Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

Wonderful!

Agreed that it seems to have a few too many windows for the old DA vibe, but I guess covering up the windows would both fix that and make the space fit in with the rest of the mall... ;)

Re: 10th & Marquette Handicraft Building Development

Damn it. I moved into The Metro Apartments (9th and Marquette) a year and a half ago, hoping I'd get to watch this go up from my south-facing window. I moved out last month, assuming it was gone forever. Alas. Good to see it's still alive, even if it's a little frustrating that it shrank. ETA: WTF? ...

Overall low quality buildout compared to the DT Mpls one.
And the Nicollet Mall one was disappointing compared to what they originally hyped it as. Ouch. Very excited to check this out next time I'm in the area.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

Apparently these guys are feeling pretty confident in their lawyers. The guys opening the Downtown Waffle House (not affiliated with the Waffle House) are also opening a nightclub called Maxim Playhouse (not affiliated with Maxim the magazine) in the old Army Surplus store at 4th and 1st and a west...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

Seems like they're asking for a legal smackdown, but I guess QuikTrip and Kwik Trip have stores much closer together than the 400 miles this will be from the nearest Waffle House.

I prefer to know that the temporary scaffolding suspending 600 pounds of lighting 30 feet above my head was assembled by skilled technicians, not just some guys off the street, but maybe that's just me.

Hopefully they take another pass at light timing after the Super Bowl. 8th St was the worst, like Grant mentioned, but 4th and 6th have the same problem to a lesser degree.

Re: Minneapolis Armory

The union in question is the stagehands union, who would be doing the setup and teardown of each show. Not having a union would be preventing them from getting fair wages, as Ned Abdul is specifically advertising that shows at the Armory can pay the stagehands less than a show at the Orpheum or wher...

Re: Ritz Residences - 365 Nicollet Mall (334' - 30 stories)

I agree, but the whole 'haven't been able to secure financing, despite having had been working on it for like three years' seems to show that there's a flaw somewhere.

Re: Stillwater Development News

Lift Bridge Brewing is building a new $10M HQ in Stillwater . (Locked) Apparently it will be about 30,000 square feet and include a taproom, event space, and brewhouse. The article doesn't specify where they'd be building, but they expect construction to begin this summer, so they must have a site ...

Re: Ritz Residences - 365 Nicollet Mall (334' - 30 stories)

Me, I'm hoping for them to go with Ryan's Block 1 proposal next to the stadium. That's a perfectly acceptable tower height for that area, plus, y'know, covers up the parking ramp.

Could be. There's even precedent, with the University's Stream Lab on Hennepin Island.

Re: Doran/General Mills Development - 215 2nd St SE (284' - 26 Stories)

Here's the CPC packet.

Looks like the biggest change is the addition of a 3176 sq ft retail space on the University and 3rd corner. Additionally, it lost two apartment units and 27 parking spaces. Architecturally, no big changes.

Yeah, I was suspicious of the 'too much competition' excuse. The downtown one was always fairly full as well.

I haven't wiped out on the concrete yet this winter, which is something it has going for it. The granite was very pretty, but wasn't really safe since they abandoned the heated sidewalk system.

Fixology Repair disappeared, leaving a note on their door that they're moving to a (apparently secret) bigger and better space downtown. This makes RBC Plaza the only skyway-connected building I can think of with a fully-leased street level and multiple vacant bays on the skyway level. Fixology is ...

Re: Opus North Loop Apartments on W river parkway

One of the photos in the packet showed the substation across Plymouth Avenue from this project. I looked It up one Google maps and realized this is unfortunately taking up a lot of nice land right on the river. Yeah. It does at least have a textured concrete wall instead of chain link fence on the ...
