts to an urban-oriented applebees that everyone goes too (granted much better food). The folks behind Freeh...

Agree- looks great.
I'm still surprised that nothing regarding sales information has come forward. Wonder if they decided to go with apartments instead..

Anyone have any insights on the old Wuollet space? Crews have been working on it for some time now.

It baffles me how this gets approved, yet the Trader Joes proposal on Lyndale a few years back (which was of similar scale and quality) got denied for not being dense enough (yes, I'm still bitter about that).

http://www.mprnews.org/story/2016/04/13/appetites-downtown-minneapolis-restaurants-closing Some interesting perspective on the downtown restaurant scene from MPR (listen to the audio for the full story). The one element that the analysis misses is the growth of restaurants across Minneapolis within ...

I'm confident there's very much a market for this, I would expect it to primarily be similar to the empty nesters that fill the condo's along the mississippi in the mill district. The demand along there has been quite outstanding (reflected by lack of inventory and soaring price per sqft).
