Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory

Did the condos behind grab any air rights? Nope. They're apparently very concerned about the prospect of their views being blocked, though I personally am not sure what would pencil out to be built here. The 2040 plan minimum is six stories, but it's only a 0.22 acre site - I can't think of a six-s...

Don't know when this happened, but as of yesterday the two one-story buildings have been removed, there's just foundation slabs where they were.

Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory

That's my feeling too. I guess you could convert it into a more normal restaurant space, but that would be a complete remodel - the building is currently 80% kitchen. I guess if someone's looking to make a longer-term play, a fancy ice cream shop nestled in between expensive condos and regional park...

Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory

Izzy's has put their building up for sale.

Steve Fletcher had some background to share with the DMNA - it sounds like this is a debt loading issue, not so much a "they're about to go under" issue. They'd apparently be happy to stay on as a tenant, if the new owner is amenable.

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and Intercity Rail to Chicago

This was a couple years ago now, but when I read through the report, my understanding was that MSP-Chicago is the outer edge of what can be done in a single crew shift, and going to St Cloud would require a crew change in Winona (why there specifically, idk). Since there's not a BNSF base in Winona,...

Re: University of Minnesota - General Topics

In "University continues to gobble up the East Bank because, hey, why not?" news, the owner of the five-building Classic City Apartments complex at Huron and Essex has been marketing it nationally for sale, and the U, concerned that it's zoned Transit 30 and thus might get a significant development,...

Re: 2841 Hennepin - Old Chicago Boneyard Game Salsa a la Salsa Lotus Piggy Bank

Yeah, that sounds... okay. I wasn't expecting anything too wild in These Troubled Times, but a 10-11 story residential building seemed possible. If it pencils way back against the railroad tracks in Dinkytown, seems like it could pencil on Hennepin right next to the Greenway.

Passed unanimously, in a crushing blow to Stonebridge residents' right to have a directly sunlit pool deck at 3pm on March 21st.

This was just passed unanimously by the CPC - hopefully they get their issues with the Twins worked out and can still swing financing to start in August as rhettcarlson found out that they were planning to upthread.

It is honestly gobsmacking how bad of a job the MPRB is doing with the parkway closure messaging.

This is on the agenda for next Monday's meeting of the CPC, after being on the agenda for the last two cycles and being continued both times. Here's the packet . Based on the last few letters included in the packet, it looks like the Twins and the Minnesota Ballpark authority have been the holdup, w...

Re: 200 12th Ave S - Reuter Walton - 12 Stories / 130'

Yeah, that's a recurring theme in the neighborhood. I'm always glad when more people are moving downtown, but I have no idea why this neighborhood around Gold Medal Park specifically filled up with people that thought they would be able to live downtown and still be able to drive absolutely everywhe...

Re: 200 12th Ave S

This came back to the DMNA tonight, as the developer has decided to add an additional floor, with 16 more units, but no more parking stalls. I did not think to ask whether, as implied by the article above, this means they had to switch the whole building over to concrete construction. Here's the CPC...

That... was certainly an event. The fun part was when we ended the meeting, waited five minutes, and tried the same un-passworded meeting link again.

It didn't go better the second time.

Also, the CPC packet was posted to the DMNA site.

Re: Thrivent Headquarters Block - 6th St and Portland Ave

Sherman presented an update to the DMNA tonight. It seems the CPC did hold the line on the height minimum, so the updated plan looks to be exactly the same as in the CoW packet linked above, with the addition of two additional residential floors and 45 units, but no more parking. They're up to 240 u...

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Development Site -25 stories / 294'

The developer came back to the DMNA with an update. No major changes that would necessitate coming back to the CPC, but the 1ksf space on the ground floor closest to the stadium is now intended to be retail instead of a scooter charging room. They have secured an equity partner and are intending to ...

Here's a (locked) Bizjournals article on the proposal. They interviewed the Wilderness Inquiry founder, who says they've been struggling with a lack of storage space, so it's been time to move for a while.

Re: 800 15th Ave SE - 800 15th Ave SE - 12 Stories - 131'

I split this off into it's own thread, fyi.

Very impressive, and, unlike the McDonald's redevelopment, the height is allowed by-right in the 2040 Plan, so the neighborhood shouldn't be able to whine it into oblivion.

Hope Metro Transit's Network Next plan includes a Rt 3 BRT line when it comes out.
