Re: Calhoun Square

Anyone know why they're tearing up the vacant lot in front of the parking ramp? Saw it while I was going by there this morning.

Thats six months in which people who might otherwise be ignorant of or flippant about our current state of non-auto centric infrastructure sees the city from a similar perspective as a cyclist.

Re: Rafter - 333 Hennepin Ave E (290' - 26 stories)

Given how many times the 'end of the boom' has been prognosticated over the last decade, I'll wait until projects start getting cancelled before I believe it. We still have an aggressive vacancy rate, regardless of what's happening to the global economy. Having said that, I think this is a great add...

They're a franchise, so a local operator with multiple stores could be having difficulty, but it doesn't necessarily mean that Dunn Bros itself is in trouble.

Probably the investor/leisure class realizing that the bigly economy isn't going to be around much longer and getting more stingy with their investments.

I don't know about that. I've been getting Alia targeted ads on Instagram regularly as of late.

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News

This conversation just reminds me how wild everyone went when someone put up fake Taco Johns announcements at the corner of LynLake. A store selling $400 jackets isn't going to bring regular activity to any neighborhood unless it's already a place people are going to spend thousands like its nothing...

The city is going to put out an RFP in hopes of turning a parking lot into a public market

Re: Bike Share

I originally purchased my e-bike when the only viable bike route for my daily commute was up through Theodore Worth. There's zero chance I would have done that more than once without it. But that's an extreme case. An aging population would be more inclined to bike (and not join the merry "why am I ...

Re: Federal Reserve Riverfront Parking Ramp

Given its prominent river and trail frontage, having an activated and attractive street frontage doesn't minimize the harm a giant ramp would do to this area enough to make that a satisfactory compromise.

Re: Wells Fargo Redevelopment - 801 Portland - 16 stories - 180'

The implication is they might not want to lose their nonconforming use. In the future, they won't propose building a tower next to a new branch if it means a location that currently has a drive thru would lose it in the new building.

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

Really, the alignment they have could have worked if they had planned to put it in the center of Bottineau instead of in the rail corridor. I have no idea why this wasn't considered. They could re-explore running it underground through N. Minneapolis. But I'm honestly fine if we just abandon it and ...

From a credible source that explicitly requested to remain anonymous, BNSF has effectively killed this project for the above reasons. Well then I wish they'd just make it official so we can start the alignment process over and hopefully learn this time that assuming railroads are going to cooperate...

I'll tell you this, when I choose to bike or not bike, it's not because of car exhaust that I feel unsafe. It's drivers not viewing me as human and engineers thinking drivers will respect unprotected bike lakes.

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)

House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, began Friday balking at the idea his caucus would vote to suspend the rules, saying one-day special session would leave too little time for legislators to fully review the bills. "I'm appalled that legislators would do this. It's my trademark strategy, the...
