Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
We might want to focus for now on getting an elevated bikeway across the Mississippi to extend the Greenway to St. Paul. Honestly, I don't really see the benefits of having it here given that we have the Grand Rounds and rail trails. You would want a really dense area with limited free land. Althoug...

Re: Ritz Residences - 365 Nicollet Mall (334' - 30 stories)
Found the below excerpt in the main packet sent to the city. It appears we'll have to wait until phase II for the skyway connection to the library. I'm curious, if they were to get things moving quickly with phase II could they use the same crane? "The site has been identified as a key redevelo...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
I haven't notice more people biking on the sidewalks, but then I work on the edge of the Downtown core. I think we need more bike police/officers walking the beat. I'll be fine with them educating/warning people. Overall in Minneapolis we at least need some bike ambassadors or etc. even on the Green...

Re: Thrivent's Surface Parking Lots
I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. There's potential. Most likely it'll look like the Kraus-Anderson block. Given that United Properties can't get their Nicollet project off the ground and Ryan's office tower on top of the parking ramp hasn't said a peep in awhile the market here does...

Re: Edina Crossroads Project - 7200, 7201, 7250 France
A ton of "locals" do convert to the street and ignore the Sabo bridge including myself. During rush hour it's common to see a gathering of bikes waiting to cross Hiawatha at the 28th street light. It's way quicker, even with waiting for the light. Personally, I think they need to change th...

Re: Thrivent's Surface Parking Lots
This proposal seems to be part of something larger. Or at least I hope. It doesn't make sense for Thrivent to simply add more parking capacity on this lot, unless it's part of a larger project which will have demands for the parking. Perhaps the skyway connections toward HCMC is a clue to something ...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
The 4th street concept looks really nice. I use the current lanes often to exit Downtown via the Hiawatha trail. I'm wondering where the buses will go however?

I didn't have a camera on me, but there are some interesting shots to be had from the skyway to the stadium of this project and it's friend across the street when I walked over there today. The view is pretty neat over there. You can also see Legacy rising near the river.

Re: Thrivent's Surface Parking Lots
That the city is going to be taking down a nearby ramp for their new consolidated building may have played into Thrivent's plans. Everything seems connected. That a skyway may be extending toward HCMC is really exciting.

Re: Ironclad Apartments & Moxy Hotel - Washington & Chicago
It would have been nice if this project had some sort of connection linking the Hiawatha trail to Washington/Riverfront through 9th Ave. I've always wanted a solid connection between the river trails and the Hiawatha trail.

Re: L&H Station - Hennepin County - Minneapolis Public Schools site
They've started work on the new MPS building. The pile driver has assisted my alarm clocks the past few mornings. Unfortunately the construction trailer has been already covered in graffiti...something the neighborhood struggles with.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
I think E-bikes are starting to catch on in Mpls. I see more and more of them. People seem to like them because their gadgety and remove the perception that biking is a lot of work. With that said, I'm not sure how I feel about them on bike infrastructure and seem to see a lot of fat-bike electric b...

Perhaps they'll appreciate the World's Fair/Expo next door instead? It seems that often in America we believe in the freedom to make our own choices, until a neighbor makes a choice we don't like then we have all the rights and feel obliged to infringe on someone else's freedom.

Is it just me, or do the community pictures they want on the side of the storage facility look way out of place for the rest of the building? It looks like they pasted a giant polaroid randomly on the a couple sides.

Re: Homeless tent city along the Hiawatha Bike Trail?
Looks like they're fully established under the bridge with tents now, instead of adjacent. I saw them waking up this morning on my morning commute. Honestly, they seem more like drifters than the average homeless person. They seem to have a bit more means than the average homeless group. We can't as...

Re: Crime
It seems to me that it's worthwhile for the city to look into changing the built environment to deter crime. Place planters in doorways unused at night, unclutter sightlines when possible and make sure the area is lit more intensely than average by LED's. This won't stop catcalling, but it might hel...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
I agree with the curb cuts. I live in an 12 unit building and our parking is off of the alley. It's nice as a resident given that it's easier to exit the alley than deal with the traffic in front of our building. It also provides some space for the kids to bike around and play without worrying about...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
The cycletracks on Park/Portland also have the issue of cars coming out of the ramps stopping on them. Whenever I try to use them on my commute home I have to veer around a vehicle. It seems like putting a small speed bump or something to indicate to the driver where they need to stop might be useful

Re: Nicollet-Central Streetcar
Theoretically, you could minimize the curves in the tracks by going through the middle of the street and ignoring the traffic lanes. But, I don't see how that would work with buses. Although, I doubt the streetcars would reach a speed high enough on the Mall to make the curves an issue.

I use 5th street as a Bicycle Blvd for my commute..an okay number of cars use it to get into the ramps by the Hennepin County Government Center. One of those ramps is going to be torn down however for the new city offices.
