Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Might be an obvious question, but does the full weekend closure have to do with the amount of time it takes to repair the tracks? Could the repairs be done quicker if there were more manpower? Can we have non-topic comments put into Anything Goes, or have a catch-all Transit area? I would say that ...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Every transit project that has reached the milestone Southwest LRT has has received their federal funding. And if what the Met Council says is true in that delaying the tree cutting could impact the federal funding commitment, then we’re just going to have to cut down the trees and have faith in the...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

What are the chances the tree cutting in the Kenilworth Corridor is delayed? A petition with 2,900 signatures was delivered to Walz’s office asking to delay the tree cutting until funding is 100% certain (even though at this point it’s very near certain we’ll get the funding).

Re: D Line - Chicago-Fremont/Emerson Rapid Bus

I don't know about Chicago, but Emerson and Fremont are pretty narrow. I tried the 5 through North Minneapolis in the winter and it was a tight squeeze with all the snow we got, so my main concern is how the D Line will perform after heavy snowfall.

I hope they give 21st Street Station an actual name. Kenwood Station seems appropriate.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Southwest Prime would be my best guess. Basically the public transit version of Uber and Lyft. There are proposals/plans for multiple circulator routes within Eden Prairie with at least one serving the Golden Triangle area but I won’t hold my breathe on those being successful if they even get implem...

Re: Green Line LRT

I’m guessing that means we’re no longer considered to have a 24 hour service light rail since it’s overnight bus service instead.

Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

For those who wondered what Northstar Link (the bus bridge to St. Cloud) ridership is here it is from September 2016. http://catchthelink.com/downloads/rider ... tation.pdf

Not as bad as I feared it would be, though I wonder if it's gone down since then.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

For road crossings they're required to sound two long blasts, one short blast, and another long blast.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Although this is a much shorter construction zone, it shows trains giving short blasts as they pass through:

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

It could (key word could) mean just some short blasts through the construction zone, not a full blast all the way through the construction zone.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

The continuous welded rail being delivered May 13th is for the TC&W's new track, not for light rail.

Re: Labeling the Transit System

In theory BRT like the Orange Line and LRT are supposed to be "rapid transit" and are meant for traveling greater distances, while aBRT is meant to be an improved alternative to local buses. In practice it's a distinction without a difference. You could call the A Line the Mauve Line or call the Re...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

The north leg of the switching wye connecting the Bass Lake Spur and MN&S Spur has a derail boot and out-of-service tag. From what I’ve been told construction on the new southerly wye will start this summer or definitely next year.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

I took some video along the Cedar Lake and Kenilworth Trails last weekend. And I have at least a hundred photos along the route between Minneapolis and Hopkins. Will be interesting to look back and see how it’s changed, for better or worse. I don’t doubt that the Kenwood area will be very different ...

I'm curious how many of the trees they're removing are buckthorn or other invasive species.

Some people really aren't going to quit until this thing is finished aren't they?

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

I can’t find the article, but I read that Tim Walz wants to open one bus line per year for the next 10 years due in part to raising the motor vehicle sales tax. A few of the lines include 169 BRT between Shakopee and Hopkins or Minneapolis, Red Line South extension, Orange Line south extension, High...

Any plans for a proper transit station at Ridgedale, or will buses stay on the same routing after all of this is done?

Re: Northern Lights Express

Nothing wrong with that idea, but do the lines not meet anywhere in Minneapolis that might make a good hub with better transit access? Northeast Minneapolis at Broadway & Central would be your best bet. The only issue is land constraints, likely needing to rebuild the intersection, and optimally ha...
