Re: Bergan's Redevelopment - Cedar & Minnehaha Parkway

There was activity again today, so that's good.

Re: Go Minneapolis - Transportation Action Plan

The All Ages and Abilities network also needs more connections out of the city to the south. There's currently one low-stress bikeway (MUP next to Bloomington Ave) and no additions in the plan.

Saw a guy riding a blue one down a Lake Street sidewalk. Turns out it's not that hard to disable the GPS chip, I guess.

Re: Lake & Nicollet Redevelopment (Kmart site)

It seems you have more faith than me that the city can successfully achieve a very calmed street in a place where people will want to drive through, but a very calmed street (in the neighborhood of a woonerf) would be fine with me too.

I don't have a ton of comments, because when I go to make a point, it's mostly already in there.

Re: Lake & Nicollet Redevelopment (Kmart site)

Potentially making local traffic drive half a mile around their destination for a 1 block calmed pedestrian area? Who said one block? I'm eyeing at least 28th to Lake. But who are "people?" Because there are people on buses (eventually streetcar?), bikes and foot too. Especially local traffic. But ...

Re: Lake & Nicollet Redevelopment (Kmart site)

I don't think it's a great idea to close the street to automobiles. I'm a big fan of having as many open free streets for all modes as possible. I'm trying to imagine the congestion on blaisdell and 1st, and overly convoluted routes around the area if this would be. It would be a disservice to pede...

"Open" means open to cars. Doesn't need to be a freeway, but there should be an allowance for autos, else why are we spending tax dollars on it.
To redevelop it and replace the giant empty, parking lots and former grocery store and otherwise poor land use.

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar

I am not optimistic about the city's seriousness about the climate emergency. https://twitter.com/MplsWard10/status/1235573373712785411 Don't know what "removing the bike lane" even means for that block (3000 block of Hennepin), but as annoying as stopped vehicles in the lane are, that block is vas...

Article says the county and state roads will not change. Does that mean Lyndale, Lake, and the most critical corridors are exempt?
Yup.

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar

What are the chance that he re-opened street can be restricted to transit and non-car traffic? Extended all the way from the existing Mall? There's housing in a few places (including some brand new housing). Feasible to allow only resident cars? I suspect the driving public will be quite eager to ad...

I thought the limit to lower to was 25. Wrong?
Many people like to say " Twenty is plenty". Possibly because it rhymes .
Isn't 20km/hr the Dutch rule for where cars mix with others?

I'd love to see a downtown (and other commercial node??) speed limit of 20mph.

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar

To my mind, the difference in service/quality/capacity between aBRT and streetcar just doesn't seem very big, while the price difference is. Not so with LRT vs BRT, where the trains can be bigger, faster and smoother riding than buses can really achieve.

Man, that's a terrible place to be crossing the street. There's no way the driver wasn't speeding over that bridge too.

Re: Daymark Uptown (Sons of Norway site) - 3014 Holmes Ave S

It will be interesting to see what kind of retail is able to fill the main floor if any. The landscape has changed dramatically in Uptown. There are more people moving into overpriced apartments which leaves less money to spend in the shops in the neighborhood. Um. What? Surely a person paying "ove...

They should absolutely be incorporating retail into the busier stations. Building Lake Street and Snelling Ave stations without newspaper and coffee stands isn't just a missed opportunity, it makes the stations less convenient and useful to their users. It's also a missed opportunity for "eyes on t...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

If there was a way to make Broadway one way, and thus eliminate the "need" for a travel lane in one direction, that should be on the table. But part of what makes Broadway the choice for where this should go is that it diverges from the grid (and it's where stuff is), so there's no obvious way to do...
