Re: Google Maps

Not directly helpful: I am aware of commercially available images taken by both airplanes and satellites. Haven't heard of helicopters being used, but don't know why they couldn't be. Also have no idea where Google gets there's (don't think it's from the plane/satellite sources I'm personally aware ...

Not sure why volleyball is any weirder than other park-based sports facilities. Don't think we need more tennis courts. Apparently someone is advocating for pickleball (whatever that is), like, whatever.

Re: Target Field Station (the Hotel) & Target Field Station (the Station)

According to google street view, the Holiday was built sometime between 2009 and 2011. Per County property records, 2010. I'm trying to remember where I got gas when I lived downtown. The most accurate answer is that I didn't do it very often because I didn't drive much. I guess I used the Loring S...

At least early on, the balance of comments on the "let people chose cars" counterpoint was fairly neutral to maybe slight pro-alternatives. I lost track as the comment count went up, though.

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board

There needs to be some sort of long-ranged plan to adapt the infatructure to climate change. In some instances, it might best for us to retreat a bit. The in-progress Minnehaha Parkway Regional Trail Master Plan includes a bunch of re-meandering of the creek and additional water storage areas. http...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

Do we want Nicollet to be the beating heart of downtown Minneapolis, and a shopping, dining, and retail destination? Yes and no. If "destination" means "where people come from the suburbs twice a year for dinner" then no that isn't the goal. I want Nicollet to be part of a thriving downtown, with w...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News

Who's gonna pay for downtown parking to go shop at the same stores that are at MOA? People who are already parking or otherwise visiting downtown. Apple stores are really about product exposure rather than sales. They are also largely about repair. There are tens of thousands of people who need to ...

Anecdotally, people riding them are mostly in the 50+ age group.
In particular women, in my non-scientific observation.

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News

The city really needs to advertise the parking ramps better. There's been a tremendous loss of visible surface parking in the area, which is great, but the ramps are hard to find if you're not familiar with the area and the regional transit service has not caught up to the point of making Uptown or...

Jesus, people will just attach "racsim" to literally anything now.
There's plenty of evidence that urban freeways were through black communities on purpose all across the country. How is that not racist?

Also, racism really is everywhere.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

Are the dead trees gone for now? They replaced trees earlier this spring and I saw a truck full of new trees yesterday. Gotta be a little expensive to replace such large trees (although maybe they are insured or under warranty), but having not been specifically looking for tree health, haven't real...

I'm trying to understand what the drawing shows for the first level. Are they asking to use the bulk of the first floor as a lobby?

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

The problem with this space isn't that the people are homeless or "undesirable". The problem is the behavior. Leaving piles of trash, drinking, fighting, drug use and gambling are constant at this location. As a society we have decided that these behaviors are not allowed on the sidewalk. So you do...

I wonder if removing the seating area underneath the sculpture would help? It's really sad that they built this sculpture but now nobody can go see it because it's been taken over by the homeless people. And we've just started getting over making public spaces inhospitable to keep "undesirables" ou...

I don’t often bike in but coming in this morning I saw something like barriers around it. Do they put up barriers regularly?
There was a sign saying "closed for maintenance."

You know I wonder assuming all of them where dockless, how far out some the e-bikes will end up at end of each day, given how I've seen several different brands/types around hopkins and only one of which has a hub nearby.
The ebikes are not dockless.

Re: Bike Share

Saw one on the map (desktop, they aren't showing on the app for me), so went down to try it. With the important caveat that it was my first time on an e-bike, I did not like it. Okay, I liked going up hill on it, but I didn't like the ride. It's not really "pedal assist." It's "pedal throttle." If y...

But the new paint on the first floor looks good!

(Honestly, it's been empty so long I might be willing to give in to desperation).
