Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

If you have a Super Bowl ticket, buy a special $30 Gameday Pass. Regular light-rail service WILL NOT operate on gameday.

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

It's probably just my personal perception, but I don't feel the proposed stop locations at CP Spur is that much far from W 7th St, maybe except at Otto, or at Montreal---and considering the future developments near Davern St, Victoria Park and Schmidt Brewing, I believe the center of gravity is shif...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

Hmm... Shouldn't CP Spur alignment be cheaper tho? I was guessing it to be a hybrid alignment, for sure, but I guess I was wrong.

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

http://www.seattletimes.com/business/amazon/amazons-second-headquarters-expect-the-unexpected/ I read this article on my bus ride to work in downtown Seattle, passing by Amazon HQ, and since then, I'm definitely on the hype train. I think we have a really strong case for MSP/MN compared to some oth...

I sense a smell of Detroit People Mover from that Duluth one-way light rail loop idea.....

Re: Mass transit construction costs in the United States far higher than what European countries pay for comparable proj

I don't have my thesis posted online unfortunately, but here's a link to the 'teaser' presentation slides for the talk I gave. I'm out of town for post-graduation travelling duties, but I'll make sure to check in with the thread after I come back in couple weeks! https://docs.google.com/presentation...

Re: Mass transit construction costs in the United States far higher than what European countries pay for comparable proj

I just finished my master's thesis at grad school on this exact topic---the more I study on this issue, the more fascinating it gets!

But the short answer on this question is... "it's complex" and "it depends"...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

Agreed. Riverview Branch Line can (or maybe "should", considering the cost-effectiveness concerns) terminate at Ford & Woodlawn, facilitating easy transfers btwn Riverview LRT and A Line aBRT. If through-routing the branch line trains to dwtn St. Paul is too hard, considering interline schedules and...

Sorry, I usually am not a fan of people throwing initialism/acronyms around, but I made that mistake myself.
RH = Rush Hour. NH = Normal Hour (Non-rush)

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

I'm still personally infatuated with Alignment #10---using CP spur is a no-brainer---higher potential for shorter travel time and higher reliability. (less grade-crossings/conflicts with vehicular traffic on 7th St, I assume.) I wonder why we're still struggling between the Ford Spur alignments and ...

Just made another mistake of reading the comment section... So many people think they fully pay for the road they use with gas tax, argh.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

Am I the only one who's bothered by the fact that they chose to categorize A-Line as a separate service category, but you can't find anything about the "METRO" Red Line? Coz it's run by MVTA, maybe?

Re: Twin Cities LRT vs Portland Tram ?

@kellonathan, sort of both but primarily streetcar. Our LRT seems (to me) to fall somewhere between a standard Tram (streetcar in US) and a commuter rail. Located in street ROW like tram but with some dedicated ROW. Faster than a tram, not as fast as commuter. Stop spacing about the same as tram/st...

Re: Ford Twin Cities Assembly Plant Redevelopment

I know these are submitted by architects, and I know I am just 'reviewing' these ideas with my planner-eyes, but, but, but, these are all horrible if one of these gets to be implemented as-is. Most submissions didn't seem to consider the nature of surrounding neighborhoods at all. For industrially o...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project

I actually really like the idea of cutting the Orange Line at 98th St. (current South Bloomington TC location right off of I-35W, I assume) I am not up to date on the ridership patterns along the corridor, but I always assumed that Burnsville passengers would be better served by higher service level...
