Re: Los Angeles

The idea of a gondola seems cool, but wow $125 million for a 2 mile ride. It seems like it wouldn't be a bad walk from Union Station if they created a defined walking path through Chinatown, and then had a series of escalators ascending the hill from where you'd have to cross the 110 freeway. It's a...

Re: High Speed Rail MSP to Rochester

Regarding the idea of going through Red Wing ... the old alignment there was really designed to make the tracks as flat as possible, but it had a considerable number of fairly sharp turns. I used to go flyfishing on Hay Creek a fair amount, and it was fun to see remnants of the old railroad trestle...

Re: High Speed Rail MSP to Rochester

Another option could have been the Milwaukee Road-Canadian Pacific line to Red Wing, then the old CGW grade up Hay Creek to Goodhue, Zumbrota, Pine Island, and then the Douglas Trail to Rochester. Getting back to reality... I like the idea of a St. Paul to Rochester train on existing rails via Owato...

I don't get it either. It seems like - despite massive funding shortfalls - MT is doing things better every year.

Re: Gateway Tower (RBC/Four Seasons) - 37 stories - 503'

I feel like there's gotta be some sort of design somewhere between "Hewing Hotel Load in the Bike Lane" and "Four Seasons Porte Cochere." Why not some sort of pull-out area and curbside loading zone, and then curve the bike lane in towards the development via an easement?

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

I'm guessing "rebuild" likely means "new prime mover." That seems quite common with locomotives, both freight and passenger. Lots of commuter rail systems including Metra and MBTA have used rebuilt engines over the years, oftentimes old EMD chassis/cabs with new or refurbished prime movers, then com...

SO is it just me or is that phase also going to provide additional difficulties for future LRT along the Greenway corridor?

I wonder what the economics are between our commuter trainset with a loco and a few carriages vs DMUs.

Re: San Francisco

Speaking of rail transit in SFO... Is there any reason why they can't rework some of the 10+ lanes of the Bay Bridge for rail? It originally had an interurban network that funneled through Oakland then across the bridge to the Transbay Terminal. Instead of a second BART Transbay Tube, why not put ra...

I hope this is someday adjusted to operate as Arterial BRT from 13/Nicollet south on Nicollet to Burnsville Center. As ABRT, it could serve BVTS, HOC P&R, Burnsville Civic Center, McAndrews Road/Ridges Campus, County 42/Nicollet, then Burnsville Mall/ "Center Village." The Travelers Trail/Burnsville...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project

Those concerns about the Orange Line at BVTS seem to make the assumption that Orange Line and 460 riders are distinct populations. Whereas transit services work together in an ecosystem to support different trips at different times. If the Orange Line served the existing transit stations, then the O...
