Re: Subsidized Housing
I apologize for interrupting the second half of this semester of SOC 1001, but here are some pictures of what low-income housing in Manhattan looked like a couple decades before my grandparents got there: This. I can't believe we have to routinely remind people of the consequences of allowing "...

Re: Subsidized Housing
But you could in a private school provide a different type of education to someone with older text books, desks and different classes IF they were paying less than your other students... because that's what the different customers bought and paid for. I'm honestly not sure they could do that. The l...

Re: Subsidized Housing
It's not because in the case of education and public water fountains these are public services provided by the government, meant for everyone. Housing is a good to be purchased by a consumer. each consumer has the right to buy what they can afford. If you can't afford a high end apartment in Manhat...

Re: 2014 MN House Election
I would strongly support (a small number of) mandatory paid sick days for those working at least 20 hours/week (over age 18, etc. with other limitations/provisions for new hires and such, just like the recently enacted min. wage laws). Definitely. Maybe better to make a sliding scale rather than ha...

Re: Subsidized Housing
What you're ignoring is that hundreds of other projects across the country have been able to mix low-income and luxury development in a single project without the "poor door". This isn't about making the project financially viable as you insistently pretend, it's about keeping "the po...

Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
That's what I'm saying, it's a private investor building. they could either build all market rate and make their money, and someone else could build low income on the outskirts where land is cheaper, or the private investor can take advantage of programs... what's more discriminatory to you? it cou...

Re: "C Line" Penn Avenue Arterial Bus
Why would we build BRT stations on Olson when an LRT is going to be there by 2020? It's completely idiotic to spend money on those stations and exactly duplicate LRT service. In fairness, it doesn't exactly duplicate it; it has more frequent stops on Olson, and takes riders to 8th Street rather tha...

Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
Because the government and the people have an interest in preventing injustice, particularly in projects financed by tax credits? How about we let the market dictate whether this works. If it does work, developers will keep building them. If it doesnt, they wont. Simple.

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)
I just can't figure out a good reason *not* to fast track this first extension to Penn. Because you'd have to pay to hire/rent the men and equipment twice; once when we did the tiny extension, and later (potentially significantly later) when you did the rest. Wouldn't the added costs you cite be sa...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Seems like it would be relatively simple to transform the bike lanes + parking on Blaisdell/1st into parking-protected bike lanes. You'd have to get rid of some spots to allow for right turn lanes at a couple key intersections, but it'd mostly be changing the painted lines on the road.

I had a picture of that thing open at work. Someone looked over my shoulder and asked if I was looking into becoming homeless.
I honestly think they're a pretty good idea, but they definitely have an image problem.

I thought this site was for discussing architecture, development, and infrastructure of the Twin Cities? Not birds.... We know many people are for and against the fritted glass, but how about this isn't brought up again until the glass is being installed!! In other news, the second steel piece on t...

Most seem to get on at Nicollet (same as me) though the trains aren't empty then either; some get on at Government Plaza, maybe because of Marq2.

The open-faced sandwiches are delicious, too. Heard they have a different gravy for each meat.

From the wiki on them. Also they were hunted and used in war. The lost one died in a zoo. A zoo. In 1914, how many large glass buildings were towering in the city in 1914? Not very many, just a lot of windows in towers. The point really flew over your head here, didn't it? ;) I'm not saying the pas...

Thank god we're all experts on the Internet, so we can just call the Audubon Society, one of the most respected environmental organizations in the country, crazy.
