Re: Northstar Commuter Rail

Ever wondered what it would be like if Northstar ran to St. Paul? Wonder no more! Metro Transit is operating a Holiday Special Northstar train between Big Lake and SPUD. Its free, and first come first serve. https://www.metrotransit.org/northstar-holiday-train-goes-to-union-depot- Should be using BN...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project

Also on the bright side is a direct trail connection between the Lake Street Station and Midtown Greenway. Many times I've carried my bike up and down the steps to/from the "bus stop" on 35W, and either option to get to the Greenway wasn't great; bike along Lake Street to 1st Avenue to Nicollet, or ...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

If buses can be rerouted and the travel time is less or the same as Nicollet Mall then I fully support a pedestrian-only Nicollet Mall (as long as people can still bike through there). Considering buses go 15 miles per hour maximum on that stretch it probably wouldn't be too difficult.

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail

I was at the meetings too and voiced my support through the comment sheets and talking to the mayor and transit planner face to face. I'm nervous enough speaking in crowds, so a hostile one I avoid if possible. TCW wouldn't even need to run 20 trains per day, just 2 per day will trigger the NIMBYS. ...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

So does this mean Blue Line trains will fly past the stops in between MOA and U.S. Bank Stadium, or will they crawl through the stations and then get back up to speed? Would be cool to see what an express Blue Line service would look like.

Labeling the Transit System

Seeing as we don't have a thread on this topic and it seems to come up whenever a BRT, LRT, or streetcar route is designated I thought I would bring the discussion here. My opinion is this: The Metro System (including BRT) gets a color. Yes that includes the Red Line, even though its a glorified bus...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

If true streetcar like the Nic/Central Line ever becomes reality I'd like to see it be designated with S and a number. So for Nic/Central it would route S1, then the next route would be S2, etc. Metro (including Riverview and Greenway)-color Regular buses-number Arterial rapid bus-letter Streetcar-S#

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

One of the bridge abutments the document refers to was for a railroad trestle for the Dan Patch Line (later MN&S) and Electric Short Line. The bridge was for their downtown terminal used by passengers until the late 1940s and freight until the 1980s. While its cool to see part of it still existing, ...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Sounds like a good time to share my opinion article for those who haven't read it-http://www.startribune.com/southwest-light-rail-dos-and-don-ts/444760443/ To sum it up these are the major hiccups in the planning process: -encroaching development on railroad right-of-way -assuming a railroad will ac...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

Does anyone have experience with similar LRT or streetcar systems in other cities? Is this amount of shutdown time common or an anomaly? The only other experience I've had with LRT/tram shutdown is in Oslo where a station was closed for a few months.

Re: Wooddale Station Area / PLACE Proposal - St. Louis Park

Horns are required now. This crossing is intended to get the whistle free crossing upgrades as part of the SWLRT work. I have a vague memory of being told there are eight or so crossings per day average and it’s going up. That was about five years ago. I've heard 3-4 freight trains per day, though ...

Re: Wooddale Station Area / PLACE Proposal - St. Louis Park

Just hide the freight tracks, thats totally fine. Hopefully residents know what to expect instead of somehow being surprised and demanding the freight trains go away.

Re: Discontinued Bus Routes

While driving I noticed a park & ride sign at Girard Avenue & Old Shakopee Road/98th Street in Bloomington. In terms of access its nice if you're going westbound, but if you had to go eastbound all I can say is good luck. Its next to a rail line, but as far as I know there have not been any consider...

Re: Pedestrian Safety and Infrastructure Improvements

http://www.startribune.com/bloomington-pedestrian-hit-by-car-dies-of-his-injuries/452101553/ I am very familiar with that area. No way motorists will stop even with signs and crosswalk markings, and the fact that motorists often drive 40 miles per hour through there even though the speed limit is 35...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

I can see why they would cut it. Only four trips and they're westbound in the morning only and eastbound in the evening only. I know they want to get reverse commuters, but does this area really have the employment density?

Hope the Red Route is doing well.

Re: Dan Patch Intercity Regional Passenger Rail

I believe it was mentioned that this gag order is the only known law of its kind in this country. I assume they mean specifically banning a passenger rail line from being studied and built by the state and regional government. Whether or not this is true its very un-democratic and just shows that yo...

I'm hoping for ABRT on the current Route 46 between 50th & France and Sibley Plaza. It could use the Ford Spur as a dedicated segment between the Ford Site and West 7th.

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

I'm hoping as well that they just use the same LRVs on Riverview, but just one or two car trains. Much easier operationally and establishes commonality in the light rail fleet. Although I wonder if the trains on Riverview will require flashing hazards and turn signals as I've seen on other tram/stre...

Re: Riverview Corridor (Alternatives Analysis)

Enough with the Midtown Corridor. There's already a thread on it, go discuss it there. This is about Riverview.

Anyways, what will Riverview be named? The glorified bus on Cedar Avenue/Highway 77 got a color, so I think Riverview deserves a color.
