Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

I bet Northstar was considered fantasy, and look what happened.

Reopening the Great Northern Depot or Milwaukee Road Depot in downtown to passenger trains is fantasy, but what we’ve been discussing is well within the realm of reality.

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

This long conversation belongs in Fantasy Maps or Intercity Rail. Nothing to do with Metro Transit's Northstar... How does this not have to do with Northstar? Whatever changes are made to Target Field Station or a new regional rail hub for Minneapolis would very much have an impact on Northstar. Wh...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

West Minneapolis would be mainly intended for through-routing east/west not north/south. A couple of examples being Wayzata-West MPLS-SPUD-Stillwater and Northfield-West MPLS-SPUD-Hastings. East Minneapolis would be used by trains going north/south from/to SPUD (SPUD-St. Cloud for example) in additi...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

Getting Rid of the 394 ramps into downtown would be a nightmare for the ABC ramps. Unless your plan is to also demolish them as well. It sure would be progressive towards a car-less downtown, interesting idea but a bit unrealistic in today's climate. Not trying to put down your ideas, and dreams.. ...

Re: St. Louis Park - General Topics

It’s an improvement, though two complaints I have are the gap between Park Center Boulevard and the Highway 100 ramp, and the off-street bike facility between Park Center Boulevard and Belt Line. I don’t trust motorists to stop before the crosswalk as they usually go as far forward as they can to se...

Re: Bike Share

This was a year ago and a couple times I took a bike that wasn’t attached to a dock. You could leave it at a designated spot that didn’t have a dock but I don’t remember if you got charged extra.

Re: Bike Share

When I was in Copenhagen I preferred the ebikes that weren’t docked. It was sometimes a struggle getting them out of the dock.

Re: Bike Share

My e-bike makes riding around hilly West Bloomington so much easier. You know those really hot days where just standing outside makes you sweat? Well with my e-bike I can ride around and still not be drenched in sweat.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

In regards to no access to the Cahill neighborhood besides a desire path (that I've used occasionally) why didn't they build a sidewalk , or less preferably, a crosswalk across 70th Street to access the existing sidewalk on the north side of the road?

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

So SPUD is too far from the major activity center to be any good for commuter-type operations. It's fine for things like Amtrak. But there really are a lot of places where a west-side commuter rail terminal could be developed in the unlikely event that commuter rail ever actually demanded it. I thi...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

No reason we can’t have two rail hubs; one in Minneapolis and one in St. Paul. Plenty of European cities do this.

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

That ship sailed when we allowed the Great Northern Depot to be redeveloped. The current tracks are oriented the wrong way. We want east-west alignment to best facilitate commuter rail. I am not sure how we would get that now. Backing up along the current alignment and using the existing wye to hea...

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

I’ll move the discussion over here in regards to the recent proposed development adjacent to Target Field Station and what the impacts are for future commuter/intercity rail operations. Before the stadium was built there was easily enough land for a European style train hub, now not even close. I ge...

Re: I'm on a Boat!

I can think of at least 4 cities that use a river for public transportation, but I don’t know if it’s year-round or seasonal.

I do like the idea of a summer-only river shuttle between Nicollet or Boom Island and somewhere in northern Minneapolis.
