Re: Downtown Minneapolis Macy's Building

Now that Macy's decade-and-change occupation of 700 Nicollet is (finally) over, can't we go back to referring to the building by its rightful name? After all, it was Dayton's for nearly a century.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Macy's Building

Here's a good example of the web-is-killing-department-stores meme, from a recent Business of Fashion article: "As one American designer with more than $100 million in annual revenue told BoF, 'Ten years ago, you needed a major department store to be successful. Now, you need Instagram.'

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Macy's Building

Macy's is closing 100 stores. When the company recently released a list of its top 150 performers, the only Minnesota locations on the list were Southdale, Ridgedale and Mall of America. 700 Nicollet was conspicuously absent from the list, despite a number of other downtown locations (Manhattan, Chi...

West Elm? A North Loop pal tells me that a developer has gobbled up a good portion of the block that's also shared by the former Theater de la Jeune Lune (I forget what it's called now). It's the part of the block that stretches from JetSet to the Foundry. They're preserving the old buildings, demol...
