Re: Minneapolis Population Growth - Onward to 500k!

Originally hailing from Columbus myself it's pretty insane to even consider a downtown population of 50k in a mid-size Midwestern city. Columbus is a city of 900k which is struggling to attain a downtown population of 10k as of this year. Proposals for any residential building 20 stories or taller ...

Re: Zoning in Minneapolis

Reading between the lines, "The metro is absorbing new units at the strongest pace since 2010." - Are we thinking this is going to signal to 2019 being a great population growth year for the cities? Inclusionary zoning's biggest irk to me is that I wouldn't consider the prices of the "affordable hou...

Having a split platform isn't ideal, but it's less dumb than, say, the two separate platforms at Target Field that every train stops at both of.

The building itself is pretty attractive. And high five for quality materials. I have a sample of that exact black brick sitting on my desk. Very pricey. Great choice.

The ARTery will honestly help establish the Hopkins Station as easily one of the best on the line and will make the walk from the station to the downtown seem extremely easy and pleasant. Very impressed with it.

Re: North Loop Green - Hines - 350 N 5th St(?) - 36 stories / ~400'(?)

I was an intern at Metro Transit in '13 and the Ford Center was the only building between where I got off the bus at the 5th Street garage and walked to Heywood that still exists.

Crazy.

Prefer this new version of 5th haha

Re: Washington and Portland Mixed Use - 22 stories

The TIF plan report does have what appears to be an updated rendering of the tower. I actually really liked the previous design so the new look is a bit disappointing in my opinion. Agreed, it's a minor adjustment, but I do prefer the darker material featured on the west side from the previous rend...

Re: Minneapolis Density and Population Growth (500k, etc)

Saying Columbus is bigger than Minneapolis in this context is not wrong but it not a serious comment and disqualifies them as a serious person. As someone who lived in Minneapolis and currently lives in Columbus, this drives me crazy. 1) Everyone here thinks Minneapolis is small, frigid, or has bar...

Yeah, and a project like this doesn't seem to be pancake stacked floor plans, likely meaning a ton of new work for the drawing set. 13/14 story is the "next step" above 6 so I'm feeling confident in it happening. The numbers tend to work in this range and justify the switch from Type 3a construction...

Re: D Line - Chicago-Fremont/Emerson Rapid Bus

You're right. Still, you could design the street section in such a way that this wasn't the case. And I suspect that it's a detail that even those who've been paying attention may not have fully understood, and one that might make a lot of people (present company of course excluded) upset when they...
