Re: Saint Paul - General Topics
Rezoning for a 40+ unit residential building with commercial space proposed for the north side of Saint Clair at Ayd Mill was approved by the Saint Paul Planning Commission on Friday. Been watching this parcel for a while, so looking forward to details once available. https://www.myvillager.com/news...

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn
Referring to Didier's image of the six finalists, my favorite by far is the top left, and I wouldn't mind the top center or bottom right, but the others? The top right looks like it might be the flag for some small African nation that I can't quite remember. If the shape on the left is supposed to s...

Tuesday Morning will be closing at the Har Mar location and Excelsior location. Pretty big blow for a place like Har Mar that already has a lot of vacancies. Har Mar has a lot of vacancies in terms of storefront count, but most open spaces are small, interior-facing only. In terms of square footage...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Does anybody know what the status is of the southern end of the Gateway Trail? Has the state just abandoned it? In recent years I have been picking up the trail at Wheelock, but today I tried venturing farther south, picking up the trail behind the abandoned KMart. Yikes. I am an experienced urban b...

It's the north side of Marshall, midway between Snelling and Pascal. Don't even look at that aerial image. It's giving me a headache.

Re: Allianz Field and Snelling-Midway Development
So we may be taking a step backwards in terms of the quality of development we are seeing in the area surrounding Allianz Field. Taco Bell franchisee Border Foods is making a third attempt to rebuild their Snelling Ave. location after twice being rejected by the city. This time, they are going with ...

A couple of new banners have shown up at Malcolm Yards pushing their website: https://malcolmyards.market/
They seem to have taken the brick walls down quite a ways. If I didn't know the intentions behind the project, I would think that the building's shell was doomed.

Fairview & University Developments
We now have two projects in the pipeline around the Fairview station: Reuter Walton's proposal for a two building, 279 unit affordable housing project on the northwest corner of the Fairview/Uni intersection (Goodwill site). This one was quite a disappointment when it was proposed as a single use pr...

On the flip side, it has avoided half a century of traffic load and road salt, so it might not need much attention beyond the deck. Regardless, I am thrilled and shocked that we can actually be having these discussions after all these years!

The demo permit has been issued and fencing is up at the Bremer Bank building. Looking forward to seeing construction underway on two corners of the Snelling-Shields intersection. Something to watch while we wait (and wait, and wait...) for plans to materialize across the street!

Several variances have been applied for related to the building at 2225 University (former offices of Paster Properties): Conditional use permit to increase maximum height from 50 feet to 58 feet, parking variance (147 spaces required, 90 proposed), variance of minimum percentage of first floor devo...

It looks like the Herberger's building has sold, and (I am a bit surprised) not to Kraus Anderson like the rest of Midway Marketplace. Instead, it was bought by RD Management/Rick Birdoff. On top of that, KA is showing the Walmart building as available for lease, so I wouldn't expect any imminent de...

I think the biggest challenge Kowalski's will face at this site is accessibility. Back when there was a Rainbow in the current Best Buy space at Crossroads Center, it just didn't seem worth waiting in traffic and battling Best Buy and Kohl's shoppers to get to a grocery store when there were several...

Nothing but crickets chirping on that parcel for years. I don't quite get it... if the "snow pile" site on Lexington can draw market rate residential, it seems that this lot in front of a successful Target store should be able to draw some sort of attention for a mixed-use project. Unfortu...

From permit activity, it looks like "Ding Tea" is going to open in Hamline Station. Likely a franchise location of a Taiwanese bubble tea chain that seems to have a growing U.S. presence. It will be good to see one more of the retail spaces here occupied. I have yet to make it to Magic Noo...

The latest Monitor has an article about the status of "The Pitch" project on the Bremer Bank site. The high water table is driving a pretty significant reduction in parking spaces.

The Pioneer Press is reporting that Mac's Fish and Chips has closed their location on Snelling. No details on the reason, but the article notes that the location had been open for two and a half years... and somehow, I never got around to stopping in! https://www.twincities.com/2019/12/06/macs-fish-...
