Sign used to say Talenti (which they sold), but I think it just said "Phillips" when last I noticed.

Welcome! You will find skyways, and especially adding new ones, to a be a very controversial topic, especially among the sorts of folks who participate here. On the one hand, skyways draw people away from the street, thereby reducing street activity: http://www.startribune.com/skyway-avoidance-socie...

Re: Bike Shopping

Looks like I'm averaging around 9 mph on the studded tires with a commute that's 5.5-6 miles each way. Don't sweat much, no, but there is some fine-tuning of the right amount of clothes that can make a difference.

When it's warmer, you can always slow down if you're too warm (and not in a hurry).

I do not want to get rid of the ABC ramps (at least in the medium term). I want them to be (almost) the only option.

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan

What a masterful bit of legislating by Lisa Bender (I assume). I would have pegged Goodman as a sure no vote (and yeah, there were compromises in her ward I don't love). There were some questioning noises from just about every CM (though I do not personally recall Cano saying anything at all). Just ...

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan

I've not seen the briefing, and you really cannot rely on general news reporting on anything legal (or otherwise technical, I assume), but all I've got is that the plaintiffs may be arguing that the environmental review they want is a required process step that has to happen for a vote, thus if the ...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

People complaining about SWLRT today are mired in the past. What cities are *now* planning to do with it (TOD, walkability, etc.) is very modern and very unlike how it was originally planned (commuter rail sort of thing). The flip side of "nothing there" is potential for redevelopment, of course. W...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Like the existing Green Line, its utilitty is much more in the interior station-to-station service with a boost from reverse commuters. That would be great if true, but there's not much there at a lot of stations - Bassett Creek Valley (old Royalston), 21st St, Beltline, Louisiana, Golden Triangle ...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Does anyone live out there and know what rush hour takes driving from out there? I did a quick google route and it showed 24 mins from SouthWest station driving on MN100 but thats not PM peak traffic obviously. Time + not having to drive in rush hour traffic sounds competitive to me, but I'm very m...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

When I lived downtown, before the Hennepin Ave L&B opened, I'd drive across the river for groceries once a week. Once the new L&B was there, I could get my everyday shoppings done between it, CVS, and Target. And there was a Macy's for non-everyday shopping. Even though I didn't use it much, I kept ...

He’s been fine to good. Don’t have any real gripes right now. Not really sure there’s been the big break from the prior regime that he tried to run on, but I’m not sure on that.

Re: Bike Shopping

Just did my first commute ever with studded tires. Definitely helped in the slushy bike lanes, but I also put them on my old hybrid, so riding more upright might have helped me feel more stable too. Definitely slower and more work. I'd say yes to studded tires for sloppy conditions but that's an eas...

Re: Widening allowed business types in single family house residential zoning

We are currently allowed to operate certain types of businesses out of our residences or garages. What if we could at least get a city to widen residential zoning to allow a single family house owner to also operate their own bakery, tea shop, coffee shop, chocolatier, 10 seat restaurant ... that k...

You know with swlrt finally seems to be moving forward I kinda have an idea for an article Go to each station site and see what is currently there and what is proposed to be there eventually in a x mile radius. Ever year or so (maybe less) go back to each station site and see if anything has change...

Yes, because hotel guests otherwise may get confused and light-headed with all the skyway direction options. If they dare allow two skyway connections. Forcing hotel guests down to the street level is the best option. That way they never want to come back and visit Minnesota again! Great way to kee...

Re: Gateway Tower (RBC/Four Seasons) - 37 stories - 503'

I think some of you live in strange bubbles. When you build your own office building or hotel, by all means, don't connect it to the very extensive and heavily used grid that ultimately makes Minneapolis unique & easy to navigate during our brutal winter months. I use the skyways every weekday and ...
