Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
I thought for sure the golf course would be out and the trails would be extend and connect to the ones around Nokomis. Bummer.

Re: Southside - General Topics
Following on the heels of Blackbird closing, The City Market suddenly closed and Dragon Wok posted on Facebook that they're moving to another location. That's a lot of change on that side of 38th & Nicollet going on now. I just hope there aren't plans to empty out and tear down this perfectly go...

Re: Minneapolis Population Growth - Onward to 500k!
A little harsh... ex Minneapolitan, now Columbusian - I would argue Short North is more vibrant and walkable than Uptown, North Loop, or NE. Yes they lack the fancy stuff (trains and bike lanes) but the city is rapidly urbanizing. I would say its about 15 years behind Minneapolis in amenities. They...

Re: Minneapolis Population Growth - Onward to 500k!
Originally hailing from Columbus myself it's pretty insane to even consider a downtown population of 50k in a mid-size Midwestern city. Columbus is a city of 900k which is struggling to attain a downtown population of 10k as of this year. Proposals for any residential building 20 stories or taller h...

Re: Downtown Riverfront - Mill Ruins Park - Waterworks
There are just too many more compelling projects that could use that money instead: extending the greenways as mentioned earlier along (NE especially) and across the Mississippi, bridge the highway gap on Washington between Downtown and Seven Corners with a park cap that includes fountains and maybe...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
I don't see how we're missing the elephant in the room which is that Prime 6 was nearly a whopping *12,000 sq ft*!! No wonder Hennepin isn't that vibrant when you have bloated turds like this taking up all of the space leaving no room for small interesting local businesses to open up. You could make...

I just hope that they trim some stops on the 6 in the meantime so that it's at least a bit quicker to reach Linden Hills from Downtown.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Rode the whole stretch just now. Couple of things: the old sharrows are awkwardly positioned in the right lane and bike lane with half of the symbols all rubbed off from car tires and the highway bridge section shouldn't have cyclists shift to the right. Not that much at least: add a buffer and/or w...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
New bike lanes on LaSalle just south of Grant: not buffered like north of Grant and pretty narrow especially when a food truck is parked in front of Lakes & Legends. I'll take it I guess.

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction / E Line (Uptown to Downtown)
I'd still like to see mid-block crosswalks. When developers build these new downtown mega projects they include things like this which existing downtowns largely refuse. Developers know that you need narrow streets, lots of marked crosswalks, and low speeds (the street below is posted at 25 MPH) and...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Rode stretches of the new bike lanes on 24th between Hennepin and 3rd. I'm happy with it overall, quite of bit of it is curbside bike lanes. Wouldn't mind improvements north-south east of Nicollet in Whittier; still don't like the 1st Ave bike lanes scrunched up against parked cars.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Any word on fixing the Blue Line to A Line transfer at 46th St Station southbound? Like clockwork the empty A Line bus pulls off as the Blue Line shows up. Who's genius idea was that and why don't they have the drivers wait a few seconds for people to get off the Blue Line and onto the empty bus?

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
10k sq ft to replace Asian Taste, Ryan's Pub, Market BBQ, Salsa a la Salsa and Upper Cuts? Is that enough for another five businesses at least or are we repeating south of Nicollet by adding lots more people while simultaneously making the area a lot less walkable? Oh well, just gonna be lots more c...

Re: D Line - Fremont/Emerson/Chicago Rapid Bus
There's no reason whatsoever to bypass 48th & Chicago. Nodes like this have stops all over the A Line. Yes Ford & Cleveland doesn't have a stop, true, but instead there's *two* stations a block east and west of there (Finn and Kenneth) so there's no excuse that stations couldn't be just a bl...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
I'd like to see the Masa spot filled in soon, but first I'd like to see the three storefronts it takes up split into to three separate storefronts. Nicollet Mall needs a lot more destinations.

Re: 1500 Nicollet Avenue - Dominium Development - 6 stories / 184 units
Then you get the highway, then an empty lot. If someone were to build on those two lots that would be a bit less of a barren connection to the rest of the stuff on Nicollet in Stevens Square. Crossing the freeway wouldn't be so bad if there was something immediately at the end of it. True, but that...

Re: 1500 Nicollet Avenue - Dominium Development - 6 stories / 184 units
This is such a stupid development. In addition to the other 5 story apartment across the street there's going to be a lot more residents with a lot less to walk to. Every time I pass by I see the half dozen storefronts still standing and hope that the project is about to be taken off of life support...

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
Not only are the unheated bus stations nice to look at, the signal prioritization for buses is a nice touch too.
