Re: Maplewood, North St Paul, & Oakdale - General Topics

Another batch of apartments is going up in Maplewood near the mall, wedged between County Rd D and the Bruce Vento Trail (immediately north of Costco). It has 152 units and 4 stories. It's called the "Trails Edge Apartments". https://i.imgur.com/uD9D8G4 (<too big to embed) https://i.imgur.com/FDyqfx...

I bet the difference between $1200/month and $1500-1600/month is whether utilities are included.

Re: Southside - General Topics

Anyone have the scoop on the city's side of this? It doesn't really mention why it must be redone.

Re: Ford Site Redevelopment

We should ask Ryan companies what kind of density they'd need to cut that subsidy down to $50M, and even down to $0!

(and of course we should then upzone the site for those densities)

What technology companies would also need production/logistics space? Amazon would have that kind of need, but I've never heard of companies like Facebook, Google, & Microsoft needing it. Maybe Apple? (because they have physical products?)

I bet it's Amazon.

Re: Midtown Corridor Rail & Lake Street aBRT (B Line)

Cool, thanks for the info. That's incredible that a station could cost $400,000. Where is all the money going? It's basically four poles, a few slabs of glass and a computer, right? I've never looked too closely at how they're constructed, though you've gotta tear the area up to put in utilities an...

I wanted to get a Kia Soul EV for my first car but they weren't even sold in MN. Still haven't gotten a car, but the first one is gonna be a Tesla now.

Re: Midtown Corridor Rail & Lake Street aBRT (B Line)

To those skilled in back of the napkin math, I'm curious how aBRT costs add up. I know they're dramatically cheaper than LRT, but still it's hard to figure out how these still cost so much. Like, what does a bus cost? I have no idea, but let's say $500K (which seems really high?). And let's say a t...

The only compromise I can see is a walkup/bike-up window (like Terzo at 50th & Penn, or early Dairy Queen’s). Slight tangent, but I LOVE walkup(/bikeup) windows. They're a great amenity for pedestrians and add street-level activity. The dairy queen I grew up with (on white bear ave near hillcrest) ...

Are you a "resident, employee, visitor, business owner, or landowner"?

Maplewood is soliciting input for what will likely become the station area plan for the Maplewood Mall & St John's stations.

She was just reelected to serve a second term as Mayor of Maplewood...a term which hasn't even begun yet. She seems like a fine candidate to lead the Met Council, with her long legislative experience, mayoral experience, etc. But the timing is odd for her and for Maplewood, which will have a vacant...

Re: Midtown Greenway

Short/mid-term it may not make sense to through-route midtown streetcar/LRT with the greenway extension, though they should still preserve some extra ROW for future transit. Along with initially extending the greenway, Ayd Mill Rd reconstruction is on the horizon now. It's a great opportunity to tea...

How do Met Council & cities deal with a need for retrofitting bigger pipes in existing areas? Who ends up paying? How long does it take? Is it discouraged?
Plus 1. Are there any guidlines or precedents for the Met Council/Cities dealing with this?

So I've been doing some holiday bike browsing/shopping lately. Is there anything I should look for (or common decisions to make) when it comes to ebikes? Also, are there any good holiday deals for bikes/ebikes? Since I'm looking for a utility-focused bike, stuff like this post (below) is pretty help...

I hope that map isn't a final design, since it looks kinda rough. Pretty great seeing all of those routes on the official metro map, though!

I just want to point out, Tin Cup was going to move to Vadnais Heights specifically, which Bob Fletcher is/was the mayor of. Now that Fletcher is (unfortunately) the sheriff, they say they will stay. Smells like politics to me.
