Re: Federal Reserve Riverfront Parking Ramp

Given its prominent river and trail frontage, having an activated and attractive street frontage doesn't minimize the harm a giant ramp would do to this area enough to make that a satisfactory compromise.

Re: Wells Fargo Redevelopment - 801 Portland - 16 stories - 180'

The implication is they might not want to lose their nonconforming use. In the future, they won't propose building a tower next to a new branch if it means a location that currently has a drive thru would lose it in the new building.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

It's not about the traffic flow, it's about the environment it creates for everyone outside of a car.

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

Really, the alignment they have could have worked if they had planned to put it in the center of Bottineau instead of in the rail corridor. I have no idea why this wasn't considered. They could re-explore running it underground through N. Minneapolis. But I'm honestly fine if we just abandon it and ...

Re: Bottineau LRT (Blue Line Extension)

From a credible source that explicitly requested to remain anonymous, BNSF has effectively killed this project for the above reasons. Well then I wish they'd just make it official so we can start the alignment process over and hopefully learn this time that assuming railroads are going to cooperate...

I'll tell you this, when I choose to bike or not bike, it's not because of car exhaust that I feel unsafe. It's drivers not viewing me as human and engineers thinking drivers will respect unprotected bike lakes.

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)

House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, began Friday balking at the idea his caucus would vote to suspend the rules, saying one-day special session would leave too little time for legislators to fully review the bills. "I'm appalled that legislators would do this. It's my trademark strategy, the...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

It would be a major lawsuit if they did, and I would want us to have a half completed line at that point for us to use as evidence that we were mistreated. Besides, the Green Line funding came from the FTA two years after construction began. Two years from now is 2021. And while I'm certainly not go...

Re: Sears Redevelopment

I wish St. Paul would focus on dense residential first - the offices will follow (as Minneapolis has seen in the North Loop and Mill District). That's why I think this is a good idea, actually. Empty out office space that is unwanted by anyone other than the state seeking a bargain on rent, convert...

Probably also want to make sure they've purchased the steel at its current price, and not what it could cost in a year or so.

One of their big draws is they let you park in their lot for free on Twins games if you buy a beer.

So we've established a 2-3 block walk isn't a dealbreaker for their clientele, it's only when they're saving on event parking that they're willing to do it.

Re: City Club Apartments - 1000 Marquette Ave (Handicraft Building)

I don't disagree with there being an untapped need for a better way for people to match up with roommates, but I think prescribing it is the same sort of middle-class sensibility as a default that cost us a lot of our more affordable living options in US cities. I don't really get why the idea of sh...

Especially funny since it's incredibly easy to have your hosting provider register as the ICANN owner on your behalf to prevent this sort of embarassment.

I submitted a FOIA request to the city to read the lease. Is there someone interested in reading them that's fluent in the legalese? I attempted to decipher them but got a bit buried in the bureaucracy.

It might as well just be Carol Becker's personal site at this point, most of the action comes from her writing long, fact free treatises that she's no longer able to get published in Strib or streets.

All the 'NYT Highlighted Comments' are people who are 'afraid they'll have to start locking their doors.' When the newspaper of the densest city in the country is siding with the NIMBYs, something's seriously messed up.
