Re: Westminster Church

Don't worry, they were just trying to make sure the other sides of the block had something as hideous and anti-urban as the metal fence along 12th St.

Was there any constitutional reason Tina Flint Smith could not have been a U.S. Senator and a Lieutenant Governor simultaneously?

If people are concerned about traffic, why not reconnect France from Minnetonka to Excelsior?

I figured it would have made sense for them to simply move down the street a block to the vacant (and city-owned?) Cooper's Supervalu building. https://goo.gl/maps/Q5pZGAuBA4n

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

People keep talking about space being consumed here... Are people upset about the roundabouts? Or about the loops for the folded diamond interchange? I think the folded diamond is required to maintain ramp spacing between this interchange and the 694 interchange very close to the east.

Re: D Line - Fremont/Emerson/Chicago Rapid Bus

Skip queues work well with signal preemption in places where there's a left or right turn lane. The bus can enter the turn lane and then use it to proceed straight on a special signal.

Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map

I'm guessing there's far more demand for downtown-to-downtown than for the Gold Line itself. So why not through-route a few St. Paul BRT services to Minneapolis? For example, Gold Line, Rush Line, and maybe Red Rock if that ever becomes BRT. All of those services could enter DT St. Paul and proceed ...

Re: City living trends and predictions

Isn't it strange that you always hear about autonomous vehicles as a reason not to invest in transit, but not as a reason to cut back on subsidized on- or off-street car storage? (Let alone a reason to stop building even more car storage!?!?)

The only new ideas are the new Gold Line, the connection of Midtown to Ford
And it's not the first time a Riverview-Midtown through-route has been discussed on the forums. Great ideas that keep coming up.

Re: 930 Hennepin (former National Camera Exchange)

Funny note, that parking lot along 10th is not actually a parcel but rather considered part of a wider street right of way on the property maps. I guess that's needed for trucks to pull in then back down the ramp to the Orpheum docks. It's also weird that the City is therefore liable for what is ess...

Maybe the new park board can hand back some "core functions" to the city, such as maintaining a roadway network and police force.

Hey, at least they tried! Maybe they can retool elsewhere. And maybe the next occupant of this cute little space can learn from the experience. Colossal Cafe seemed to manage from that outpost for probably a decade under two different owners.

The Original On 42nd (at Cedar) closed yesterday after a very short run. Expensive place, but great sandwiches. Wish they could have made it longer.
