Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

Really? I didn't realize they were doing anything to the garage levels.

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, there's a rooftop patio image that appears to be shot from the Copham or the Loose-Wiles building.

Re: New City of Minneapolis Office Building

Yeah, there were several pictures of Harpa during the presentation. Not that the city has pre-financial-crash Iceland money, but I'm confident that this'll be an impressive building.

Re: New City of Minneapolis Office Building

Mostly a public input meeting tonight, but they did have some preliminary plans to share:

Skyway Level layout:

And a massing image that I took a remarkably blurry pic of:

There is a deal in place to sell the Solera building.
On the one hand, there's a new lounge opening up in the Solera space, which is unambiguously better than an empty storefront.

On the other hand... It's gonna be a Jack Links.

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

I went with the Streets.mn group, taking the morning train up to Big Lake, hanging out at Lupilin Brewing for a while, then taking the holiday train all the way to SPUD. It was a good time, and was cool to see two trains at once sitting at the SPUD platform.

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar

My impression was always that the Nicollet Mall reconstruction was quietly laying (very literal) groundwork for eventually building a streetcar on top. Although now that I think about it, I don't really remember where I got that impression. Politics aside, does anyone know how the reconstruction af...

Re: Thrivent Headquarters Block - 4th Ave and 6th St (existing building and new parking ramp)

I split off the discussion of the new headquarters building to its own thread . Fantasy time: now that Hennepin County has a whole new office tower's worth of space, what if they brought some of their traffic engineers downtown so they actually had a chance to use some of the city streets they desig...

Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics

Right. Like, a hotel makes perfect sense to have in Uptown, but it makes more sense to build it where it is two blocks from the Uptown center of gravity than it would have to put it at, say, 32nd and Colfax. Likewise, a hotel proposal at 2nd and University wouldn't get a raised eyebrow from me, but ...

Re: Thrivent's Surface Parking Lots

They mentioned that they've been working with HCMC on the skyway connection, so HCMC must have at least preliminary plans for what they want to do with that lot.

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project

Ah, that makes sense. My biggest concern for the Dayton's project is that they went to Mid-America for the retail leasing, with their proven record of being totally unable to find tenants for ground-level Nicollet Mall spaces.

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project

As far as the big retail space in Ren Square by the station, the "For Lease" posters came down a few weeks ago, and it's no longer listed on MidAmerica's website. So either something's happening there, or the building owner has given up and is content to let it sit empty forever.

Re: New City of Minneapolis Office Building

I'm optimistic on that score. The architect presenting mentioned a few times that the city is focused on it being a 50-100 year asset, and being connected to the city and the public realm.

Re: Thrivent's Surface Parking Lots

Thrivent presentation happening now. The building will be on the northern half-block, preserving the southern half-block for future development. They're hoping to get a partner to develop that space at the same time or shortly thereafter, so they can do a K-A style shared underground parking garage....

Update: the closing on the ramp swap is in two weeks, and demo of the ramp is scheduled for June. There's an public meeting about it at the Mill City Museum next Monday. Doors at 5, presentation at 5:30. There will be design concepts there. Tidbits they have so far: - 9-10 stories, 250-300ksf - inte...

Re: 800 Washington Ave S (Guthrie Ramp liner parcel)

A woman from CPED is giving an update to the DMNA. A new RFP will be coming out in the first quarter of 2018. There was a public meeting a few weeks ago for the city to get feedback on what the neighborhood wants, and the answer was, unsurprisingly, condos. (And an Apple store, apparently). It sound...
