West Elm store coming to this project. Hotel is still not certain.
Hotel is happening.
But not here
To the same location as the West Elm store? No. To the location this entire thread is about? Yes.

The City of Lakes and Minneapolis Public Service buildings are good remnants of the period. I only hope they can find someone that would want to use them with out destroying the shells.
I'm in the camp of tear the Public Service building down. I dread every time I have to go in that building.

Re: Federal Reserve Riverfront Parking Ramp

So ridiculous, there is literally a parking ramp another government group wants to tear down. We would be better off letting them use that instead of building a new ramp. Tearing it down to make a wider connection to the riverfront don't seem that amazing of a plan that it be worth wasting money te...

1. No, we should not have gas stations downtown. You can fill up literally anywhere else.
2. The best way to get these sites redeveloped is a land value tax.
I tried to fill up at Whole Foods but they wouldn't let me....

I really hope we see two buildings on this space, so we can fix that sharp turn on the Cedar Lake Trail! However still leave a trail ending segment to go over the railroad bridge that one day when were ready to expand the trail across the river. .000000001% chance of that ever happening. They'll ne...

Re: Rafter - 333 Hennepin Ave E (290' - 26 stories)

And when we enter into a recession, or if lenders merely become increasingly uneasy over concern that one might begin, you can bet that the ranks of pretty buildings that don't exist will grow. Fixed. At this point I'm hoping as many projects as possible break ground and get vertical before the eco...

https://www.apnews.com/c9c940d4b2544facaf60ea18dc03e0da A fire killed 5 children at a daycare over the weekend. I get that it would be nice to stick something like this up on the second floor of a building, but there's a reason most daycare centers are located on the first floor. State regulations c...

And downtown daycares should strongly be encouraged if you want to continuing bringing more residents in.
I just asked if the first floor was appropriate. Nobody’s talking about banning daycare downtown.
Did I say you were? No.

First floor is absolutely appropriate for a daycare /thread.

Re: Thrivent Headquarters Block - 6th St and Portland Ave

Is daycare a good use for a first floor? As opposed to a second or higher floor? Yes. Imagine trying to evacuate a daycare with infants and toddlers using stairs verses a door straight to the sidewalk. This. And downtown daycares should strongly be encouraged if you want to continuing bringing more...

Idk if Metro Transit can afford all the tickets they'd get. I always find it interesting how many buses I see running red lights and blocking the box, especially on 6th as they cross Marquette. If the Hennepin Ramp didn't have a lot of it's parking chewed up by the Maverick, it would probably be totally adequate. That ramp used to have an overabundance of capacity, but I'm told that there is now a waitlist for monthly parking. They did raise rates recently, so that may open up some space.

Also, my (maybe wrong) understanding is that many of the new apartment projects (the Archive, 310 Lofts) with oversized garages will be providing public parking in them, like a couple of the buildings in Uptown do. I know Archive will have 1 floor dedicated to outside parking. The original intent w...

If people are circling around the block trying to find an available parking spot, then the price of parking is too low. That's a basic Donald Shoup principle. While that is part of the problem one of the bigger issues is lack of enforcement for vehicles staying in a spot for multiple time durations...

It would be great if someone would come up with an appropriate way to dress the two exposed ends of the parking ramp.
Tearing it down completely and building buildings at both ends would do the trick.
It would have been nice if they didn’t attach the damn thing to the Maverick apartment
