Re: Minneapolis Skyway System

Because one of the major people in the group that operates the skyways also owns the company that makes these signs.

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

Well now that we're out, hopefully our proposal will be made public so there can be a post-mortem. I might just have an axe to grind at our boosters after fumbling on both this and the world's fair.

Re: Amazon's New HQ?

It was likely taxes first and foremost, but Greater MSP was the one doing the pushing. Which meant they probably led with the Arden Hills site, then the Bloomington site they failed to sell to the World's Fair. We were at a disadvantage from the start with our taxes and not being willing to throw th...

Ding ding. This was clearly a proposal for urban areas but Minnesota can't ever figure out how to market Minneapolis.

Re: Google Maps

It's not embarrassing to me. Maybe to Google. Or the NFL for clearly either not having foresight to ask for an update or not having omnipotent power over Google. But it's not like I really care if people can see the stadium on Maps or not.

No, more like exactly what I said and nothing like your intentional misreading.

Re: West Lake Station / Calhoun Village area - multimodal study, development, etc.

When I’ve been stuck waiting to cross Lake I’ve wished it were grade separated. But I struggle imagining how to do it without raising Lake up and have it cut the view from Dean Pkwy and the ground floor of Calhoun Beach Club. I would go the opposite way - raise Dean and Calhoun Pkwys over Lake inst...

Re: West Lake Station / Calhoun Village area - multimodal study, development, etc.

Replacing the gas station and grade separating the Dean/Calhoun intersection would go a long way to making this area suck less.

Re: Westminster Church

I like to have tall buildings and quality lower ones as well to open up spaces. Absolutely. If someone proposed tearing down City Center and replacing it with a beautiful, celebrity architect designed tower half as tall, I wouldn't mourn the lost floors, I'd celebrate the replacement of mediocrity ...

Re: St. Louis Park - General Topics

I hope that's not the case. Seems like a weird spot for a distribution center that's trying to emulate Amazon.

Re: Mall of America - Bloomington

I say this as someone who loves the moviegoing experience and would love to have convenient access to Alamo Drafthouse:

I'm never driving out to Woodbury to go to a movie.

Re: St. Louis Park - General Topics

That was my first thought, but the area is surrounded by light industrial. I'd be fine with it getting replaced with a HyVee laid out with the station in mind - something to bring people more people to this part of town than a club store. Around the border of the lot is an important connection for t...

Re: Mall of America - Bloomington

I clicked through that article to an older article on CMX's plans for American expansion. The admission cost is just that - admission.

Checking the Yelp reviews on some of the CMX cinemas already open, people aren't exactly happy with what they get for their money.

I can't believe they found someone to complain that replacing a gas station is harming neighborhood character.

Re: Mall of America - Bloomington

If that was the ticket price to an event, that would make sense. I would also pay $25 a ticket at a theater with actual ushers who removed and banned people who used phones during a screening. But short of that, no. I won't be paying $10 more than my usual theater to see a movie. I can't think of an...

Re: Fiber Internet and TV Services, Cord Cutting

I kind of wish someone offered a package where you could get a regular 40mbps-60mbps package with an option to turn on and off gigabit for when you actually need it. I do occasionally need to deliver large files for film and video reasons, but most of the time that speed would be overkill.

Be sure they actually offer it. They advertised it in our area but in reality only offered 20mbps of service.

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map

That line could have benefited from clarification but I didn't want to get into the weeds on local devs. But considering how tight the market is right now, it's surprising to me that the multifamily developers who work mostly in the suburbs for the most part haven't attempted to dip into the Minneap...

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map

There's another rebuttal to the original piece that was published alongside mine that focuses specifically on the 'zoning is a pact' claim. I'm hoping some meaningful zoning reform is something we'll get out of Frey's tenure. http://www.startribune.com/urban-density-zoning-rules-aren-t-written-in-st...
