Re: Calhoun Square

Calhoun Square sells for $35 million, down from $69m just 5 years ago. They plan "significant changes" saying it's problems are a "mix of the building and the wrong tenants”, not the location or neighborhood. http://www.startribune.com/chicago-investment-firm-buys-calhoun-square-for-3...

Good article in the NYTimes about how autonomous vehicles may end up increasing pedestrian fatalities:

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Downtown St Paul has some great urban spaces, but in between them it's real gross. Walking down 6th St between Rice Park and Mears Park is very depressing.

I mean the real disappointment is the people that tied them up in the courts for months, for no reason.

Re: Fullertown Flats - 4736 Grand Ave

It is weird how the 2040 plan did not increase allowances here at all. And why? Just because it happens to be farther from the core? This is a fully commercial node. Every corner is a commercial building (except for the park), and there is already a 2.5 story building within a building or two from e...

Re: Saint Paul - General Topics

Fortunately/unfortunately, St Paul has oodles of huge spaces to develop. Hillcrest, Ford, and even just on University there is the old Sears site, the area around Allianz, and now this. There is no way all of them get developed this cycle, and I'm worried we'll end up in a situation where a big box ...

That axis says we had a ridership of over 6 trillion in June, which I'd say is pretty damn impressive for a metro area our size.

Re: Renaissance Square / The Andrus

It is a bit strange that a restaurant functioned in this exact space for a very long time, and a current restaurant and a bar continue to function with the exact same alley constraints as this, yet this particular space is the odd one out.

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News

Kind of wild how one of (if the most) cohesive, urban space in Minneapolis in an area packing some of the highest density and near some of the wealthiest areas of town, has so many high-profile vacant spots. With the exception of Target, has there been a new retail (not service or food) tenant in t...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

I'm enjoying the new Nicollet! It is very well used during the day, people sitting on the chairs, playing the games they have set out, and the public piano. I walk along stretches of the whole length at least once a week, at different times of the day, and granted I am a straight white male, but I'v...

Nice! That corner has been a bummer for awhile. Though it's too bad they couldn't incorporate Little Jack's in there somehow. What a weird building. Did anyone ever go in there back in the day?

Re: Hennepin Avenue (Franklin to 36th)

I know the construction is pretty much finished now but how area between lake at 31st end up so barren? kind of surprised that they didn't add anything like storm water pavers to add some variety. I'll repeat my earlier criticism that the Lake to 31st block absolutely needs to have have pull-off ba...

My dad takes the parkway coming from Highland Park in St. Paul to my sister's at Lyndale & 54th. These changes will almost certainly push him to 62. One anecdote, for sure, but I don't think it's so unusual.

Re: D Line - Chicago-Fremont/Emerson Rapid Bus

Well that is not true at all for the whole northern half of the line, nor the section south of 62, only for the part cutting through South Minneapolis between downtown and 62 (<40% of the line). And for that section, there is a pair of 3 lane one way roads 1/10th of a mile away for cars to drive on.

Re: Southside - General Topics

I don't want to sound like a monster here, and I certainly don't want to return to a pre-ADA world. And I hope someone will correct me, as I have very limited experience here. But fewer than 6% of Minnesotans have an ambulatory disability. Isn't it in theory reasonable if there is some housing that ...
