Re: Planned Parenthood - New Uptown Clinic (1210 Lagoon Ave)

I agree with amiller. If none of us are aware of what procedures take place there, you can't expect protesters to be. I would think PP would err on the side of more security at a new facility to mitigate that risk.

Re: Legacy Condominiums - 121 12th Ave S (187' - 17 Stories)

I could be wrong, but weren't those buildings built about a 100 years ago built with timbers vs the cheap 2x4 and 2x6 crap they build them with now? I would much rather buy a 100 year old condo vs a new stick built one. Quality just seems a lot better. I think you might be referring to the fact tha...

It really didn't sound like you were talking about historic, logical traffic/pedestrian movement, but, yah know, thanks!

Re: Minneapolis Armory

Are you able to explain why you think the historical use (which is fluid anyway) is the logical use in modern times? Similarly, do you think the historic use is the only logical use?

Re: Minneapolis Armory

I also don't see the issue with the elevated floor. Did anybody ever expect retail in the main structure on ground level here? If not, then the parking level makes no difference to me; and if it makes the space more functional, then all the better. Unless people expected retail on the ground level, ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

The West ramp with the tubes has a ridiculous, predatory pay structure. Early bird is pretty reasonable (~$10 for the day); however, if you park for only a few hours, I think it is like $27. If you get caught in that trap, it's infuriating. Admittedly, I too like the look of the red-tubed ramp, but ...

Re: Guthrie Ramp Hotel Development - 800 Washington Avenue S

They're currently working with some local restaurants to try to fill the space. They've said that there are many interested parties. Hyatt wants to see a 3 meal a day restaurant that doesn't feel like a hotel restaurant. They haven't pursued any retailers for the 2500 sq ft on the other corner, but...

Re: Portland Tower - 516 S. 8th St.

Once the new KA development is finished, the broken wall of mid/high-rises along Portland is going to look great; hopefully that will continue with the Thrivant lot. I know it has been said before, but this area has so much potential to be excited about.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Is this the most detailed map of the full proposed route we have? It was posted April 2, 2015, but I can't find any more recent maps on the Met's website. I know the route is still subject to change, but man it seems like detailed maps (not just station maps) should be more readily available by this...

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium Construction Updates

Because a professional sports team is a different kind of business than Ameriprise Financial, and that shouldn't even have to be explained. I'm not saying it's right, but professional sports teams around the world are private companies that serve a pseudo public purpose, and the Vikings are extreme...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

I think those interiors are historic for sure and we already lost half of it. People should be devastated and the city should realize what an asset those kinds of public space are. It's ridiculous to have that lost for a gym. It's, what, 25 years old? And historic as what? An attempted urban shoppi...

Re: Uptown Hotel Discussion

As mentioned discussed above, homeownership is traditonally thought to benefit society and the economy more than renting. There is a paper written by Bostic & Lee entitled "Homeownership: America's Dream" (2007) that discusses the arguments. A few excerpts follow: "Homeownership i...

Re: AC Marriott Hotel (401 Hennepin Ave / Andrews Hotel site

So, did they have to cut a deal with the owners of the Lumber Exchange for blocking their windows, or is that the risk you take when you cut windows into your zero-setback building wall? For the sake of all the other empty lots on Hennepin with similar windows in neighboring buildings, I hope it's ...

They were bringing in the furniture into The Fremont this morning when I drove into work. At the time I passed, they were bringing in light gray lounge seating. Anyone know when the open date is for The Fremont or Cowboy Slims/ Jacks for that matter? The Cowboy will open when there is a foot of sno...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

In numerous interviews and public forums developers are saying they are withholding building condos because of the lawsuits allowed by the defect laws. For example, at the Blake Corridor workshops a representative from Ryan told the entire room during a Q and A with the audience that Ryan was avoid...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

A couple guys at sherman have used the warranty excuse as essentially the entire reason they are not building condos. Or more specifically insurance issues/cost because of the warranty law. At some p/sq ft it would still make sense, obviously. Certainly there are developers out there that won't bui...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

Minnesota's construction defect laws (327A.02 and 541.051) apply equally to any new "dwelling." The statutes don't discriminate between condos and apartments. Thus, the "vendee" (which could be a condo unit owner, HOA, or apartment building owner) can sue the "vendor" (...
