Re: Fantasy maps

Since we're in fantasy mode... What if we extended Southwest LRT via existing HCRRA/MnDOT rights-of-way (mostly the old railroad grade to Chaska) with split service to Downtown Chaska and Downtown Shakopee? Those two downtowns are two of the seven county seats in our metro area, and they could relat...

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit

MidtownConnection.jpg If we do end up building the Midtown Corridor LRT/streetcar, I don't think it would be that complicated to connect it to the existing Blue Line viaduct and Lake Street station. I came up with this concept nearly a decade ago: https://drive.google.com/open?id=19D2XlzAaFobvMoeft...

Re: Calhoun Towers - 3430 List Place (295' - 24 stories)

It limits interlining capabilities. A short sighted mistake.

Re: Calhoun Towers - 3430 List Place (295' - 24 stories)

What if there could be some sort of vertical circulation access/easement in Building D from the Lake Street overpass down to the platform level?

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit

This is so good. My only qualm with the preferred alternative map is that it doesn't show a future connection with the C Line at Cedar.

It's too close to (sub)urbanized areas. Even back in the late 80s and early 90s when the Dual Track process was underway, they were studying sites beyond Coates and east of Vermillion... p13 here https://www.leg.state.mn.us/docs/2012/other/120470.pdf But as fantasy as it is to move MSP, it's not act...

They're still in the appeal window, but I can't imagine they'd have any chance of success at that.

It's not actually mixed use. It's "horizontal mixed use."

Re: Eagan, Apple Valley, Burnsville - General Topics

The only transit remotely walkable to this development has four reverse-commute frequencies per day:

But, on a brighter note, the new Costco less than a mile down Vikings Parkway/Blue Gentian is supposedly opening the first week of November.

^which is why I've proposed many times over the years that we eventually create a double-level east-west tunnel under 5th or 6th Streets... One level as a grade-separation of the Blue and Green lines, and a second level as a regional/commuter heavy rail connection between NP #9 bridge and Target Fie...

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail

One thing that needs to happen is to build more of a base in the MSP region for these services rather than relying on individual regions in Greater MN to lobby for their lines.

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

Is Northtown irredeemable from a land use perspective? If you live in the residential neighborhood maybe a block away from the transit center, you have no sidewalk to the transit center and have to cross multiple pedestrian-hostile intersections. Here's someone about to do just that in Streetview: h...

Re: Rochester

There's no such thing as interim parking. Mayo is simply not with the times when it comes to transportation demand management for institutional land uses and large-scale employment centers. They don't even charge employees to park downtown.

Re: Mall of America Transit Station

Right? I keep wondering, if the following were planned in parallel, if it would have just made more sense to move the LRT to the Lindau corridor: - $15.5 million for the Lindau Lane tunnel - $25 million for a transit center - $200 million or more on constructed and future Mall expansion - $100+ mill...

Re: Rochester

Mayo wants to use an old Kmart as a huge park & ride in the middle of a moderately dense, walkable, good neighborhood on the extreme edge of downtown, requiring miles of urban driving for most motorists to take advantage of it. https://www.medcitybeat.com/news-blog/2019/mayo-clinic-employee-parking-...
