Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

CM Fletcher told the DMNA annual meeting last night that he's been lobbying Metro Transit (and thinks he's close to succeeding) to reroute the 7 through downtown so it goes straight down Washington from Seven Corners to the North Loop, instead of swinging down to 4th for no discernable reason.

Great! Steve Fletcher mentioned at the DMNA meeting last night that he's working with Ryan/Arcadia to get a couple units to be affordable via the City of Lakes Land Trust.

It's the city forcing the streetcar allowance, though, not just something UP is doing on their own.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

I feel like the 16 and the 84 should have been the first to go when they started having driver shortages, and even now, they should just bite the bullet and kill the routes entirely.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

Good. That was perplexing me a couple months ago, when they announced a partnership with Xcel to move towards electrification, then immediately announced an order for not-electric buses. It strikes me that that's a small silver lining with the D Line delay - by the time we get around to ordering bus...

Gotta artificially drive usage of Union Depot so we can pretend the quarter billion dollars spent to restore it for two trains a day was worth it.

Re: Roof Depot site

Huh. I've seen the "Minneapolis Waterworks" sign across Hennepin from HeadFlyer, but assumed it was a ghost sign. Didn't realize it was the main water maintenance facility for the city. Also, holy crap do we need to get E Hennepin road dieted soon, before the fire station moves and all of a sudden w...

And, on the opposite corner of that block: 801 Steakhouse to open in former BN space. Not as good as having a full-range bookstore downtown was, but it fills one of the big empty spaces on Nicollet.

So does "MPRB Parcel D" become an extension of Graco Park, or is the MPRB going to sell it for private development?

My hope is that when the various bridges get a complete rebuild, on-line stations similar to 46th St will be built into them. Those are all decades away, though.
Our record isn't too good on this... When will we be getting Orange Line stations at Franklin or 38th St?

Re: 365 Nicollet (334' - 30 stories)

The public skyway to 365 Nicollet through the new Xcel Energy building will open Monday, October 1st. Hours of operation will be 6am-8pm M-Th, 6am-10pm F, 9:30am-8pm Sa, and 12pm-6pm Su. I thought something in the new skyway ordinance passed a couple years ago required new skyways to meet or exceed ...
