Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

It really seems certain businesses were targeted: 1) Pharmacies (Over a dozen) 2) Cell Phone stores. 3) Big Box Stores both Target and Cubs. 4) From what I've heard at least a couple community owned barber shops were burned down or damaged. 5) Liquor stores. 6) Autoparts. It seems like places that w...

Re: Hi-Lake - Minnehaha Mall (Target/Cub) - Downtown Longfellow

Maybe some of the local corporations and foundations along with the city and neighborhood groups can help find a future where this area is neither abandoned, nor where those who called it home in the past are no longer able to be part of the community like they were prior.

Re: Hi-Lake - Minnehaha Mall (Target/Cub) - Downtown Longfellow

Is there a way to declare these areas some sort of special zones to get aid of some sort? Will the rebuilding be on a site by site basis or will there be something more community based? Hopefully, these neighborhoods can be rebuilt in a way that both honors and serves the community better than before.

I'm guessing many of them will be vacant until post recession. Will people buy up some of the properties betting they will be worth more in 5 years? Seems like especially Hiawatha and Lake with the LRT and etc might be a target.

Re: Housing Market/Economics - General Topics

I could see COVID-19 hurting Downtown areas with the work from home trend. I'm not sure how much that will affect metro areas however. Texas is going to be hit hard with job losses and then their budget given their tax structure. Those few metro areas reliant on hard hit industries are going to lose...

Wellington has done a lot for the community in the area and is going to take a hit. Were many of the older buildings with non-chain restaurants damaged?

Re: Southside - General Topics

What is the extent of damage on Lake St from the fires and looters? The media seems to just have vague descriptions. I lived over here a year ago and the neighborhood was coming together. I live near Plymouth Ave N now, which had fires in the late 60s and never recovered. I hope the same isn't going...

Re: Housing Market/Economics - General Topics

I'm not sure where to post this, but with other major cities getting hit harder by job losses due to reliance on specific industries (Houston & oil, Seattle and Boeing) is there a chance we'll get some of those residents if we can rebound our economy more quickly?

The photo lets you see the scale of the tower. It's also fun to contrast it to Eleven. Eleven is going up more quickly, but is a simpler building. I'm waiting for the cranes and building to start breaking into the skyline.

Re: Fullertown Flats - 4736 Grand Ave

I agree about Nextdoor, I have stayed away from it for 6 months. It's not a constructive platform. I find it ironic that they're requiring so much parking when suddenly the world has less need for cars. Between COVID, a slowing economy and aging population I wouldn't be surprised to an accelerated a...

Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory

Maybe they need to find a way to have the retail space produce revenue during the few months in MN where people won't wait outside for ice cream. Coffee and Cocoa? I don't know...Coffee and Cocoa doesn't sound like a solution to a debt problem however.

Re: Izzy's Ice Cream Factory

It appears the economics of putting a food factory in a pricey area didn't work? Would a fancy Brewery work in this space? From cold ice cream to cold beer?

Re: Unknown Development North Loop

It will be great to see this space filled, hopefully transit lines and use increases as our population ages making this all the more needed. I also hope Metro Transit keeps building connections to the Northside to provide jobs. These middle class jobs are valuable to help prevent gentrification of t...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

I don't really ride transit, use it as backup for my bicycle. I have been commuting with a less than reliable bicycle and am honestly more likely to call my wife then grab the Green line or etc. Also in the Northside the reduced service has left major crowds at the stops. Especially for the C Line w...

I drove past this last week, it's coming along pretty well. The project looks bigger from 35W, but once you're up on the street level you see that it isn't very large. I like how buildings like this give 35W more of a canyon feel. Makes the city feel bigger.

Re: 1410 Loring - 1400 Nicollet Ave. (Market BBQ redevelopment)

I was at Lakes and Legends last week and this building really changes the feel of the neighborhood. The lack of traffic also changed the feel, it was more welcoming. What's neat is that along with the Steven Square area nearby and the infill there we're getting a nice transition from single family-i...

It's more likely that there was a case of COVID-19 on the crew than that they ran out of funding. If they let the place sit for a few days and do some cleaning it should be fine I would think??

The proposed Project, which is approximately twice the height of the Ballpark and nearly twice the height allowed by the Warehouse District’s design guidelines, is not only ...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

It kinda bothers me that all the money is being spent on this, when we have places like Olson Memorial through Mpls where people don't have a super safe way to cross a highway that cuts across a residential area. I'm not saying build a bridge there, but it just seems like some of these suburbs are q...
