Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

There's also little signage from the skyway too. It has to be hard to be successful when only people who work or live in the building are likely to notice you. Although after the conversion to an Irish bar, they did tend to have (paper) "Irish bar" decorations out on the patio, making it a bit more ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

I still think it would've been a bad idea for Minneapolis to implement a tip credit/penalty when the rest of the state doesn't. That's more headache than its worth. My take was always that Minneapolis shouldn't have gone to $15/hr. MSP simply does not have equivalent housing costs to LA/NYC/SF/Seat...

Re: Downtown Riverfront - Mill Ruins Park - Waterworks

I'm curious, do you visit the park on the tip of Nicollet island, or the one by the power station, weekly? Assuming no, what about this would do you think would draw you regularly?

Re: Downtown Riverfront - Mill Ruins Park - Waterworks

I don't really get it. Well, I get it, but I'm not sure how it's going to work. Why is someone going to go out there more than once? Is it just a place to go for a walk/run and look at the falls? Don't we have them with parks on both sides and the Stone Arch Bridge, except that those things connect ...

Re: Seven Corners: Hotel (30 stories) & Student Housing (12 stories)

Not great to lose the small-scale parcels, but if the building includes a lot of small retail spaces, it'll be fine. I generally agree with this sentiment when historic preservation is discussed. In any other city, your take is probably correct. But we have so little 100+ year old fabric like this ...

Re: Seven Corners: Hotel (30 stories) & Student Housing (12 stories)

Remove the 35W ramps at Washington and build some of this on the reclaimed land instead. That would at least save the buildings on the SE end of the block. My god, at a bare minimum save the Bullwinkles building at the corner!! It's 3 stories...that has to be worth something. I was gonna say that t...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

Neither options were all that impressive. It kinda seems like this is planned for a multi-phase development with the layout they presented. Tear stuff down in 10 years and put in a tower. Option 2 had the City of Lakes building completely gutted for parking. Both options called for demolition of 21...

And an unstaffed BoA "service center" on the 100 block of Washington Ave N.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

Might make sense for a diner or something, but I'm not sure the workers, patients and visitors to the hospital or the new residents of the (subsidized? income restricted? both?) new housing are going to be enough to support a craft beer or sports bar.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

It was a great location for a bar when the Twins played 81 games at the Metrodome.

But, darnit, where am I doing to grab a beer on my way home from Williams Arena, having missed my connection to the 14 and having a half hour to kill before there's another one?

38th and Bryant redevelopment. Lawsuit! https://wedgelive.com/2018/08/neighbors-sue-to-stop-apartments-at.html 3329 Nicollet. The neighborhood was pitched 2 proposals, and naturally people objected to the one with more density. So we got mostly "townhomes" instead. https://www.southwestjournal.com/...

Re: 200 Central (2019) - ~300'? / 27 Stories

Great find! Not sure I like how the tower lines Central Ave instead of being pushed back to the back side of the podium. There is a great 3-6 floor vide in this area that would be greatly complemented. As well as not overpowering the square nearby as well. Plus the views from the pool on the podium...

Kinda shameful showing for Ward 11 (which I initially thought was wrong, forgetting that the Bergran's development is technically in Ward 12).

Re: Nicollet Mall

The Christmas Market should be on the Mall. Not in Peavy Plaza as it originally was (although that's better than in Loring Park), but along the length of the Mall, where it can provide a reason to stroll the length and visit the businesses (such as they are) next to it. That's a whole point of doing...

Re: MSP Airport

For the savvy travelers most likely to stay at the hotel, avoiding the main terminal is a feature, not a bug. How do you figure? When I've stayed at the fancy on-airport hotels, it's been because I'm flying home in the morning or in for meetings and quickly back out again. Who is staying at the air...

Personally I'm hoping the scooters prove a short trend and leave the market when the novelty wears off.
I don't think they are or will, but they may prove sufficiently unprofitable to go away.

Re: Bike Share

Shoulda copy and pasted the comment I submitted. I'm concerned about reducing the functionality of the system in two aspects: distance and flexibility. A primary utility of adding e-bikes to the system is facilitating longer trips. Will a per minute charge reduce interest in those trips? It will pro...
