Re: Twin Cities to Eau Claire regional rail

Well, assuming a 90 minute trip (allowing for some delay) and a 30 minute dwell time at each end (to make the math easy), they could do four round trips with the first departure at 6am and the last arrival at 9:30pm. Cut it closer with a 80 minute scheduled trip and a 20 minute dwell time and you ca...

Re: Twin Cities to Eau Claire regional rail

Yeah, 80 miles of new tracks are a lot more capital intensive than just a trainset and three stations. I'm assuming it would be a single track for the passenger rail, and that's the rationale for just two round trips per day - one trainset running back and forth, never having to worry about passing.

What are the chances the u could acquire the unused Huron right of way? Or that the city lets then build on it?
According to the tax maps, the curved part of Huron and the adjacent tracks are owned by the U, so I could see a land swap happening there.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

Does anyone have any idea why the moving of northbound Route 14 from 4th St to 7th St didn't end up happening?

Re: Twin Cities to Eau Claire regional rail

Cool. The majority of the 85-mile route is owned by Union Pacific Corp., and an agreement would be needed to share the corridor with its freight trains. But unlike the Northstar Commuter Rail between Minneapolis and Big Lake, which shares tracks and prioritizes freight traffic, the Eau Claire passen...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar

There's a portion on W. 7th (around Smith Ave, I believe) that will run in mixed traffic, since the neighborhood refuses to give up their precious street parking.

They closed the lot to parking, so I imagine this is the real start of construction. Probably won't look like much for a while, though, while they prep stuff and drive piles.

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar

Frey has called it dead, and yet is touting it a bit. The environmental review conducted by URS is being amended at this coming TP&W meeting. So we know that the Nicollet Hotel block was bought with federal transit money, and one of the requirements is that the block is used for a transit purpose, ...

As far as the Nicollet-Central Streetcar goes, I'm pretty sure it's dead, but just hasn't stopped moving yet.

Yeah. As long as there's no taxpayer money involved, then it's fine, but there's no way this gets built for less than $10B, or can be operated for $1 a ride.

So weird that there's not a speck of Trader Joe's signage yet, or even a "Coming Soon" sign in the window.

Is removing 18MW of renewable energy capacity really something we want to do? It's not a huge amount compared to, say, a full-scale wind farm, but still.

Looks like it. The decorative lighting feature surrounds the rooftop equipment and is about 50' tall, then the spire (also lit) is another 58' taller than that. It's not clear whether they're actual video boards like Target and the Guthrie, or if they're color washes like the 35W bridge, etc.

Yeah, as much as I hate that the "one per year" cadence has dropped to "one every three years maybe", it definitely makes sense to delay the station construction to coordinate with full street rebuilds where possible.
