Re: City of Minneapolis Office Building - 501 4th Ave S - 11 stories / 171'

Since they say they need 170(!) parking spaces, I've gotta imagine they'd be tearing down and rebuilding on part of the PSC/CoL sites. Getting those properties back on the tax rolls was specifically part of the plan for the new office building, so hopefully they're looking at a mixed-use PUD like th...

Re: Downtown Hotel News

I'm certainly not in the industry, but I don't think tourism really has all that much to do with downtown hotel occupancy, in this or the majority of other cities.

(Outside of sporting events, obviously)

Yeah, I was assuming this had died after eight months of no news. Hopefully they can get started soon and stay aligned with the Hennepin reconstruction.

Re: Renaissance Square / The Andrus

Heard from the DMNA coordinator that the variance was denied. So that's a relief. Hopefully they don't even bother appealing, and instead just temper their expectations and figure out how to get the space filled.

Yeah, between the Portland Tower and HQ, it was down to two lanes for two years, and everything was fine.

Re: East End / Thresher Square / Trader Joes - 713 Washington Ave S

Sherman declined to renew their lease, so they can instead renovate the building to bring in the Pinstripes they've been pitching in various RFPs for the past couple years . It is unfortunate, but that's business, I guess. At the same time, if they want to come back, there's certainly no shortage of...

Does anyone know what happened with this? The boards and committees page hasn't been updated with actions taken for anything more recent than the 8/5 CPC meeting.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

I'm not sure if you can do it in Google Maps, but if you use the full desktop version of Google Earth, there's a timeline where you can look back at aerial photos going back quite a ways.

Wait, you're saying retailers would prefer not to locate a store in a high traffic area for loss prevention reasons?

Man, I just have no head for business at all.

Eh, I figured Arc'teryx only moved in to take advantage of the clustering effect with North Face and Columbia, so I expected them to be gone soon after the other two closed.

Re: Renaissance Square / The Andrus

Huh. The staff report says they're asking for a variance from both the 60% retail floor area and 60% retail frontage, but their narrative says they're just asking for a variance on the floor area. I don't know if that's actually their plan, or if they're just being unclear. I wouldn't actually care ...

Re: City Center

I'm hoping they're all on the ground floor, and they're breaking that spot into three rather than continuing to hope for a downsized big box to come in and not fail right away. I'm wondering what the plan is with the patio on the second floor. It's a cool idea, but isn't that whole corner filled wit...

JLL commits to moving from PWC Plaza to the RBC Gateway. (Locked). Is it too late to add a couple more floors of spec office?

(I know that the answer is yes.)

I mean, you can go see it though, right? People aren't, like, covering up the sculpture itself.
