Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

This should come as a surprise to absolutely no one. Yanking funding away from projects will put states like Minnesota in the position of having to abandon their projects or pony up the rest, a doubling of local costs that the GOP would use as an urban/rural wedge to victory.

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan

I've been kind of interested by how many of the takes about the plan bring up the Hiawatha Golf Course as a case study in why planners are bad. I'm not sure how a neighborhood org would have solved the problem of it being illegal to continue operating.

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan

That's one thing that seems to be completely lost on the hysterical side of this argument - there's an assumption that a single family home is owned and a fourplex is rented. Invitation Homes is clearly proving the former to be incorrect, and there's plenty of reason to think the latter won't be the...

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan

I suspect there are a number of people out there who had to really stretch to buy their homes, and are now very worried about a drop in value (though it's probably an unfounded concern) or not being able to buy a home in a different part of the city if they want to move. They shouldn't so much fear...

Re: Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan

It's bad enough on E Democracy Forums, I can't imagine how bad it is on Nextdoor. On E Democracy, the first post about any meeting is generally a false story about how someone was barred from speaking or how someone from the city yelled at them, and a number of people get whipped up into a frenzy be...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

My favorite part of this is the Strib comment hot takes on "Why did liberal Minneapolis think it was going to get it," all replied with variations of "Austin is one of the most liberal cities in the country."

Benson Parking, next to the Leamington ramp.

Though I'd like to see that meter farm on the chopping block too.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map

With most of the properties along Washington being gobbled up for development, how soon do we start the countdown for the lot next to Sawatdee? I know the murmurs about Omni Resorts assume they'd develop the block sized lot near the Convention Center, but with how hot Downtown East has been, maybe ...

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map

Ackerberg Group, as it's part of the Calhoun Square property. They've owned it since 2014. The last time they were asked about it in an interview, they said they're saving it for "something really special." Which probably is code for another MoZaic phase that looks indistinguishable from the one tha...

Re: D Line - Chicago-Fremont/Emerson Rapid Bus

I mean, it's ridiculous to think we're going to get a subway period, so there's no reason to be a jackass about it. Besides, if you zoom out from that spot, you're just a few blocks away from Midtown Global Market, the Greenway, and Lake Street.

Re: D Line - Chicago-Fremont/Emerson Rapid Bus

Well, I'd argue that if we found funding to build a subway, I wouldn't start with this route. It would serve a desperate need for a high capacity north-south route through dense, transit dependent communities, and it could be routed through downtown in a way that its track could be used as the grea...

Re: D Line - Chicago-Fremont/Emerson Rapid Bus

Angela Conley should use this as a wedge. Hennepin County picked up a $200 million dollar tab on SWLRT like it was nothing but McLaughlin continues to discount the rapid bus improvements as worthy.

Satellite imagery might be deceiving, but it looks like everything on the tracks is a grain hopper, so it might just be ADM at this point. Maybe Leder Bros Metal uses it.

I'm less worried about us hitting a capacity on demand than I am the economy self-immolating under current leadership.
