Re: RE: Re: Weyerhaueser site redevelopment - 700 Emerald St

I'm the one that posted in Nextdoor and have been working with SAPCC Land Use Committee working group on this. The original plans for the site involved just one acre park land, not contiguous (parceled up on site). The City, with pushes from neighborhood input, got a 2+ acre park on this site, that...

Re: RE: Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

We're trying to fix that! UPDC transpo comm will be requesting changes for the entire cretin ave corridor including that shitty wide radius turn. That would be lovely. I bike there a lot to get to the Merriam Park library with the kids and always feel so horribly vulnerable crossing Cretin. But oth...

Re: 2700 University Avenue Development

I have dreams of walking to a real cocktail bar, which are ever dashed. Don't get me wrong, I love all the craft breweries in biking distance. Coffee shops are great. But I long for a cozy cocktail bar for a cold martini in the summer or a Wisconsin brandy Old Fashioned in the winter, with orange bi...

Re: RE: Re: Prospect Park - General Topics

It seems unlikely that people arriving at Prospect Park Station by the community garden would walk all the way up to Malcolm to cross the transitway, even once the lovely planned Green 4th Street is lovely and green. If you're on foot or bike, you can already access the transitway from 29th Avenue,...

Re: Prospect Park - General Topics

I second the props to Peter Callaghan on the article. He delineation of the issues is very helpful. As far as transitway crossings go, the consensus in the neighborhood is that they are important to have. I'm torn and prefer to take a wait-and-see approach as the development plans solidify. Right no...

Re: Prospect Park - General Topics

The Planning Commission also apparent almost killed the Malcolm Yards proposal yesterday following a staff report recommending denying the move from "Industrial" to "Transitional Industrial" for the site, but there was vigorous neighborhood support of it at the meeting.

Re: Prospect Park - General Topics

It's at 3300 University Ave. SE. I don't think anything will be happening there too quickly, but I'd be surprised if there weren't some housing there as well. Unlike the development north of University, and even though it's still in the innovation district, it borders on Tower Park and the historic ...

Re: Prospect Park - General Topics

Another development happening in Prospect Park is that United Properties is apparently buying the Tierney building as well as the building next door housing Four Star Auto and Great Brakes, looking to put in specialty retail along the stretch.

Re: 117 27th Ave SE Apartments

The Park Board plans available online were outdated. What they are proposing now, rather than the previous bike path suggestion, is trading land alongside 27th as green space for when and if the Grand Rounds Missing Link is ever completed, in lieu of the park dedication fee. There'd be landscaped li...

Re: 117 27th Ave SE Apartments

There's a meeting on Thursday 2/9 at Luxton Park to talk about this proposed bikeway to apparently nowhere. (As far as I know, there hasn't been any agreement with the property owners on the north end.) 117 27th Ave. SE wants to use this potential bikeway to offset its park dedication fee, and there...

Re: University of Minnesota - General Topics & Development Map

Word at a meeting last week was that the court wasn't viewing the lawsuit to save the Electric Steel Elevators very favorably. The U's Metropolitan Design Center and several other architects had worked up concepts for several other sites for the sports bubble that were actually inside the University...

Re: University of Minnesota - General Topics & Development Map

I love the Electric Steel Elevators and will be sad to see them go without any serious effort to find an adaptive reuse. It's not been all that long since the site ceased operation (late 2014?), and in a presentation to the neighborhood, the owners who sold it to the U said that they had only sought...

Re: 1501 Como Ave Apartments

I lived on 12th Ave SE in Como for several years, and have a deep affection for the neighborhood and Van Cleve Park. While retail might have been more attractive to me than ground-floor residential on this corner, it's just the kind of development the neighborhood needs--small scale and friendly.

Re: Prospect Park - General Topics

In my experience as a landlord, the city inspectors have a much easier time enforcing parking violations like that than occupancy violations. It's visible, and the inspectors are out and about near the U area now. I'd call and lodge a complaint with them. If the see the violation, they will be in to...

Re: RISE at Prospect Park - 2929 University Ave SE

Between the U and the hospitals nearby, there's a solid market for furnished short-term rental, but probably on the lower end of the cost spectrum. There's a little bit of neighborhood opposition brewing for the 14-story tower, but I don't think it has much traction. I know there's a small group pla...

Re: RISE at Prospect Park - 2929 University Ave SE

I'm looking forward to Fresh Thyme as well. I love Seward Coop but hate biking back up the Franklin hill loaded down with groceries.

Did you hear that the extended-stay hotel has been axed by the developer and that now the number of apartments has been upped to 336?

Re: WaHu Student Housing - 1000 Washington Avenue SE

Dinkytown has that new donut place with the funny name, sssdude-nutz, so this area seems like the better choice in my book if there's to be an international chain going in. The scale of these WaHu buildings in cheerfully enormous.

Re: RISE at Prospect Park - 2929 University Ave SE

Jeff Barnhardt said at Monday's neighborhood meeting that the idea was to have the surface lot for Fresh Thyme integrate with Green 4th to create a large space that could be used for community gatherings. The daycare there has already secured space in another of Barnhardt's buildings nearby. Even wi...
