I bet that is probably due to 65 being an expressway with multiple stoplights with only a few limited-access interchanges.Bonus if the proposed schedule holds up: The Cambridge-Target Field train time is ~7 minutes faster than the drive time without traffic.

Re: White Bear Corridor
Also, given that 35E's MnPASS lanes are already being extended to County Rd J (NB) and Highway 96 (SB), most people in this area might be more inclined to still drive to downtown Saint Paul from the northern suburbs (I use 35E on my commute and its usually only 10 minutes to downtown even with traff...

Re: Video Games
I like the mods, but I still prefer SimCity 4 a bit more than Cities: Skylines to be honest. SC4 looks more realistic to me, as something about the 3D graphics of the 2013 SimCity and C:S just seem odd to me for some reason. Plus the various demands for stuff like crematoriums gets annoying. I still...

Re: 735 S Cleveland- Edina Realty Redevelopment
Which is a valid point as I'm not the biggest fan of the design either. I just wish the neighborhood opponents would put more focus on the design/appearance of a new development rather than the size of it and parking issues.

Re: 735 S Cleveland- Edina Realty Redevelopment
I have a feeling that parking is still going to be pretty easy in that area. Even when I go to HPB on Ford and their lot is full, there has always been a spot on the street only a block or two away. When most people complain about parking to me, it's usually that they are too lazy to walk a block or...

Re: Suburbs - General Topics
Little Canada only has about 2,500 ppsm, but the minimum lot size for new houses ranges from 10,000-11,000 sf. There are always a couple residents that are in opposition when large lots get subdivided. Minnesotans in general just have an aversion to density for some odd reason.

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
I don't know. I spent two years working in Loretto. Most of my coworkers were from Buffalo, Montrose and Delano. The amount of racist comments I heard out there was off the charts. When I attended MNSU my freshman year, some guy from Delano thought Little Canada was "so ghetto" when I tol...

You can always play the "Twin Cities Edition" of Monopoly (I think from the 90s) that is now full of defunct or renamed businesses (Minnegasco, National City Bank, Dayton's, etc.). http://monopolytraveler.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/Twin-Cities-Board.jpg http://monopolytraveler.com/blog/wp...

Re: Forum Etiquette
Honestly, some of the discussions on the forum and streets.mn in general are off-putting to me due to condescending tones. It has lead me to become more apathetic towards urban planning in general. I have gradually focused towards getting GIS-based jobs over the planning field (although they can go ...

I think the 17-story tower is adequate for now. Something of this scale would be nice on the block where Surdyk's currently is, whenever that could ever be developed (I assume a very long time).

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
Between the 850 and 852 (expresses from Foley) there are 37 AM rush hour departures to Minneapolis, dropping off on Marquette. There are 5 AM Northstar departures to Minneapolis, dropping off in the North Loop. Which one would you take? Honestly the train if it fit my schedule. I've found trains to...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
They should at least have the Foley Blvd station be built, which would transfer some of the park and ride commuter ridership from bus to rail. While there wouldn't be a massive improvement in travel time switching from the express buses, it still doesn't make sense that Northstar goes by the largest...

Re: Public Transit News and Happenings
I always see a "mini bus" around Rosedale. I think it is an 87. Makes me laugh every time. It looks half the size of a regular bus. It's the 87 that goes down Cleveland, I took it for a semester to the U's Saint Paul Campus in 2012 when Rosedale still had a P&R lot. It's not bad, but ...

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)
The density just isn't there and given the 35E expansion, I doubt this will ever come into fruition except maybe a fancier express bus. WBL is dense for an eastern suburb, but it's still less dense than Robbinsdale or SLP. Maplewood really isn't too dense either; if WBL's downtown was where Maplewoo...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail
Even with the high speed, you have to factor in the actual average speed the train will go. I just came back from UMD from a symposium on Friday and it took me less than 2 hours to get to Vadnais Heights (though yes I was speeding). Even if the train's max speed goes faster than my car, I can still ...

My uncle and aunt who live north of Sartell did a roundtrip to Dublin last month from the St Cloud airport via O'Hare and Toronto to Dublin, and then via Newark and O'Hare; getting there they did alright, but their flight to O'Hare from Newark got cancelled and they ended up flying straight to MSP t...
