Well Three Rivers, Hennepin, Met Council have it on their bike trail comprehensive plans.
So does Dakota County, and the railroad (CP) said no even though a train hasn't been on that route in 20 years.

Re: St. Louis Park - General Topics

Not even one mention of possible passenger rail on the MN&S? They do know MnDOT has this route on their passenger rail plan, right?

At least they aren't assuming CP will abandon it and a rail-trail will be put in like Bloomington and Burnsville are.

Re: Ford Plant Redevelopment - Highland Park

Is CP planning to abandon it? A couple of the railroad crossings have been paved over so it seems like any day now they will. And will that also be developed at some point?

Re: Ford Plant Redevelopment - Highland Park

Why is a large chunk of the Ford Rail Yard not developed in those renderings? Saving it for green space, a park, or something else (besides a trail and maybe transitway)?

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project

Having looked at the redevelopment plans for Burnsville Center, which you can find here (its the October 9th City Council Work Session): http://www.ci.burnsville.mn.us/index.aspx?nid=158, I'm wondering how the Orange Line will be routed assuming this is how the development will look. Seems like, com...

Re: Suburban Malls and Associated Retail News

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but what are they doing on the southern side of EP Center? I drove past yesterday and saw some demolition and construction work.

I like the original plan more, and of particular in...

Starting October 13, several stops will be eliminated to speed up route #2. Glad to see some 1/4mi stop spacing in action. We should do this system-wide.

*Except in the suburbs. We need all the bus stops we can get.

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)

I'm still not getting what this "LOOP" is... an extension from Union Depot to Smith Ave that crosses downtown and doesn't force a transfer to the Green Line? That's not a loop, that's an extension. And it makes sense. Know what else makes sense and would drive ridership? Extending it to Minneapolis...

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)

What is the projected ridership of the Gold Line? IIRC it is in the 5-7k range. A 2% increase in project budget that results in a 10-20% increase in ridership is a steal at twice the price. Why, exactly, wouldn’t we want to do this? Like Silophant said, to make people go through Union Depot so it l...

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)

Its not very convenient transferring from a bus at Union Depot to the Green Line and vice versa, so it doesn't make much sense to end it there and require people to transfer to get to their downtown jobs. The Gold Line should keep running on local streets through Downtown St. Paul and have a stop by...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

What happened to the issue over the railroad historic district or whatever the hell it was called? The area that's just gravel pits, an impound lot, a train track, a trail, and a crumbling retaining wall.

Why were they required to dig only at Royalston and not other places, or the entire route?

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project

If we can build an online station for a route with minuscule ridership four years after it opened (the Red Line) then we can do it for a route that will be much more successful.

When the Orange Line starts operating will it continue to be referred to as 98th Street Station? Seems odd when it already has the name South Bloomington Transit Center.

Re: Fantasy maps

It would be split into local and regional service. For example on the Dan Patch Corridor between Minneapolis and Albert Lea the regional service would operate the whole route with 12 stops while the local service would operate as far south as Downtown Lakeville with 11 stops.

Re: Fantasy maps

Silophant is correct. All of those destinations would be served by BRT or LRT on my rapid transit map which you can find on the previous page of this thread. This is only regional rail, which makes less stops and mostly uses active or abandoned railroad right-of-way. As for the Ring Line not serving...
