Re: Amazon's New HQ?

Minnesota’s bid will be “restrained,” Dayton says. http://www.startribune.com/gov-mark-dayton-says-state-of-minnesota-s-amazon-hq-bid-to-be-restrained/444027563/ Probably good news for people against the proposal (and other cities that want it). Golly gee, no conflict of interest here. It's not lik...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

This project is gift that just keeps on giving...to transit opponents that is. At this point it seems like the supporters of this project as-is only do so to keep opponents from getting a win. All the delays, overruns, and problems with this line have set back mass transit support in this city damn ...

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

What do we have to gain? How about what do we have to lose? Amazon is the company that will in all likelihood put Target and Best Buy out of business. No matter where HQ2 ends up we're staring down the barrel of losing tens of thousands of corporate headquarters jobs sometime in the near future. I u...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

50,000 employees and 8M+ square feet is far larger than any single building in this state (Think 10 times the size of the WF project). It's going to have to be a multiple building complex. Really, our best site for this is probably the Ford plant site or TCAAP and there's already huge pushback again...

Re: Thrivent's Surface Parking Lots

Now we know what they want to do with the big lot across the street: I just got an email alert that Thrivent has a preliminary agreement to sell its building to Hennepin County. It wants to build a new HQ across the street. Why would Hennepin County need more office space? They're in the process of...

Follow the money. Lenders being unnecessarily stingy and/or timid is almost certainly at fault here.
Pull together some funds and make it happen! There's a killing to be made in residential loans! It's a slam dunk!
Shades of 2006 right there. We all know how that turned out.

Should have put the cops on bikes instead of parking their cars on the sidewalk, then they would have actually caught the two thugs who did this yesterday.

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

The cynical approach would be to join the unrealistic promises game that Republicans are sure to engage in, somehow manage to lock down the MN House/Senate/Governor by 2020, then attempt an aggressive redistricting process that better optimizes the expanding Dem base in the metro relative to the la...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018

I don't think anyone has a good idea about how to compromise between "I'd like a job that's inherently polluting" and "we don't want you to pollute." If this is the majority view of the DFL, and I increasingly think it is, then the DFL will continue lose the Iron Range and quite possibly the state.

But, when these ice shelves break off and melt, sea level actually goes down slightly, not up. I don't see how people don't get this.
Depends on if it's land ice or sea ice.
Last time I checked, ice shelves are by definition over water not land.

Re: 38th Street Corridor & 38th St Station Development

On one hand, this building meets the definition of looming. Oh, I'm not complaining about the density at all. I'd welcome more. It's the way the building wraps around that small corner structure, like Sauron watching over the land...If the exterior is meant to visually break up the massing that sho...

Reduced battery capacity also means reduced charging time, no? Maybe as the EV fleet ages we'll hit a sweet spot where charging time is reduced and range is still good enough to make it more practical for commuters.

How was that bad journalism? Besides the fact that you didn't agree with the premise of the article. Because what I read had interviews and quotes from half a dozen different sources all the way from homeless people up to former CMs.

Biking home on the 28th street bike lanes recently I was surprised by how many of the riders being detoured off of the Greenway were riding on the sidewalk, instead of the protected bike lane. I think this shows both how uncomfortable much of the public is with riding in the street period. Secondly...

A transportation bill isn't necessary to avoid a shutdown, so Dayton is free to veto to his heart's content on that one, and I expect he will if it ever were to reach him.

Re: Hiawatha-Minnehaha Avenue Development & Grain Elevators/Freight Corridor

I'll just further add that in the grand scheme of "development along the Blue Line", 42nd Street and on the wrong side of Hiawatha (this site) is about as far from a station platform as you can get. This site just isn't that accessible to the Blue Line, with a walk time >10 minutes. I'm not saying ...
