Re: Shakopee - Savage - Prior Lake - Scott County
Pretty offensive conduct, imo. https://sahanjournal.com/housing/shakopee-city-officials-prairie-pointe-development-beacon-affordable-housing/ Plus, the usual NIMBYs losing their minds at the prospect of living near anyone who makes less money. One imagines a Semisonic parody: "Suburb time / Yo...

Re: Future of Graco campus - St. Anthony West
Perhaps Tokyo, Seoul, or Singapore could provide some insights into how manufacturing is done in dense urban areas. I recall reading that Tokyo's zoning model (and maybe Japanese practice as a whole?) was to assign intensity levels to each kind of use, then zone areas for a maximum intensity level ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
Is it? It feels like going out to a restaurant is a direct contradiction to the official medical/epidemiological advice. It's a virus, not omnipresent radioactivity. It still requires an exposure. By maintaining more than the CDC-recommended physical distance, one renders that necessary exposure ev...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
This is sort of the issue with the speed limits and signal cycles: they don't seem to match. For example downtown is 30mph, but if you're driving north on 3rd Ave starting from 11th all of the lights are timed for 35-40mph almost all the way to the LRT. So either you speed or wait for 6 more reds t...

Saw a couple of people scooting in Minneapolis yesterday, but I was biking the opposite direction and didn't get a long enough glance to see if there were commercial logos (vs. private ownership).

Re: Northside - General Topics
Weird how development and crime can co-exist. It's true, isn't it? I've long suspected that frenetic news coverage of Crime™ is just a tool aimed at playing to the anxieties of a rich suburban demographic and/or inducing them to move farther and farther out to ever-more-unsustainable exurban distan...

Re: Roseville / Rosedale - General Topics
I've long been curious about the economics of dedicated 55+ housing. It seems like there is more of it around than there is demand for it, especially relative to market rate apartments, but I could be wrong on that. My perception has been that, with a recent exception in Hermantown, this is the kin...

Re: Former West Publishing / County Jail development site
Like almost all major cities nationwide, our compact and sustainable cores got sprawled out into oblivion, and it's going to take a while to get that genie back in the bottle. In the meantime, we do have to find a way of getting farther-out populations into the central cities, in order to help them ...
