Re: Midtown Greenway

Well I've been told by Minnesota Commercial (the railroad that operates over that bridge) employees it can handle two trains stacked on top of each other. Pretty sure if collapse was imminent there wouldn't be a train crossing over it. I think we learned from the 35W Bridge collapse.

Re: Rush Line Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

I think when the Chicago El named one of their lines the Brown Line it stirred a lot of controversy since it served a dominantly African American area. Might be one reason why we went with Gold Line instead of Yellow Line, just so we don't get into more controversy than we already have (I hope I don...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project

How much capacity is currently being used on the Marq2 corridor through downtown? There are already bus backups during rush hour, and with high frequency service the Orange Line will make this even worse, will it not?

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha LRT)

Is that the spur that connects with the Minnesota Commercial? I noticed they dumped new ballast there and the switch onto the northbound Blue Line track is permanent (used to be disconnected and only connected for railcar deliveries).

Re: Fantasy maps

Tiller, very nice and organized! Would it be alright if I used it as a base for the next version of my transit map? Here is my current one-https://www.flickr.com/photos/141802592 ... ed-public/. As you can see its a bit disorganized.

I'm not nit picky, but will other people think "it doesn't serve the Vikings Stadium or Paisley Park!"

Noticed a C Line test bus in downtown Minneapolis during rush hour today. New Flyer articulated bus in the A Line paint scheme.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

How far could we get with non-federal funding and then just have a bus bridge between where it ends and Eden Prairie?

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail

TCW started work on the bridge in 2015 or 2016. I think most, if not all, of the work has been finished. From what I've been told by TCW crew they're waiting on the new wye track in St. Louis Park so it'll be much easier to operate grain trains between the MN&S and their own trackage. The new wye wi...

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail

Yesterday was the second "community conversation" on the Dan Patch Corridor in Edina. Here is the report on the first meeting-https://www.edinamn.gov/DocumentCenter/View/3506 Obviously these meetings attract more opposition than supporters, but I'm curious if there are any surveys out there that sho...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

This route and those stations are only about development, not connecting the North Side. The Met Council found a piss poor excuse by claiming it benefits North Minneapolis. I won't fight tooth and nail to stop this route as certain groups have tried, but I'm not going to pretend this will benefit No...

Here's my Duluth transit improvements-https://www.google.com/maps/@46.7632133,-93.9301067,7z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!6m1!1s1X57cHyY7xQLT3zcvKmGJeGAQLU0 Duluth BRT System: All BRT routes would be high frequency (at least every 15 minutes all day on weekdays and Saturdays). Stations would have ticket vendin...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

Did anyone go to the "Reimagine the Railway" meetings? Depending on the chosen alignment for Riverview it would be great to have an express DMU service on the Ford Spur between the Ford Site and SPUD. There are existing segments of welded rail so I wonder if upgrades would be minor to have DMUs oper...

Re: Transitways in other Minnesota cities?

How long would the concrete last before potholes start popping up (or should I say down?) and then the ride quality is really bad? Not that I oppose BRT, but in some places rail is better and in other places bus/BRT is better. Assuming a Duluth transitway serves UMD, Scholastica, Miller Hill Mall, a...

Re: Transitways in other Minnesota cities?

Do you have a link to his specific proposal/route? Going all the way from Spirit Mountain to UMD seems very impractical if its only going to be in one direction. I'm not an expert on travel patterns in Duluth nor the geography, but it seems some type of transitway on Grand Avenue and then Superior S...

Transitways in other Minnesota cities?

Years ago I remember reading about a proposal for light rail in Rochester, I believe connecting between downtown and Rochester International Airport. Nothing developed since then, though I wonder if the Mayo expansion could spur discussion again. Now an at-large Duluth city council candidate is prop...

Re: A Line - Arterial Rapid Bus

I took it to the fair from 46th and it seemed fine. Interestingly they took an older Gillig bus and retrofitted it to be an A Line bus. Not sure if it's only that one or if there are more and if it's just for the fair or permanent. Did ridership spike last year during the fair or did it remain the s...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Why does the wall have to be that high?

I know damn well there are plenty of examples of electric passenger trains sharing tracks with freight trains, particularly in Europe. Yes their freight trains are lighter, but so are their passenger trains.

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail

Is there a Google map that has the rail line highlighted? It would be really neat to get a better visual on a google map where I can bookmark and keep looking back for reference. Has anyone already done this? Hopefully this link works-https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1mbMTcGJr95q3soJRhQs9PUDq...
