Re: Phalen Village

It's been a long time since I've jumped in on anything since I've been living outside the US for a while, but wanted to chime in on the conversation since I still own my townhouse that's just two blocks away from proposed development. I do feel that this project lacks ambition. The block could defin...

Re: New Kraus-Anderson HQ (9th St. S/5th Ave. S)

The only way this block will ever get a skyway connection is if the Best Western block gets redeveloped. Being connected to the skyway is essential in the core business district, but not really a necessity for residential developments like this. Skyscape and Grand Park are not connected to the syste...

Re: New Kraus-Anderson HQ (9th St. S/5th Ave. S)

This is quite impressive. It's not going to win and design awards, but I have a feeling that this is going to have a massive impact on the neighborhood and spur even more development on the surrounding blocks. As I stated before, I wish there was a retail space on the corner of Portland and 8th. All...

Re: Mortenson / USBank project - 333 Hennepin Ave E

This is going to looks a little ridiculous right next to the residential tower. I know the bank isn't interested in property management, but there's probably enough office space demand to justify a 4-8 floor office building here with the bank as the main retail tenant on the bottom floor. They would...

Re: Portland Tower - 516 S. 8th St.

no one is saying that the project is perfect, but it's a lot better than many of the stick projects that have gone up over the past few years. I think one things we all get caught up on is the overall look of the tower. yes, no one here likes parking podiums, but what we have here is better than mos...

Re: Nye's Redevelopment - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue

I'm a fan of the new proposal. Yes, more density is always better, but the tower they were proposing was always awkward and didn't offer a very good street presence. I love towers, but they don't always work. A good building needs to have a welcoming street presence and offer something to the commun...

Re: Downtown East - Wells Fargo / Radisson Red / Edition Apt

Traffic with Portland and Park close was a beautiful cluster F*CK. Have not seen so many pissed off drivers in my life. Wonderful rush hour gridlock as I was walking though the area. That was at just before 4, can't imagine what it was like around 4:30 to 6 in that area. Noticed that as well. It wa...

Re: 2751 Shepard Road - Former Sperry Rand/US Bank site

what river views? even with no building on the site, it's impossible to see the river. There are 50 foot trees which don't even allow you to see across to the other side of the river, let a long the water itself which is a good 80 feet lower. Did anyone actually do out and look to see what views wou...

Re: New Kraus-Anderson HQ (9th St. S/5th Ave. S)

There's really not enough demand for a full service grocery store on this side of downtown yet. CVS has most of the day to day essentials that people need and most people who live here could easily walk to the other grocery stores on the other corners of downtown on their lunch breaks without breaki...

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium Construction Updates

What's up with the permanent black fence along the perimeter of the stadium along 5th street and 11th Ave? Looks like the stadium will the area around the stadium will be under lock and key, not allowing people to get close to the building. That's one of the things I actually likes about the Metrodo...

Re: New Kraus-Anderson HQ (9th St. S/5th Ave. S)

This is sooooo much better than the previous proposals. I want to see what this looks like from the opposite corner. The article mentions that there will be townhouses fronting the Portland side, but I'm hoping that there's at least one retail slot on the corner of Portland and 8th. With this many n...

Re: West Grand Apartments (2138-2146 Grand Ave)

Those who complain about the "ugly" developments that are going up in Minneapolis should rethink their use of the word. This is simply embarrassing. If I was a developer, I'd be ashamed to have my name on this project.

Re: Custom House - Downtown Saint Paul Post Office

I agree, but it's a bit of a disappointment that this development will not have much of an impact on the surrounding blocks. Yes, it will put more people this side of downtown, but there are no restaurants or shops within a two block radius. All the buildings in the area have closed off street front...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

As a father of a 3 and 6 year old, I can tell you that kids don't need a lot of open green space. All they really care about is a playground with a few slides and some swings. All we need is a real elementary school in the North Loop with a decent playground that's open to the public. Personally, I ...

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium

I'm not too concerned with the branding on the stadium - especially the large logo on the roof. Because of the angle, you need to be at least 500 feet away from the building to even see anything on the roof and even then you'd see the logo from an angle and wouldn't be able to make out what it is. I...

Re: New Kraus-Anderson HQ (9th St. S/5th Ave. S)

Honestly, I'd rather see a 1/4 block office development than a master plan for the whole block. Let's be honest, full-block developments are hard and we're usually disappointed with what's proposed. Let them build a 6-8 story office tower on one of the corners and allow the market to dictate what is...
