FWIW, a shortened version of 200 Central showed up on the HPC agenda for next week.

Gonna be nuts to see how much Ward 3 shrinks in physical area after the next round of redistricting.

Re: Minneapolis City Planning Commission

Thanks for the stats!

I do also think that 2018s stats were artificially high - seemed like a lot of stuff got rushed through in December to beat the previous round of IZ that really wasn't ready to go yet, as evidenced by it not having started yet, or just starting recently.

Re: Zoning in Minneapolis

An important thing to remember is that Jim Buchta has written an article announcing that developers are done building apartments in Minneapolis and are shifting to the suburbs every six months like clockwork for, what, like five or six years now? That being said, I do expect IZ to affect the market,...

It is genuinely extremely difficult to find buildings suitable for conversion into shelter, especially this kind of long-term shelter. I strongly believe this is less a conspiracy to concentrate poverty and more the result of an availability that met Catholic Charities' needs (close to transit, clo...

I'm afraid the streetcar is on hold until Hennepin County remembers that they're able to fund transit that doesn't run out to second-ring suburbs.

Spoonriver is closing in December , to be replaced in 2020 with a new restaurant run by a partnership between the Birchwood Cafe and the Minnesota Farmers Union. Additionally, the DMNA agenda for next week includes a liquor license presentation for an unnamed restaurant at 575 Hennepin Avenue - the ...

Re: The Once and Future Dayton's

In addition to the Walgreens, Gaviidae stays pretty busy on weekends with people going to and from the YMCA. Maybe not the likeliest crowd to stop off to do some quick shopping, but it's still something. I'm fairly hopeful that Dayton's will be the kick that gets other DT retailers/restaurateurs to ...

From the Bizjournal: For the immediate future, Hillcrest will use the property as additional parking for its Highlight Center, but will need to do some brainstorming on its long-term future. The five-story, 115,000-square-foot building, Tankenoff said, has been expanded several times over the years ...

Yes, this was approved by the CPC at the end of September. Based on previous projects proposed for public parking parcels, the first indication that it's moving will be a sign on the paybox informing us that the lot will be closing in a few weeks. I haven't seen one of those yet, so I doubt this wil...

You should ask how they're reconciling their station spacing guidelines with having three separate stops at Nicollet, 35W, and 4th Ave S. Nicollet and 35W are only an eighth of a mile apart!

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

The Dec. 7th quarterly service changes have been posted to the website . Notable changes I see: They finally spent some time fine-tuning the signals on 5th St to stop trains less, so the Blue and Green Lines are now scheduled to take seven minutes to get between Target Field and USBank Stadium, down...

I believe that Royalston Station will be a stop once the C Line moves to Glenwood, when the Blue Line goes into service along Penn, though it's unclear to me what'll happen if it gets delayed indefinitely or moved to a different alignment. For the wheelchair issue, did you happen to see if it was a ...

So, is it intended behavior that cars can use the bus lane to get to parking spots? If so, that's... remarkably dumb.

I did always get a kick out of how they put up the faux-marble dragon head above the door as part of the Chinese decorations for Ling and Louie's, then never bothered to take it down for the new iterations.

Not that I'm religiously checking every day to see if permits have been pulled or anything, but the previously existing parcels, 240 Hennepin and 258 Hennepin, have disappeared from the city's property info tool and been replaced by a newly combined 250 Hennepin parcel. No permits are showing up yet...

Re: East 38th Street & 38th St Station Development

There's no official limitation on height due to nearby power lines. Habitable structures can't be built at all in the actual right of way (with some exceptions, like the skyway between the Graco buildings south of Broadway), but you can build as tall as you want right up to the edge. There's a simil...
