Re: Bike Share

What is the justification for maximum assisted speeds above the average biking speed we want on city streets, of 10 mph or so? Why do we care how fast people bike on city streets? Trails have speed limits, but I don't think streets do. And 10 mph is pretty slow. I'm super slow and I average more th...

I could see a full grocery on the edge of Downtown near Washington Ave/35 doing good business and attracting U of M students and Downtown dwellers even more than TJ already does.

I'm not sure why the other two have them open year-round. I've hardly seen anyone go into them. Especially the Target Field Store...not many people shopping there recently.

If Mayo wanted to expand their presence here it'll be a good purchase for them and put them near the U for collaboration

Re: Suburbs - General Topics

I heard Coon Rapids wanted a more positive name and the City of Blaine is named after a corrupt Maine politician. With that said it would make more sense for Coon Rapids/Andover to merge or Blaine with Ham Lake or some of the small suburbs to their south since the roads flow north/south. Hilltop/Col...

Re: Federal Reserve Riverfront Parking Ramp

It seems to me that it'll be pretty simply to add some apartments alongside or on top of this project. I run along the trail often and personally I see it as a potentially nice place to live. Potentially it could be a project resembling, but hopefully better looking than the Shamrock projects on the...

I was biking past First Covenant this week and it looks like they broke ground on their project in a major way, unless the hole is for a different project.

Shipt is grabbing 60,000 sq ft in a tower in Birmingham with it's name on top. Given that Target owns them it would have been nice to have had them move here. Labor is probably cheaper there however. https://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2019/01/07/target-owned-shipt-plans-big-expansion-in.html

Re: Gateway Tower (RBC/Four Seasons) - 37 stories - 503'

Maybe they could make the sign "Iconic," maybe place, "RBC," on a giant spire or architectural element on the top? Or maybe a giant neon sign like the Gold Medal Flour and Grain Belt Beer signs on the river.

Re: C Line - Penn Avenue North Rapid Bus

I'm moving a few blocks from this line. I'll probably rarely take it Downtown given that it's too easy to take my bike down the Plymouth Ave protected bike lanes. Maybe I'll take it during really bad snowstorms or when going Downtown with my wife. I haven't tried any of our BRT lines yet so I might ...

Re: 1724-1728 Nicollet

This is an outside-of-the-box idea, but, instead of a street curb cut, would it be possible to put the garage entrance directly from I-94? It sounds bonkers, but it could be an interesting amenity that would free up street front space and provide a unique amenity to those in the building. I doubt t...

I don't use studded tires, I have some 3 season Schwable tires and have used Continental Winter tires before. What he needs depends on how much biking he's going to do and how bad of weather he's willing to bike in. You might be able to just let some air out of mountain bike tires if he's not riding...

Re: 1724-1728 Nicollet

I live in this area. This is exciting given that Nicollet will be lined with this building and the sibling across the street. With these empty spaces taken I'm hoping someday buildings could be put on top of 94 on either side of Nicollet to create a seamless streetscape.

Anyone else lamenting that the Ichiban site is still vacant? It kinds kills the activity on that end of the mall. Even if the building is torn down it'll be great to have this corner activated!

Re: Former West Publishing / County Jail development site

I think it's smart how Aecom is expanding the footprint across Shepard Road to create more potential for the site. I also personally dislike Shepard Road deeply and love the idea of covering it. The buildings should perhaps connect more with the rest of Downtown St. Paul more however? I'm also skept...

Seems like office consolidation would lead to a greater density of workers on the positive side. However, you need the tenants to start with.
