Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

Me too. I've also only seen one person on the socials that is saying they straight up won't vote for Walz/Flanagan, which is less than I expected from the rhetoric flying around Monday and Tuesday. Re: his stance on coal: I don't actually care about his, or any MN Gubernatorial candidate's, stance o...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

If the lesson uber-progressives learned from 2016 is that throwing a fit and voting third party because the most progressive Dem didn't make it onto the ticket is the way to go, we deserve Johnson.

Re: West Elm Hotel & Condos - 102-120 1st Street N

I'm happy to see only one vehicle access point, and from Azine instead of 1st, even! Not as thrilled that it's a 1.55 parking ratio, but whatever, I guess.

Re: Nicollet Mall

Yeah, even if they're lightly used, there's definitely some people that take the sidewalk through the tunnel. So, ramp up and down on the west side of LaSalle, and leave the east side as is, which then maintains access to the condo building and hotel garage entrances. As far as the protected bike la...

Re: Malcolm Yards Phase One (food hall, apartment buildings, grocery store)

This'll be big - it's worth its own topic. Has anyone heard anything about what grocery it would be? 33k square feet is kind of a weird size - too big for an Aldi or Trader Joe's (not that another Trader Joe's would happen in Minneapolis, as they would have to sacrifice the liquor store) but too sma...

Re: 200 Central - Alatus Tower (Washburn-McReavy Site) 483' / 40 Stories

Good to hear that they're still going to be able to make it work despite the delays and tariffs. Also an indicator of the disingenuousness of the eternal "neighbors have parking concerns" refrain, if the neighborhood group is still bringing it up for this building with just barely less than two spac...

Updated renderings from CPC: http://minneapolismn.gov/www/groups/public/@cped/documents/webcontent/wcmsp-213092.pdf Somehow recommended for approval by staff. They're proposing a nine story project in a zone that allows 10 stories by right, asking for no variances or CUPs except for the loading zon...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Atomic Data will be moving their North Loop office to a larger space in Marquette Plaza. (locked) The lead is about parking concerns in the North Loop, but I suspect this is really more about having room to grow and consolidating their DT Minneapolis operations, as they've had their data center in ...

Re: OX-OP Gallery and Residences.

They showed updated images to the DMNA on Monday, with a less clashy color scheme and a different balcony design. Hard to say why that didn't make it into the CPC packet. We'll see, I guess.

Re: Harlem Irving and CA Ventures - 240 Hennepin Ave - 18-20 stories

As I understood it, their original plan was for a 16-18 story tower without setbacks. Then the city planner suggested that a taller, narrower building would go over better, so it gained two stories and the setbacks. At that point, they shifted the mass of the tower south as far as possible to maximi...

Still the tetris shape that wraps around Day Block and it's parking lot on one side and the B&S auxiliary lot on the other, yeah.

Plus, y'know, I'd hope this location would be open later than 8pm. Sure seems like downtown should be able to support one 24-hour convenience store.

Re: 240 Park Ave S - Zygi's Apartments

"This is too tall, we aren't downtown!" Please tell me that's a comical exaggeration and somebody who lives in downtown seriously didn't try to argue that the Mill District isn't part of downtown. Noooooope. Direct quote. But, Anondson is correct. There's absolutely no way this wouldn't pass the CP...

Re: Gateway Tower (RBC Plaza Jr.) - 30 stories - 458'

Yeah, it's a thorny problem. I agree in principle that I'd much prefer to have no vehicle crossings of the bike lane, but at the same time, that's going to be the front door of the (fancy) hotel, so a pair of vehicle crossings are preferable to continually having taxis and Ubers and car services sto...

Re: Gateway Tower (RBC Plaza Jr.) - 30 stories - 458'

The city (public works, planning commission, bicycle advisory committee, CM Fletcher, etc) don't like the idea of two new vehicle conflict points being added to the sidewalk and bikeway immediately after the project to get rid of as many of them as possible is completed. My read on it, though, is th...

Re: Harlem Irving and CA Ventures - 240 Hennepin Ave - 18-20 stories

There was a presentation to the DMNA tonight. No renderings beyond massing diagrams, but it sounds like they're paying a lot of attention to the boundary between the glassy towers of downtown and the brick of the warehouse district, so I'm optimistic. The tower, while running the length of the block...

Re: 800 Washington Ave S (Guthrie Ramp liner development: Reloaded)

A representative from the city gave the DMNA an update tonight. Apparently neither office proposal even meets the RFP requirements, as both offer less than Fair Market Value for the land, and neither includes retail as required. So they're out. As for the other two, the Sherman proposal meets the re...

Re: 240 Park Ave S - Zygi's Apartments

Garden Communities gave the DMNA an update tonight. No new beyond what's been in the media, really, but literally half the residents of the adjacent American Trio Lofts were there to whine about their lost views. It was the full south Minneapolis experience. "What about my views?"" "What about our s...
