Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project

I was there a couple of days ago and the sidewalk is super bland. The problem is that sidewalk grey + busway grey is too much. It's like the sidewalk is just more road.

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

They are going full-bore on having a separate study to figure out the Ford Site's transit, continuing where Riverview left off to save time. Tolbert amended the LPA recommendation to put in a bunch of specific dates and deadlines for various tasks to be accomplished with studying Transit between Sib...

Re: Hi-Lake - Minnehaha Mall (Target, Cub, etc.) - Downtown Longfellow

We need to acknowledge that we really have two homeless problems. The first is people who, for financial reasons, are unable to find steady housing. The second is people who, due to debilitating mental illness or addiction, are very difficult to house regardless of financial constraints. The first ...

I read about that in the Pioneer Press today, the GOP is just blowing smoke out their ass. (Strib link b/c pioneer press changed stuff with their website) http://m.startribune.com/report-met-council-uses-different-budget-assumptions-for-feds-state/449427223/ Dibble put it concisely: Sen. Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

You'd have to beef up/grade separate more of the planned trackage near downtown. The Midtown Corridor Alone (which would be 1/5 of a Hopkins-St Paul LRT line, at 4 miles in length) would have 10k riders/day (from the Midtown study), half of Riverview. The other 16 miles should easily have an additio...

$50k per parking space: The New Frontier

Because of the sheer size of the parking structure there's probably some significant additional costs included that most smaller/normal-sized parking ramps don't need.

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

Perhaps they were referring to the single-mode requirement, and thus plan on redirecting the 54 Bus to the Ford Site once Riverview is built.

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

In one of the PAC meeting minutes the project team was insistent that you can't apply for federal funding with a "Y" alignment because you have to advance a single route/mode combination. What's the minimum and/or recommended cost threshold to apply for New Starts funding? 46th St to Sibley Plaza on...

Not sure we could legally use all of it though due to safety considerations (modern streetcar through an alley?!?).
Let's do it. ;)

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

That said the CP rail line is simply too far south. Our transit lines and stations have been most successful when they run directly through neighborhoods. Putting this route on the periphery of the neighborhood would, I think, dramatically diminish the likelihood that people north of West 7th would...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

As a regular user of the 54 I'm going to be super disappointed if this just winds up being the 54 bus on rails along west 7th. The 54 is one of our better bus routes, to be fair, but we can do better. If we used the hybrid/CP Rail option the vast majority of the route would've been dedicated ROW and...

Does that mean streetcar along the length of W 7th instead of using the hybrid/CP Rail option? That seems like a bad idea.

Supposedly the TAC will be coming forth with a recommendation for the LPA at their meeting on the 28th.
Did anyone make it to the TAC meeting/know what the proposed LPA is? I was going to attend but slept through my alarm.

I just passed a sets of signs at Arkwright and at Payne saying they were closing to pave it on the 20th. If they're planning on testing a 4-3 over the winter like they said, this is their time to implement it. *fingers crossed*
