Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

I would only support sharrows if they went above and beyond in traffic calming. I believe the Dutch have examples of bikes and cars sharing the road but bikes get priority.

Re: Fantasy maps

Regarding tram-trains, I wonder if the light rail infrastructure (switches, station platforms, the trains themselves, etc.) would need to be modified to accommodate regional trains (by regional trains I mean self-propelled rolling stock that you commonly see in Europe, not giant diesel locomotives w...

Re: Maple Grove - General Topics

Thanks Arbor Lakes, I hate it.

I hope someday the area can be a lot more pedestrian and biker friendly. My friend and I used to walk around there all the time and looking back on it I realize it wasn't the most pleasant experience, especially along Elm Creek Boulevard and crossing that car sewer.

Re: Fantasy maps

I don't know where to put this so I'll just put it here. Awhile back I asked about the ability of regional trains to share track with Southwest LRT trains. Besides needing clearance from the FRA and railroads (and FTA?) what infrastructure would be required? I'm thinking a tram-train operation from ...

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit

Also the A Line has several exceptions to that guideline. A couple station spacings are less than a third of a mile and quite a few are more than half a mile. I don’t see why Lake & France should get the double standard especially since B Line buses will be on layover there.

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit

I emailed the people working on the B Line about extending the western terminus to Lake & France. They said that wasn’t considered because of their “station spacing guidelines” which requires stops every third- to half-mile (between France and West Lake Station is 0.2 miles). This is despite the fac...

Re: Mall of America Transit Station

Is anyone else concerned about MoA Station being a possible health hazard? The diesel fumes from buses combined with people smoking (despite it not being allowed) has scared me away from using it.

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project

And it was only a few years ago I saw 2019 as the intended opening year. Maybe they should just say "we don't know" when asked when it'll open, or put TBD for startup year. That way they don't have to try to dance around the fact that they're a couple years off schedule.

Rant over.

Re: Electric Scooters

I looked through this thread but didn't see anything, when did Bird drop out? I thought I read they were only in St. Paul and I wanted to use up the rest of my credits but now the closest city appears to be St. Louis!

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit

This is a little old but it shows Route 53 being replaced. https://www.metrotransit.org/Data/Sites ... s/lake.pdf

That conflicts with the Service Improvement Plan, which proposed Route 53 operating in both directions during rush hour.

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit

I think skipping the Midway zigzag will be fine. Love that this extension to downtown St. Paul is getting done, makes me think about the terminus at the west end being the West Lake station, why not go one more stop west for the turnaround at France/Lake Street/25 where there is an apartment neighb...

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail

One thing that needs to happen is to build more of a base in the MSP region for these services rather than relying on individual regions in Greater MN to lobby for their lines. This. The Greater MN regions all are absolutely auto-dependent so a train into the Cities, while nice for commuters or cas...

Has anyone tried MVTA Connect? I did between two random areas in Burnsville and it worked pretty well. I only had to wait 15 minutes for the bus.

A stadium not on an LRT line...
If they build it next to the Union Pacific line we could change that. ;)

Re: Fantasy maps

It'll be interesting if one of these routes could work. Did the Northstar have a circulating bus? Second scooters and bikes provide competition of the year. I noticed a lady taking a scooter to hear car near the Metro Transit garage on 7th yesterday. The Northstar had Route 20, which was discontinu...

Re: E Line Arterial BRT

Southwest LRT and the E Line are two completely different routes. In addition to connections south to Edina an ABRT route on France to Excelsior would also provide connections to Uptown and along Hennepin Avenue. Yeah the B Line will provide connections from West Lake to Uptown, but I'd rather have ...

Re: E Line Arterial BRT

It's a bit of a complex route, but the rationale does make sense and it hopefully will still be fairly straightforward to navigate with the exception of the segment between France and Hennepin. Hopefully they have a concrete plan to keep the buses moving through that section smoothly, because that'...
