Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

I am part of the Community Working Group for this project. The City of Brooklyn Park has really made an effort for outreach on this project. We have had informational and listening sessions at North Hennepin that were advertised on social media, E-mail and an actual mailing. There are areas on the l...

Re: 610 Corridor - Brooklyn Park

http://blogs.citypages.com/blotter/2015/03/brooklyn_parks_luxury_makeover_begins_with_new_apartment_complex.php I like some of the other insight on this thread. I would agree that the points above are exactly why this project is being subsidized. As a resident, I have been voicing support to the cou...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

Duval discusses how he makes it work. http://m.startribune.com/local/minneapolis/288099651.html?section=/ Key point, the tower isn't offices. Mostly residential for the predicted huge need. The offices will be in the podium. I saw this and was glad to see some more positive press. The bumpkins don'...

Re: Condition of Minnesota Roads and what to do...

Did anyone see the new proposal from Move Mn? I don't think anyone wants to pay more taxes but of their proposals here are my thoughts: Increase gas tax with a gross receipts tax on top of the current per gallon scheme. OK, I don't like it but it does seem fair and more realistic than a mileage base...

Re: Condition of Minnesota Roads and what to do...

Just like every business and rich person in Minnesota moved to South Dakota, right?[/quote]

Speaking of South Dakota that is one of the states that decided to let some roads revert back to gravel. That strategy should be considered here as well. Sorry but little used roads are not a priority.

Re: Condition of Minnesota Roads and what to do...

I saw one interesting comment that suggested killing both the renter's rebate and LGA. I would agree that would be one way to help reduce waste. LGA subsidizes rural Minnesota to the point they don't realize what their government costs. What about mileage based taxation? I don't know that cutting t...

Did anyone else see this? http://m.startribune.com/comments/287421581?path=politics/statelocal/287421581.html?section=%2F I realized how crazy it is that Minnesota has so many lane miles to serve the vast expanse of the state which is populated with low density. Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

I'm sorry but I find the climate argument to be incredibly silly. Somehow everyone else in this state besides the downtown workers manages to get along with life without skyways. Everyone who lives in this city for more than a year learns how to dress for the weather. With the recent booming succes...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

I was just browsing the Strib opinion section (Bad idea, I know) and I found this little reader op-ed. Its so depressing that it's almost funny. People like this are why we can't have nice things. Yikes! An 80-story building on Nicollet Mall (“Lofty visions fill site plans,” Dec. 13)?! Alex Duval i...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

I think this market can support a 900 footer. The Duval design is the most appealing to me not just due to height but when that is considered it blows the others away. Given the current demand for DT housing and having the wow factor of the newly built skyscraper in Minneapolis would most likely dri...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

I would love to hear what others would like Duval to do. It sounds like small minded thinking is coming out with many of the negative comments. So what if it surpasses the IDS? Progress. No one stays on top forever. A tower of this height would be great for Minneapolis. I actually like the simpler d...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

One could say the Willis Tower is out of proportion as well... But it sure looks good. I would love to see some supertalls in Minneapolis to keep our place for interesting US skylines.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

http://www.startribune.com/local/minneapolis/285689811.html?page=2&c=y They can't stay away. I am geeked about a building going up above the IDS. Minneapolis is pretty lucky to have the IDS, Wells and Cappella towers and this addition would keep the class up there. Duval has assembled a large team o...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

The Duval proposal would be iconic and a welcome addition to the skyline. A 900 footer would be both iconic and add some nice symmetry and balance to the skyline. That side of downtown has the potential to fill in nicely and a building like this would do it.
