Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

Projected ridership is also now estimated at 11,500 to 13,000 a day, so about the same as what the D line is currently doing. Yay.

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

If that was considered I'm guessing it was rejected because of visual blight of the bridge and the need for security fencing so people don't throw stuff onto the tracks or overhead wires. I attended the earliest public meetings where the options were shown including putting the bike trail on a brid...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

Metro transit re-ran the projected ridership numbers using the new FTA formula... it's not good. 18.5k daily riders down from 26.6k. Combine with the higher costs of this route with the new alignment and it's gonna be tough to get a federal match on this project as-is according to Scott Dibble. http...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

There’s not a single corridor that has the ridership to justify rail in a post-pandemic world where ridership is down by half. Heck even the current blue and green lines, if planned at their current ridership, would never be approved as rail corridors.

Per Metro Transit, overall crime reported up 54%. Narcotics violations up 182%. We...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Anyone have scuttlebutt on Target office thinking? I spent Christmas Eve with a fairly senior (design department head) Target worker, and when asked, their response was that they are never going back. They said maybe they’ll go in one day a week when there’s a special meeting or something. They wer...

It's basically a big box strip mall, except they replaced the old rainbow foods with an apartment block. You're all kidding yourself if you think any of this retail will be truly street facing.

Mike Opat's hubris is the single biggest reason BNSF walked away from this project and left us with this mess.

I highly recommend you all actually listen to or watch the video about W. Broadway. The Met Council is basically like, "Center running is the only way," and then community members pipe in and say basically, "We don't see how you're going to fit this in here at all without tearing dow...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

What's wrong with parking cars on the concrete directly under the elevated rail deck, between the support poles? you could probably fit quite a few if you did angled parking to make up for the loss of curbside parking. Or am I missing something obvious here.

Only one travel lane and no parking isn't going to go down well to say the least. How they'll fit stations in too is beyond me.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis - News & General Topics

A plan to ‘reanimate’ downtown’s Nicollet Mall Great to see business leaders step up here. It will be hard to make downtown vibrant again without more downtown workers coming back, but OTOH if these groups can do some programming to make nicollet less dead it will hopefully entice more office worke...

It's certainly bad all over, but the impacts are far more noticeable downtown (as in impactful on the quality of life). Basically the draw of downtown is the things that have been crushed as a result of the pandemic (walkable vibrancy). The 'draw' of Eden Prairie doesn't change all that much even i...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Well 1m sq. feet of office space can now be filled by...something. Maybe we'll see more creative re-use of this space like we've seen before with more AirBnB/investor apartments. In the meantime I'd tap the breaks on the grand mass-transit plans because this won't be the only large downtown company ...

Or the county could just admit they screwed up, offer BNSF the crystal connection they want, and move on. If the railroad still won't budge after that then it looks far worse on them.

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)

FTA drops gold line ranking to "medium low", imperiling federal funding unless changes are made. Article specifically mentions bolstering the park-and-ride elements.
