People get them confused constantly.
They shouldn't, Toms is way better and has killer malts.

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and Intercity Rail to Chicago

IMO there should be something like 3-4 trains PDEW CHI-MSP in addition to the Empire Builder. At current speeds I can't imagine there is nearly enough demand for 3-4 trains per day to Chicago from Minneapolis-St.Paul. 9-10 hours by train or 1.75 hours by plane. Even with 2 hours for airport securit...

Re: Arby’s Island

Also if the Verizon and Mattress Firm buildings were redeveloped it make the island feel so much more connected to both LynLake and Uptown. Give it time, between the development on Lyn/Lake spreading west and the development spreading from Uptown proper headed east, I would expect these small store...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Y'know, we used to have good corporate citizens; companies that did things for the city/region/state even if it cost them a little. 40 years of extreme capitalist rhetoric has destroyed our collective memory of it. Now, "it's just business," and, "this is normal business practice,&qu...

With Vescio’s closed in SLP this was the last one, correct?
Yep, this was the last location that was open.

Vescio's is closing in March. My family has been going there for about 55 years before athletic events, I will miss their sauce!

Re: São Paulo

I'm in Sao Paulo now, and while I wouldn't say it's a beautiful city architecturally, it is vibrant and alive. Great metro system, easy to use (even without knowing much Portuguese), and many bike paths. Traffic is a nightmare in the city, but I am in one of the outlying financial districts which is...

Re: Cedar Ave - Nokomis Area

A gym is a perfectly fine tenant in a project that did more to make use of this spot, but a small addition to the building and a whole lot more parking lot and a drive through is terrible. Especially as there is a chain coffee place with a drive through practically across the street already. It's l...

Re: Cedar Ave - Nokomis Area

The fitness place will be a welcome addition, no gyms within walking distance for that neighborhood. Closest from a quick googling looks to be Snap on Hiawatha Ave or a on Nicollet.

Re: 2015 Minnesota State Rail Plan

So I was looking through this plan once again. And I saw two items that fascinated me. One is a replacement of the BNSF lift bridge at Prescott ($50 million), and the other is the replacement of the CP lift bridge at Hastings ($90 million). But both of these structures are under 35 years old! Why w...

Re: Athletic Department Practice Facilities

I wish they had put a track inside tcf, that would have been the smart thing. Especially since our track program is worth watching since they win stuff. There's a reason most college football stadia that had a track have since been ripped out and replaced with seats, no new college stadium will be ...

Re: Minnehaha Park

I thought the bridge was closed due to the seemingly constant construction at the vets home. I guess its falling apart. I'd like something built in its place, even if it was just a pedestrian/bike bridge. But money. Judging by the article a ped/bike only option wouldn't be pursued because of the im...

Re: Future cars / Driverless cars

Many rail transit systems could probably be automated with today's technology, if there weren't political obstacles in the way. Many rail yards/switching operations have used remote controlled or semi-autonomous locomotives for a while. Not saying that is the same thing as public transit, but the t...

Re: Cedar Ave - Nokomis Area

MPR isn't far left wing radio, but ok... Just an example, the point still stands. If whatever kind of radio a shopkeeper is listening to bothers you enough, simply stop shopping there. The market will sort it out if enough people feel it detracts from the product they sell. Full disclosure: I liste...

Most likely a passion of his. As friendly as he may be, blasting conservative talk radio can be a turn off when I'm just trying to get some popcorn.
I'm sure he would feel the same way about someone playing MPR in their business, his product is excellent especially the malts. Best in the city.

Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings

Grade separation would be tough at Excelsior... It would involve a massive cut for Excelsior with steep grades, as I'm assuming it would be tough to get much elevation by embanking the railroad due to adjacent crossings and land uses. Too bad Hwy 100 wasn't built with rail down the middle similar t...

Why not both? There's plentiful land around there and the silos could be re-purposed
There are condos west of Lake Calhoun/Isles that used to be concrete silos. Not sure how the size compares to these, but makes for some uniquely shaped units. http://www.calhoun-isles-condos.com/

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

How about just naming it West Calhoun? And if they ever get around to renaming the lake, they then can rename the station?
Agreed. West Calhoun makes the most sense, and they are never going to rename the lake.
